Sanchez thinks Golovkin-Wade could be short fight

1-golovkin-wade (10)By Dan Ambrose: IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez says he doesn’t know precisely what unbeaten IBF mandatory challenger Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) will be bringing to the table for their fight next month on April 23. However, if Wade comes to fight hard, then Sanchez believes the fight will be over by the 4th round at the latest.

Sanchez know what to expect from the 25-year-old Wade, because all he has to go on is his recent fight against 42-year-old Sam Soliman last June. Sanchez thinks Wade didn’t have the motivation in that fight as he does now with him fighting for multiple world titles against Golovkin.

Golovkin vs. Saunders possible for the summer

Image: Golovkin vs. Saunders possible for the summerBy Dan Ambrose: WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders (23-0, 12 KOs) could be facing IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “Triple G” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) in a fight in the summer in the UK if both fighters win their next fights. Saunders’ promoter Frank Warren is saying that a fight between Saunders and Golovkin is possible if Saunders wins his next fight against #11 WBO challenger Max Bursak (32-4-1, 15 KOs) on April 30 at the Copper Box Arena in London, UK.

Golovkin has a fight he needs to win first as well against Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) on April 23 at the Forum in Inglewood, California. Golovkin is expected to win that fight without any troubles at all.

Loeffler expects Golovkin-Wade to be a sellout

golovkin44By Dan Ambrose: Tickets for IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin’s next fight on April 23 are selling very fast. According to Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions, over 10,000 tickets have already been purchased for Golovkin’s next fight against the unbeaten Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) at the Forum in Inglewood, California.

The Forum has a seating capacity of 17,505, and Loeffler expects the fight to be a sellout like Golovkin’s last fight against David Lemieux last October at Madison Square Garden in New York.

The Golovkin-Wade fight will be televised on HBO Championship Boxing on 4/23. Along with the Golovkin vs. Wade fights, fans will be seeing WBC flyweight champion Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez (44-0, 38 KOs) battling it out against fringe contender McWilliams Arroyo, 16-2 (14KO’s) in the co-feature bout.

160 vs. 147 is a disgrace for boxing

1-CaneloKhanOlive_Hoganphotos2-olivetreeBy Rodrigo Cavazza: Since Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Amir Khan made the agreement to fight for the middleweight WBC title everybody put their voices around the sky about the mismatch and the size difference.

As we all know, Canelo is a true middleweight fighter who can make 155, so he virtually fights at super welterweight but with the 160 title in the line (since he beat Miguel Cotto last year).

Lemieux wants rematch with Golovkin

1-LemieuxWorkout4Golovkin_Hoganphotos1By Jeff Aranow: Former IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux (34-3, 31 KOs) says he wants a rematch with IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin in the near future. Lemieux was stopped by Golovkin in the 8th round last October in a fight televised on HBO pay-per-view.

Lemieux, 27, didn’t let his hands go in that fight, and it turned out to be a one-sided fight from start to finish for the Kazakhstan fighter. Lemieux says he realizes what he did wrong in that fight, and he’s been working on fixing those flaws in his game.

Sanchez doubts De La Hoya wants Canelo-Golovkin fight

delahoya433By Dan Ambrose: IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez believes that Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya is already coming up with excuses to get his fighter WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez out of the fight with Golovkin later this year.

De La Hoya recently told the media that the negotiations between Golovkin and Canelo will be very difficult. Sanchez doesn’t understand why De La Hoya would say this other than him priming the media to get them ready for him and Canelo to pull out of the negotiations and go in a different direction.

Golovkin will be out of luck if Canelo vacates WBC title

golovkin5554(Photo credit: World Boxing Council) By Chris Williams: IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin and his trainer Abel Sanchez both make it seem like their only focus is capturing the WBC middleweight title by any means necessary. By listening to them speak, you think they don’t care whether they face WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in order to win the belt. I don’t buy it.

Golovkin would have been more than happy to have gotten a golden gift fight by Floyd “Money” Mayweather before he retired. That fight would have done something for Golovkin’s career, to be sure. But we didn’t hear Golovkin saying the magic words to get the Mayweather fight.

Gomez discusses Canelo’s weight

gomez4By Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions vice president Eric Gomez says there’s a huge misconception about WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez about him being a middleweight.

Gomez says Canelo is not a middleweight even though he holds the WBC 160lb title. Further, Gomez says Canelo doesn’t really weigh-in at 174lbs on the night of his fights like some people think. The weigh-ins on the night of the fight are done with Canelo wearing clothes, so he really doesn’t weigh-in 174lbs like some people think.

Canelo vs. GGG; Is vs. Ought

Image: Canelo vs. GGG; Is vs. OughtBy Adam Godfrey: As I am sure most of us suspect, it’s possible that neither Saul “Canelo” Alvarez or Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions has any intention to allow the cinnamon haired Mexican to fight consensus middleweight King Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin at the middleweight limit of 160lb this year, despite it being mandated in the WBC rules that a catchweight cannot be enforced upon a mandatory challenger such as Golovkin.

Usually a fighter as big as Alvarez would suffer from draining down to such a light weight in contrast to his usual size, but Canelo has an uncanny ability to put on 20/25lb in a short period to significantly outweigh his opponent when it comes to laying leather on face, and to not be affected by the weight drain in the same way others would.

Wade: Nothing special about Golovkin

1-golovkin-wade (11)By Dan Ambrose: Unbeaten challenger Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) says he sees nothing in the game of IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “Triple G” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) that makes him think that he’s a special fighter.

Wade, 25, agrees with what Floyd Mayweather Jr. said recently when he commented that there are no special effects with Golovkin. Mayweather says Golovkin is straight up and down and he’s convinced that he would beat him if he came back and took the fight with the 34-year-old Kazakhstan fighter. Mayweather isn’t interested in making a comeback to face Golovkin, however.
