Caribe Promotions: Rigondeaux will fight Donaire in March or anytime, even in China

rigondeaux02By Dan Ambrose: Caribe Promotions, the co-promoters for WBA World super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (11-0, 8 KO’s), says that they are ready to match Rigondeaux against WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire in March or whatever month that Donaire wants the fight. They’re not saying no to any month; they just want the fight with Donaire.

Caribe Promotions said on their twitter “Nonito talks a lot, and talks a lot about Rigondeaux. Rigondeux asks ‘when is Nonito ready to fight? Nonito, talk, talk, talk. Nonito vs. Rigondeux in March. Nonito didn’t confirm. And now he’s talking. Rigondeaux is ready. Nonito wants to fight in China. I confirm that Rigondeaux is ready, and we are ready for China.”

Donaire hoping to get Abner Mares for April; doubts Rigondeaux fight will happen

donaire2132By Chris Williams: WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (31-1, 20 Ko’s) is hoping that a fight between him and WBC super bantamweight champion Abner Mares can take place in April. Donaire isn’t so confident about a fight between him and WBA super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux taking place if the Mares fight doesn’t happen.

Donaire said to the Manilastandardtoday.com about Rigondeaux moving his next fight date from February to March “They don’t want to do that. [March is an open date for everyone that wants to fight me.”

Donaire’s management has four potential opponents they’re looking at for his next fight

donaire5By Chris Williams: While the names Abner Mares and Guillermo Rigondeaux have been mentioned as possible opponents for WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (31-1, 20 KO’s) for his next fight in March or April of next year, it might not be either of them, according to Donaire’s manager Cameron Dunkin.

Dunkin told the Manila Bulletin that Rigondeux and Mares are only two of the possibilities that they’re looking at for Donaire’s next fight. They also have two other fighters that they’re very interested in, although those two names are being kept under wraps for some reason.

Arum says he’s interested in making Donaire-Rigondeaux next

rigondeaux234By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is still supposedly interested in matching his fighter WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (31-1, 20 KO’s) against WBA World super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (11-0, 8 KO’s) in Donaire’s next fight, according to Steven Kim.

Kim said on his twitter “Bob Arum says it’s still his plan to match NDonaire with GRigo [Rigondeaux] next. But after AMares takes care of his WBC mandatory….He will offer Golden Boy and Mares a ”substantial sum” to face Donaire, later.(Assuming, I think, Donaire beats Rigo).”

Donaire: Rigondeaux’s camp making it difficult for fight to take place

rigondeaux212By Chris Williams: WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (31-1, 20 KO’s) is perfectly clear about who he wants to fight next. He wants to fight a unification bout with WBC super bantamweight champion Abner Mares.

That fight will likely have to wait until either Mares’ promotional contract with Golden Boy Promotions runs out or unless Donaire’s promoter Top Rank president Bob Arum can somehow negotiate the fight. Donaire will have to likely settle for a fight with WBA super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (11-0, 8 KO’s), which may be a much tougher fight for Donaire than the brawling Mares would be.

Donaire: I can adapt to anything Mares or Rigondeaux does in the ring

donaire43By Chris Williams: WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (31-1, 20 KO’s) may be about to step it up a level and face either WBC super bantamweight champion Abner Mares or WBA champ Guillermo Rigondeaux. Donaire, 30, says he’ll leave it up to his management team to determine who he’ll be fighting next, but he definitely wants Mares as his next opponent.

Donaire said to eastsideboxing.com “I’m a very versatile fighter. I can fight in multiple styles. The style that I’m fighting with at this time, being smart and setting my shots up properly, anyone will fall…it doesn’t matter who it is…Mares would probably try to smother me…Rigondeaux would more than likely try to box me.”

Donaire wants Mares or Rigondeaux next

mares18By Chris Williams: WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (30-1, 19 KO’s) made easy work of Jorge Arce (61-7-2, 46 KO’s) last Saturday night in a 3rd round stoppage in Houston, Texas. While Donaire’s loyal fans felt this was an excellent opponent just as many also felt that aging veteran Toshiaki Nishioka was a great opponent for Donaire as well, but knowledgeable boxing fans want to see Donaire fight the real top guys in the division Abner Mares and Guillermo Rigondeaux.

Donaire hasn’t seemed very eager to fight Rigondeaux for some reason, but last night Donaire mentioned him as a backup plan for him if he can’t get a fight with WBC super bantamweight champion Abner Mares in his next fight in 2013.

Poonsawat fails blood test, fight with Rigondeaux off

Image: Poonsawat fails blood test, fight with Rigondeaux offBy Dan Ambrose: The Nonito Donaire – Jorge Arce card was hit with a crushing blow today with the news that the Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux fight won’t be on the card due to Poonsawat failing two blood tests. However, he didn’t test positive for performance enhancing drugs according to ESPN.

It was some kind of irregularity with his blood that caused him to fail the medical exam. This really hurts the Donaire-Arce card because there’s much too the card other than this fight and the main event, which is a terrible mismatch. The only thing about the card was going to be the Rigondeaux-Poonsawat fight, but the card doesn’t even have this fight.

Rigondeaux battles Kratingdaenggym on Saturday on Donaire-Arce card

Image: Rigondeaux battles Kratingdaenggym on Saturday on Donaire-Arce cardBy Dan Ambrose: In what’s sure to be the best fight on the card, WBA super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (11-0, 8 KO’s) battles #3 WBA Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym (48-2, 33 KO’s) on Saturday night in a fight on HBO on the undercard of the Nonito Donaire vs. Jorge Arce fight at the Toyota Center, in Houston, Texas, USA.

This is surely going to be a much better fight than the Donaire-Arce fight because that’s more like a mismatch between a top level fighter and an undersized fighter on the slide. The Rigondeaux- Poonsawat is the much better fight because Poonsawat isn’t undersized and he doesn’t’ have all the wear and tear on him that Arce has.
