Golovkin-Saunders deal must be done by Jan.19

Boxing: Golovkin vs LemieuxBy Dan Ambrose: The negotiations between IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin’s promoters at K2 Promotions and WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders’ promoter Frank Warren must be completed by January 19th of next week or else the International Boxing Federation will order Golovkin to face his #1 IBF mandatory challenger Tureano Johnson (19-1, 13 KOs) next, according to Dan Rafael.

As of now, the IBF will permit Golovkin to face the 26-year-old Saunders next in a unification fight provided that the deal is reached by next week on 1/19 at the latest. If the deal still isn’t reached by that time, then the IBF will order Golovkin to face the 31-year-old Tureano next.

Nacho Beristain: Golovkin could destroy the career of Canelo, even retire him

1-cotto-vs-alvarez (3)By Dan Ambrose: Nacho Beristain, the trainer for Juan Manuel Marquez and many other excellent Mexican fighters, thinks it’s a mistake for Golden Boy Promotions to be letting their fighter Saul “Canelo” Alvarez face Gennady “GGG” Golovkin in a fight this year.

Beristain doesn’t think that the 25-year-old Canelo is ready to fight someone as good as Golovkin right now, and he thinks that if the fight happens, Golovkin would destroy Canelo and possibly send him into retirement.

Will Canelo fight Golovkin at 160lbs or insist on 155lb catch-weight?

1-canelo-cotto (9)By Dan Ambrose: WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) and IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “Triple G” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) have fights that they need to get out of the way before they meet each other in a fight in the Fall, possibly in Texas at one of the large stadium.

The major question is whether Golovkin-Canelo will be fighting at the full 160lb weight for the middleweight division or at the 155lb catch-weight that Canelo has made his home for his last four fights.

Is there a difference between a Belt-Holder and 160lb champion?

saunders5533By Gerardo Granados: I not only find interesting to read the comments on many boxing articles but also find real boxing knowledge in many. It is great to hear the voice of fight fans, be it the casuals, the hard core fight fans or boxing purists, because we all share a passion for boxing.

My own opinion is only that, and I don’t expect to convince all fight fans with my written rants. But it surprised me how some readers tried to justify both Canelo Alvarez and Billy Joe Saunders avoidance of Gennady Golovkin.

If a boxer isn’t ready to become a World Champion, then he should prepare before taking a shot at the title, instead to prepare to become a World Champion while holding a major organization belt.

Mayweather sees racism in boxing

floyd77By Allan Fox: Superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr. believes that there is racism that goes in the sport of boxing nowadays with some fighters getting elevated to the top and held to a different standard than others. Mayweather believes that the media are giving IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin a free pass by not skewering him for him wanting to fight smaller guys like himself.

Golovkin recently said that he was interested in moving down to junior middleweight to fight Mayweather. The media didn’t give Golovkin a hard time about this, and Mayweather says the media went after Bernard Hopkins years ago when he was fighting smaller welterweights like Oscar De La Hoya and Felix Trinidad.

At the time, Hopkins was fighting in the middleweight division and he had a considerable size advantage over those fighters. The media gave Hopkins problems for him pooling from the 147lb division for his opponents.

Is Billy Joe Saunders overpricing him for Gennady Golovkin fight?

Boxing: Golovkin vs LemieuxBy Gerardo Granados: I am certain, that we the fight fans always want to see the best boxers fight against the best. Maybe, we all can also agree, that sometimes when a boxer loses to a great fighter, it brings him more respect and admiration from fight fans, than it does to hand pick opponents. And, perhaps we as fight fans might be disappointed to see that a potentially good fight gets spoiled due to business wise decisions made by boxers.

After the newly crowned WBO middleweight belt holder Billy Joe Saunders defeated Andy Lee, he was interviewed in his locker room. He still was excited and the adrenaline was still on his peak, so he made some interesting remarks. Saunders said and I quote when he was asked about a potential fight against Gennady 666 Golovkin, “Golovkin —- off” also said that he wasn’t ready to face the current best middleweight and finalized saying he would fight him, if he was payed a really big amount of money.

Gennady Golovkin – A different view

Boxing: Golovkin vs LemieuxBy Jermill Pennington: When you say the name Gennady Golovkin amongst boxing fans you may be surprised at how different the opinions are of him depending on who you ask. The narrative that has been set in the boxing world regarding the opinion of Golovkin is one that has a great deal of racial implications. While prepping to write this article I quickly realized that this wouldn’t be an easy task.

I found myself searching for words that would be more palatable to the masses. I then realized why no one has tackled this issue as there is no easy way of putting this topic into context without being completely transparent. An issue such as this doesn’t allow one to ride the fence. For the known boxing pundits of the world writing such an article can be a bit compromising, as this issue regarding Golovkin for lack of better term is the opinion of blacks opposed to the opinion of whites.

Saunders wants Golovkin to increase offer OR come to UK for fight

saunders5By Dan Ambrose: WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders (23-0, 12 KOs) is saying that IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) and his promoter is going to need to increase the original offer if they want him to agree to a fight against him. Saunders says either they increase the offer to him or agree to come to the UK to fight him so that he has the hometown advantage.

According to Saunders, the offer that Golovkin’s management made to him is no more than the money he would get if he were to fight a rematch against #1 WBA Chris Eubank Jr., who Saunders already beat in 2014 by a 12 round decision.

Golovkin’s promoter has LA Forum on hold for April 23

Boxing: Golovkin vs LemieuxBy Dan Ambrose: Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions already has booked the LA Forum for IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin’s next fight on April 23, according to Dan Rafael. If Golovkin does indeed fight in Los Angeles, it is likely he will sell it out if he gets a halfway decent opponent.

Last year in June, Golovkin drew over 12,000 fans at The Forum to see him defeat Willie Monroe Jr. by a sixth round knockout. If Golovkin can get someone like WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders or Tureano Johnson as an opponent, then it is for sure that he will sell the place out. The Forum seats 17,500 fans when filled and that is many fans.
