Golovkin: Canelo’s the same size as me; he’s a middleweight

golovkin55By Dan Ambrose: Despite WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and his trainer insisting that Canelo still needs to fight at 155lbs for his fights at middleweight, IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin thinks it makes no sense for the 25-year-old Canelo needing catch-weights for his fights in the middleweight division.

Golovkin says Canelo is the same weight as him, and he should be fighting at the full weight of 160lbs for the middleweight division. Golovkin says Canelo will come in at 155, and then balloon up to 175lbs the next day when he fights.

Loeffler: Top Rank interested in Gilberto Ramirez vs. Golovkin in 2016

ramirez95By Dan Ambrose: IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler said on Thursday in his press conference that Top Rank promotions reached out to him about matching Golovkin against their highly hyped unbeaten fighter Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (34-0, 24 KOs) this year.

Ramirez, 24, captured the WBO super middleweight title last Saturday in beating champion Arthur Abraham by a 12 round unanimous decision on the Manny Pacquiao vs. Tim Bradley 3 card on HBO PPV from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Sanchez: Wade is a challenge to Golovkin because he’s hungry

golovkin#1(Photo Credit/Michael Sterling Eaton, Neo Nostalgia) By Jim Dower: Trainer Abel Sanchez says that IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) is ready for his title defense this month in nine days from now against unbeaten Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) on April 23 on HBO Championship Boxing from the Forum in Inglewood, California.

Wade, 25, is seen as a real challenge for the recently turned 34-year-old Golovkin due to his hunger, punching power and his youth. Wade hasn’t learned how to lose yet, and he’s going to be coming into the fight with the confidence from his past 18 victories.

Golovkin vs. Wade – 10 more days!

golovkin8133By Allan Fox: Boxing fans have 10 more days before IBF/IBP/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin defends his titles against IBF challenger Dominic Wade on April 23. This is a fight that many fans are really looking forward to despite the fact that it’s seen largely as a mismatch with Golovkin facing his ritual sacrificial lamb for the slaughter.

I don’t agree with that. I think the 25-year-old Wade is going to give Golkovkin a real test in this fight. You have to remember that this is going to be Wade’s Super Bowl, his World Series, and he’s going to be totally hyped up for the fight, unlike Golovkin.

Golovkin-Wade tickets moving fast

golovkinBy Dan Ambrose: Due to the high ticket sales for this month’s fight between IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) and Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs), the officials for the Forum in Inglewood, California, will be increasing the Forum to max capacity of 17,000 for the April 23 fight.

This is not surprising because there’s been a huge amount of interest in the fight card despite the main event match between Golovkin and Wade being seen as a mismatch by most boxing fans.

The co-feature bout between WBC flyweight champion Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez (43-0, 38 KOs) and McWilliams Arroyo (14-2, 12 KOs) is helping to draw interest from fans wanting to attend the card.

The Golovkin vs. Wade card will be televised on HBO Championship Boxing on April 23. If Golovkin wins, he could be facing WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez later this year in September unless Canelo decides he doesn’t want to face the Kazakhstan fighter.

Loeffler: Gilberto Ramirez is Golovkin’s best option if no Canelo

ramirez95By Dan Ambrose: According to IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler, unbeaten WBO super middleweight champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (34-0, 24 KOs) is Golovkin’s best option for later this year if they can’t get WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez or WBO champion Billy Joe Saunders inside the ring for a unification fight.

Ramirez defeated WBO champion Arthur Abraham last Saturday night in outclassing him by winning a lopsided 12 round unanimous decision at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Ramirez vs. Abraham was televised on HBO PPV on the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao vs. Tim Bradley 3 card.

Roy Jones Jr. thinks Canelo shouldn’t fight Golovkin now

canelo555By Dan Ambrose: Boxing great Roy Jones Jr. thinks it makes a lot of sense for WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez to take the bigger money fights against guys like Manny Pacquiao than taking a dangerous fight against IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin. Jones doesn’t think the fight against Golovkin will bring in $50 million for Canelo like a fight against Pacquiao.

“I couldn’t milk the cow like Mayweather because I didn’t have the patience…same thing except there’s one x-factor…the x-factor for Canelo…I can make this $50 million and then fight Triple G,” said Jones to Fighthype.com.

Gilberto Ramirez: I am ready for anyone, even Golovkin

ramirez94By Piotr Slabonski: Undefeated #1 WBO Gilberto Ramirez (34-0, 24 KOs) fulfilled the expectations placed in him and won by a 12 round unanimous decision against hard hitting WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (44-5, 29 KOs), becoming the first Mexican champion in the history of super middleweight last Saturday night at MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Now “Zurdo” counting on even greater challenges.

– I showed him the Mexican school of boxing. He is very, very strong puncher, but he could not deal with me moving around the ring. After second part of the fight I already knew I would win. I wanted to do something historic, and I did it – said the new WBO champion after the triumph at the gala Manny Pacquiao – Tim Bradley III in Las Vegas.

Can Arum get Golovkin to fight Gilberto Ramirez?

ramirez9999By Dan Ambrose: Undefeated Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (34-0, 24 KOs) did his job last Saturday night in schooling an old, slow and small WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (44-5, 29 KOs) in defeating him by a 12 round unanimous decision to take his title in front of a large crowd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Ramirez’s promoter Bob Arum is very interested in having Ramirez fight undefeated middleweight world champion Gennady Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) if the Kazakhstan fighter is willing to move up to 168 and fight Ramirez at the full weight for the super middleweight division.

Golovkin the birthday boy today

golovkin123By Dan Ambrose: IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) is the birthday boy today in turning 34-years-old. Golovkin is in his 10th year as a pro, and he now more than ever needs to start getting the bigger names to fight him if he doesn’t want to wind up as another avoided fighter like Guillermo Rigondeaux.

2016 is going to be a very important year for GGG because he’ll find out this year if he’ll be getting a fight against WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez or not. If Golovkin can’t get that fight, then he needs to move on and just be happy with winning the WBC title after it’s stripped from the 25-year-old Canelo for failing to accept the challenge from Golovkin.
