Donaire threatening to pull out of Rigondeaux fight

donaire23 - CopyBy Chris Williams: WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (31-1, 20 KO’s) made a huge fuss on his twitter today because he was under the impression that his opponent WBA super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (11-0, 8 KO’s) wasn’t going to agree to the extra drug testing that Donaire wants for their April 13th unification fight at the Radio City Music Hall, in New York, New York, USA.

Donaire specifically is insisting that Rigondeaux agree to the extra testing for performance enhancing drugs by the Voluntary An-Doping Agency (VADA). Donaire is the only fighter in boxing that uses the VADA for all of his fights, according to RingTV.

Donaire will have a hard time with Rigondeaux’s speed and counter-punching ability

rigondeaux8By Chris Williams: If you wonder why it has taken WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (31-1, 20 KO’s) so long to get around to fighting unbeaten WBA World super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (11-0, 8 KO’s), you only have to look at Rigondeaux’s amazing hand speed, counter-punching ability, defensive prowess and power as four pretty good reasons why Donaire hasn’t been in a hurry to fight Rigondeaux.

Donaire and Rigondeaux will be meeting up on HBO on April 13th at the Radio City Music Hall, in New York, New York, USA. For the 30-year-old Donaire, this must be something like going to the dentist to have a mouth full of fillings put in without Novocain because Rigondeaux has the potential of creating a lot of pain, and a lot of problems for Donaire unlike no one else he’s ever faced in his 12 year pro career.

Donaire-Rigondeaux a better fight than Donaire-Mares

rigondeaux4By Dan Ambrose: WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (31-1, 20 KO’s) may not be happy that he’s having to settle for fighting a unification bout against fellow Top Rank fighter WBA World super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (11-0, 8 KO’s) on April 13th instead of against WBC super bantamweight champion Abner Mares, but it’s arguably going to be a much better fight than what we would have seen had Donaire taken the Mares fight.

Donaire wanted to fight Mares because it was the bigger money compared to Rigondeaux. Mares, a Mexican fighter, has a large Mexican fan base that backs him, and he’s accomplished a lot more than Rigondeaux because his promoters at Golden Boy Promotions were wise enough to see the value of entering him into Showtime’s bantamweight tourney.

Donaire needs to get to Rigondeaux early before he figures him out

donaire454By Chris Williams: WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire’s best chance of scoring an easy knockout win over WBA World super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (11-0, 8 KO’s) will be in the first couple of rounds when they meet up on April 13th on HBO at the Radio City Music Hall, in New York, New York, USA.

Donaire has a chance of scoring a KO over Rigondeaux before the Cuban fighter has figured him out. However, once the fight goes past the 3rd, Donaire’s chances of knocking Rigondeaux will drop to zero, and his chances of winning will likely drop as well because Rigondeaux will have figured out what to do in order to eat him.

Donaire vs. Rigondeaux on April 13th at the Radio City Music Hall in Manhattan, New York

rigondeaux1By Chris Williams: The long overdue unification bout between WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (31-1, 20 KO’s) and WBA World super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (11-0, 8 KO’s) will be taking place on April 13th at the Radio City Music Hall in Manhattan, New York.

The Hall has a seating capacity of 6000 seats, and it’s hard to imagine there being more than 2,000, possibly 3000 fans for a fight like this in New York. Arum is going to have to load the card with local fighters or else it’s doing to do poorly.

Rigondeaux signs for Donaire fight

rigondeaux6By Dan Ambrose: WBA World super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (11-0, 8 KO’s) has reportedly signed to fight WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (31-1, 20 KO’s) on April 13th at a still to be determined venue. According to RingTV, they’re only waiting for Donaire’s side of the contract to be finalized so that he can sign and then the fight will be made official.

It’s not expected that Donaire will back out or create any roadblocks, but you never know until the fight is actually signed.

Pat English, the attorney for Rigondeaux’s manager Gary Hyde, let RingTV know that Rigondeaux has signed the contract, and they’ve sent it to Top Rank promoter Bob Arum. This was an easy fight for Arum to put together because it didn’t involve him working with another promoter like Golden Boy Promotions.

Nonito Donaire vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux Likely Ends by KO

rigondeaux6By Ryan Wardle: There has been recent news of an alleged matchup between current WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire ( 31-1, 20 KO’s) and current WBA super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux ( 11-0, 8 KO’s) scheduled for April 13th. This is a fight many fans have been clamoring to see and this fight should not disappoint.

When it comes to this bout, fight fans are split into two categories: those who are happy to see Donaire against a recognized opponent, so he can gain respect as a true champion, and those who are happy Rigondeaux has a chance to expose Donaire and show the world that he is the best super bantamweight. There is validity to both sides of the argument.

Donaire vs. Rigondeaux a done deal for April 13th!

donaire332By Dan Ambrose: A unification fight between WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (31-1, 20 KO’s) and WBA World super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigonsdeaux (11-0, 8 KO’s) is a done deal for April 13th in New York, according to Gabriel Montoya of Maxboxing.com.

The fight has been agreed upon and the contracts signed. The VADA [Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency] will be testing both fighters for this bout.

The negotiations took time because Rigondeaux had some things holding him up from his side in terms of his management, but at the end of the day he decided to take the fight.

Arum: Rigondeaux has been given an offer for Donaire fight

rigondeaux4By Dan Ambrose: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum says he’s given his fighter WBA World super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux an offer to fight WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire, and he should find out the final word by the end of the week whether Rigondeaux will except the offer, which is said to be $750,000.

Arum said to hustleboss.com “That will be decided by the end of the week. We have made an offer to Rigondeaux and we’re waiting to see if he accepts.”

There’s talk that Rigondeaux is being pulled from many different sides on the contract issue, and that’s been the reason for him hesitating signing.

Donaire’s April 13th fight on HBO will be the only fight televised on the card

donaire323By Dan Ambrose: It looks like HBO will only be showing just WBO super bantamweight Nonito Donaire’s fight on April 13th, and not any of the undercard fights, according to Dan Rafael. Thus far, there’s only one fight on the undercard with WBO super featherweight champion Roman Martinez facing a still to be determined opponent. It’s too bad Martinez isn’t facing Donaire because that would be an interesting fight.

It’s unclear why HBO is only televising Donaire’s fight on that night because generally at least two fights are shown, but perhaps HBO has something else going on with their programing on that night that will be getting in the way of the undercard.
