Golovkin: “If Canelo’s not ready now, bring my belt”

gggBy Dan Ambrose: IBF/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) says he’s not going to give WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) the catch-weight handicap that he and his management have been talking about wanting in order to fight Golovkin.

There will not be a catch-weight in a fight between them, says Golovkin. If the two of them are going to fight, it’s going to have to be at the full weight of 160 for the middleweight division.

Golovkin says that Canelo needs to bring him his WBC belt and give it to him if he’s not ready to fight him later this year.

Canelo not concerned if he gets stripped of WBC title

canelo48By Jeff Aranow: It seems that Gennady Golovkin and his promoters at K2 made a mistake by letting WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez take a voluntary defense of his WBC title against Amir Khan rather than forcing a title shot against him. Golovkin was supposed to have fought for the WBC title against the previous champion Miguel Cotto last year.

Instead, Golovkin let Cotto fight Canelo in a big money fight last November. Canelo is now the WBC champion and is sounding unconcerned about potentially losing his WBC title if he elects not to fight Golovkin later this year.

Dominic Wade motivated to beat GGG

1-golovkin-wade (11)By Jeff Aranow: Undefeated challenger Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) is being overlooked by the boxing world for his title challenge this Saturday night against the unbeaten IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) for their fight at the Forum in Inglewood, California.

Wade, 25, doesn’t mind that he’s the underdog in this fight because he feels motivated to prove the many doubters wrong when he goes in and hands the hard hitting Golovkin his first loss of his pro career.

Canelo: I’m not sure when I’ll fight Golovkin

1-CaneloKhanLondonPC_Hoganphotos9By Dan Ambrose: For fans wanting to know when the Gennayd Golovkin vs. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez fight will finally take place, it’s unknown unfortunately. Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) says he’s ready to face Canelo after he takes care of his opponent Dominic Wade this Saturday night on HBO, but Canelo and his promoter Oscar De La Hoya aren’t willing to commit to the Golovkin fight for the fall.

De La Hoya says they have a rematch clause in the contract for the Khan fight, and that the Canelo-Golovkin fight will eventually take place. Canelo is pretty much singing the same tune as De La Hoya, saying that he’s not sure when the fight with GGG will take place.

Canelo’s promoter says Golovkin needs to agree to catch-weight

1-CaneloKhanLAPC_Hoganphotos16By Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions vice president Eric Gomez says they’re not sure when WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez will be facing IBF/IBO.WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin. Gomez says the fight will happen at some point, but they’re going to want it to take place at a catch-weight because they don’t see Canelo as a middleweight.

Gomez says that Golovkin should have go give up weight by agreeing to a catch-weight because Canelo will be giving up weight to fight a true middleweight.

Golovkin looking for 22nd consecutive KO this Saturday

golovkin100(Photo Credit, Chris Farina/K2 Promotions) By Dan Ambrose: IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) will be looking to get his 22nd consecutive knockout this Saturday night in his title defense against his IBF mandatory challenger Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) from the Forum in Inglewood, California.

Golovkin’s knockout string goes back to 2008. The last fighter to go the distance with Golovkin is Amar Amari, who survived an eight round bout against Golovkin in June 2008. Amari spent most of the fight covering up against the ropes.

Saunders to face Golovkin or Eubank Jr. in HUGE summer fight

saunders5By Scott Gilfoid: WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders (23-0, 12 KOs) has revealed that he has plans on a big summer fight against either Chris Eubank Jr. (22-1, 17 KOs) or Gennady Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs). Saunders, 26, isn’t saying which of the two he’ll be facing in the summer.

Either way, he could have a tough time beating either of them. The fight against Golovkin will likely only happen if the unbeaten IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion agrees to fight Saunders in the UK, which might not happen. Golovkin and his promoter Tom Loeffler will likely choose to stay out of the ring until they find out if they’ll be getting the unification fight against WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in September.

Golovkin-Wade: 6 days to go

1-golovkin-wade (11)By Allan Fox: Six day from now, IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) will be defending his titles against unbeaten Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) on April 23 on HBO Championship Boxing from the Forum in Inglewood, California.

Golovkin, 34, says he’s not overlooking the untested and little known Wade in this fight, but you can’t help but wonder whether there will be a let down on Golovkin’s part. This is not the fight that he wanted. Golovkin was hoping to be facing the likes of Saul “Canelo” Alvarez of Billy Joe Saunders in unification fights by this point, but those fighters have shown enough interest in taking a fight with him to agree to a fight.

Saunders still insisting Golovkin fight him in UK

saunders533By Dan Ambrose: WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders says he’s not going to be fighting IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin in the United States because he doesn’t trust the judging over there. Saunders doesn’t think he’ll get the win if the fight is close. Saunders feels that even if he beats Golovkin by two rounds, the judges won’t give him the victory.

Saunders does think he’s got the boxing skills to out-box the hard hitting Golovkin if the fight does every take place, but it’ll have to be in the UK. Saunders is willing to take less money to fight Golovkin in the UK, because he’s confident that he’ll be able to beat him.

Gilberto Ramirez more deserving of GGG fight than DeGale

ramirez445By Scott Gilfoid: Promoter Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions made mention this week of having his highly popular fighter Gennady “GGG” Golovkin move up to super middleweight to face the talented new WBO 168lb champion Gilberto Ramirez (34-0, 24 KOs) this year if WBC belt holder Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and/or WBO champ Billy Joe Saunders don’t step up to the plate to face Gennady.

Well, there’s already so grumbling from boxing fans wondering why Loeffler wasn’t mentioning IBF super middleweight champion James DeGale as a potential opponent for GGG to fight at 168 this year. Since no one is spelling it out why the 24-year-old Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (34-0, 24 KOs) is the target for Gennady, I’ll just say it myself.
