GGG – Kell Brook: Special K daring to dream

golovkin75

By Stephen Wilkinson: Gennady Golovkin’s (35-0, 32 KO’s) upcoming title defence against Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KO’s) has got everybody talking. Those who love the match up are talking about it, those that hate it are complaining about it. But everybody is talking about it and everybody is going to watch it. It’s not often that two undefeated, top ten pound for pound fighters meet. In London on September 10th two fighters with a combined record of 71-0 come together in a fight that nobody saw coming.

When the fight was announced it caused a genuine surprise, not just because it was presumed that GGG was going to figh Chris Eubank Jr. There had been no speculation of Brook fighting GGG. The thought had probably only fleetingly crossed the minds of the most fanciful of fight fans. Yet the fight was made, with apparent enthusiasm from both sides. So here we find ourselves, mere weeks from the fight still somewhat surprised that it is actually happening.

In a year that has seen some massive showdowns, GGG – Brook is perhaps the biggest of them all. There is something about this fight that has created a bit of magic, some kind of X factor that has captured the imagination of not just fight fans but sports fans too. It’s like Saul “Canelo” Alvarez – Amir Khan but just a bit better.

Brook: I would beat everyone on Golovkin’s record

brook111

By Dan Ambrose: IBF welterweight champion Kell “Special K” Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) has been coming up with a variety of reasons why he’ll be able to defeat unbeaten IBF/IBO/W BA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) in their fight on September 10.

The new reasons are fairly exhausting with Brook saying that he would have beaten everyone that Golovkin has ever fought before in pro career. Brook is now saying that his punching power is better than Golovkin’s, and his chin is better as well. Just how Brook could go about proving such a theory is unclear.

His record would have you believe that his punching isn’t on part with Golovkin’s, because he doesn’t have the same KO percentage. Brook has knocked out 69% of his opponents compared to Golovkin’s 91%. That right there would give you an indication that Brook doesn’t have the same kind of punching power.

Brook: I have no respect for Golovkin’s power

brook845

By Scott Gilfoid: Kell Brook says he has no respect for the punching power of IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs), and that he can’t wait to feel his power on September 10 next month. Brook is actually looking forward to getting hit by Golovkin so that he can see for himself how hard he hits. Brook feels that when he hits Golovkin back, it’ll make him less eager to want to come forward to throw his own power shots.

Brook says he’s eating good now and is well hydrated. He feels that he’s hitting harder because of the added weight that he has on his frame compared to previous training camps. Brook has little over a month to go before he faces Golovkin on September 10.

Khan now interested in fighting Brook

khan612345

By Scott Gilfoid: After ages of showing a complete lack of desire in facing unbeaten welterweight champion Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KOs), Amir Khan suddenly has had a chance of mind. He’s now saying that he’d like to fight the 30-year-old Brook. Khan doesn’t say when he wants to fight Brook, but it would likely need to take place soon before the two of them see their careers implode.

For Khan, it’s especially important for him to take he fight with Brook as soon as posisbvle because his career looks to be on the brink of going of oblivion after his knockout loss to Saul “Canelo” Alvarez on May 7. Heck, even if Khan had never taken that fight, he’d still be up against it, because he’s run out of soft jobs to fight after four years of record-padding fights against the likes of Chris Algieri, Carlos Molina, Luis Collazo and Devon Alexander.

Kell Brook: I’m at my natural weight at 160

golovkin78

(Photo Courtesy/Lawrence Lustig, Matchroom Boxing) By Scott Gilfoid: After recently saying that he’s a natural junior middleweight, Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) is now saying that he’s going to be at his natural weight at 160 when he faces unbeaten IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) in their fight next month on September 10 at the O2 Arena in London, England.

If Brook is going to be at his natural weight of 160 against Golovkin, it begs the question of why Brook has been choosing to fight smaller fighters than himself at welterweight all these years. Was it to get an advantage over them? If so, then how sporting is that.

The Business of Boxing – Lara v Golovkin

Image: The Business of Boxing – Lara v Golovkin

By David Preston: Just a few days ago, two videos were posted by thaboxingvoice.com in which WBA junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara’s manager was interviewed and was asked pointed questions. Some questions included those that would address rumors currently swirling amongst boxing enthusiasts. One such question was that if Lara was so eager to fight IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin, then why hasn’t his team made GGG an offer? The answer was one that illuminated the inner workings of the fight game.

The answer seemed obvious but I for one have never heard or seen anyone make such a comment. Lara’s manager went on to say that since GGG is contracted to fight only on HBO, an offer from Lara and Showtime would not be plausible. This makes sense given the budget for any fight is typically subsidized by the network televising the fight. Since Showtime, which Lara’s manager indicated has the budget to make the fight is not a network GGG can fight on, the idea of Lara’s team drafting an offer is moot.

golovkin77

(Photo Courtesy/Lawrence Lustig, Matchroom Boxing) By Scott Gilfoid: IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin has much respect for his next opponent welterweight Kell Brook, who he’ll be facing on September 10 next month at the O2 Arena in London, UK. The two fighters met today in London for their press conference over there.

Golovkin made it clear that he wants to give the British boxing fans a “big present” on September 10 in his fight against Brook, which he promises to be a real “drama show.” That means that Golovkin plans on knocking Brook out and making him his 23rd consecutive knockout win.

Jeff Mayweather talks Golovkin vs. Brook fight

golovkin1

(Photo Courtesy/Abel Sanchez) By Dan Ambrose: Jeff Mayweather thinks that welterweight Kell Brook could give middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) some problems with his size early in their fight on September 10. Jeff said that he met with Brook previously and he was surprised at how big he was for a welterweight.

Jeff describes Brook as being ‘huge’ when stood next to him. But with that being said, Jeff still sees Golovkin breaking the 30-year-old Brook down before stopping him in the later rounds in their fight at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

Hatton doubts Brook can beat Golovkin

hatton

(Photo credit: Amanda Westcott/SHOWTIME) By Patrick McHugh: Former two division world champion Ricky Hatton believes that welterweight Kell Brook will do well for a few rounds in his title challenge against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0 32 KOs) in their fight on September 10, but ultimately, Golovkin’s size, power and punching ability will be too much for Brook.

Hatton doesn’t blame Brook for taking the shot against Golovkin, because it’s such a big payday for him. Hatton notes that the top guys in the 147lb division didn’t want any part of fighting Brook, so he had to do something to get a big fight. The parade was passing Brook by and he was watching his career move forward without him being able to get any of the big career defining fights.
