50% of Golovkin-Wade tickets already sold

golovkin44By Dan Ambrose: The tickets for the April 23 fight between IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin and Dominic Wade are literally selling like hotcakes for their fight at the Forum in Inglewood, California.

With exactly two months to go before the fight, 8000 tickets have already been sold and it seems almost academic that the fight will sellout. It’ll be televised on HBO Championship Boxing, so fans that couldn’t get tickets will still be able to see it live. If Golovkin can sellout tickets like this against an over-matched opponent like the 25-year-old Wade, then what kind of tickets sales will we be looking at in a Golovkin vs. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez fight later this year? We might be talking about a fight that could sell out the 80,000 seat AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Of course, that would require that Canelo agree to fight Golovkin, and right now it’s still not known whether the 25-year-old Canelo will ever agree to take that fight. I take that back. I do think Canelo will agree to fight Golovkin in the future, but it might not be until he gets a little older and starts showing signs of having lost some of his power and talent.

Loeffler hoping Canelo will fight Golovkin

Image: Loeffler hoping Canelo will fight GolovkinBy Dan Ambrose: Promoter Tom Loeffler is taking a wait and see approach with WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez as far as whether he’ll choose to defend his title against interim WBC challenger Gennady “GGG” Golovkin later this year as mandated by the World Boxing Council. Loeffler, who promotes Golovkin, believes that Canelo is too proud to just give up his WBC title without a fight by facing Golovkin. Loeffler doesn’t think that Canelo is the type to vacate his WBC title in order to avoid Gennady.

If Canelo chooses not to face Golovkin, then he’ll be stripped of his WBC title and Golovkin will be made the new WBC middleweight champion, according to Loeffler.

Silencing GGG fans

golovkin2By Andy Hayes: I’m reading so many articles, gossip columns, tweets and so on about Kazakhstan’s 34-0 punching machine Gennady Golovkin and what he would do in a super fight with Floyd Mayweather. ‘He would walk through him’, ‘destroy him’, ‘Golovkin would knockout Floyd’ these are just a few of the type of things you can expect to hear when this subject is hot topic of conversation.

To make one thing clear, the 49-0 one time P4P champ, has already clarified his intentions by stating that he would not be able to step up to Golovkin’s weight. However, Golovkin has confirmed he would step down should the fight ever happen. So in true Boxing fashion, we can only right now make the best of a hypothetical situation. With that being said, that’s not to say that the ‘money’ man won’t some day grace the ring one last time for a showdown with Golovkin, and if he does I am more than confident Floyd would win….comfortably.

Dominic Wade not intimidated by Gennady Golovkin

1-golovkin-wade (14)By Tim Fletcher: Unbeaten #3 IBF Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) isn’t afraid of IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs), because he sees him as just another fighter with flaws like any other person. Wade, 25, will be looking to take advantage of the flaws in the 33-year-old Golovkin’s game when the two of them meet each other on April 23 on HBO, at the Forum in Inglewood, California.

Wade never wavered at accepting the fight against Golovkin when it was offered to him by his manager Al Haymon. Wade believes he can beat Golovkin and pull off a huge upset on April 23.

Mayweather: Triple G would be easy work at 160

Floyd MayweatherBy Allan Fox: Floyd Mayweather Jr. says he would make easy work of IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “Triple G” Golovkin if he were to fight him at 160lbs.

When asked by fans recently if he would be willing to fight Golovkin, Mayweather said that he can barely make the welterweight limit of 147lbs, and he doesn’t see how he could make the upper middleweight limit of 160lbs for a fight against Golovkin. But in the next breath, Mayweather says that Golovkin is a basic fighter, nothing special, and an easy opponent for him at middleweight.

Loeffler talks Golovkin’s potential future opponents

Image: Loeffler talks Golovkin's potential future opponentsBy Tim Fletcher: Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions has five potential future opponents for his fighter IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) to fight starting with WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.

As the entire boxing world knows, Golovkin wants to unify all the middleweight titles first in fights against Canelo and WBO title holder Billy Joe Saunders. If those fights fail to happen or even if they do, Loeffler says he would like to match Golovkin against the following fighters: Daniel Jacobs, Gilberto Ramirez and Bernard Hopkins.

De La Hoya met with Jerry Jones to discuss Canelo vs. GGG for AT&T Stadium, Arlington, TX

delahoya744By Dan Ambrose: In a sign that Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya is serious about wanting to put together the Saul “Canelo” Alvarez vs. Gennady “GGG” Golovkin fight later this year for September, De La Hoya met with Jerry Jones on Thursday of this week to discuss staging the Canelo-Golovkin fight at Jones’ AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The 80,000 seat AT&T Stadium was previously called “Cowboys Stadium”, and it’s where Jones’ NFL team the Dallas Cowboys play. It’s a huge stadium, and it would be ideal for the Canelo vs. Golovkin fight.

Loeffler says Golovkin vs. Ward is possible under right circumstances

1-golovkin-wade (13)By Tim Fletcher: Gennady Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler says that a fight between Golovkin and Andre Ward is possible in the future under the right circumstances. Loeffler says that if Ward beats unbeaten Sullivan Barrera and IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev, and if Golovkin beats WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, then he sees Ward-Golovkin fight possible.

The only prove is Ward will need to jump through some major hoops to get the fight against Golovkin, and it might be too much to ask for him to beat both Barrera and Kovalev. Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) would also need to do his part to make the Ward fight happen by defeating Canelo. I don’t know that Golovkin will ever get a fight against Canelo.
