Kell Brook pleased with response for Golovkin fight

brook8

By Scott Gilfoid: Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) feels pretty good about the fan reaction that he’s been seeing for him moving up two divisions to face unbeaten IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) on September 10. Brook notes that there is a lot of interest in the Golovkin-Brook fight, and he feels that he had to make a drastic move to get attention from the boxing world.

Brook thinks that it’s no longer a big deal just to be a world champion. The fans want to see bigger things from the fighters than merely winning world titles.

Roach: Golovkin vs. Canelo isn’t a big enough money fight right now

roach980

By Eric Baldwin: Saul Canelo Alvarez and his promoters at Golden Boy Promotions aren’t taking the fight with Gennady Golovkin right now because there’s not enough money in that fight, according to trainer Freddie Roach. While Roach isn’t connected to Canelo or Golden Boy in looking out for the Mexican fighter’s welfare, he says he undercards why Golden Boy isn’t making the fight against Golovkin.

Roach doesn’t see Golovkin as a pay-per-view fighter right now, and a fight between him and Canelo just doesn’t make enough money to justify putting the fight together. Roach points out that boxing has a business aspect to it with fighters needing to make as much money as they can to set themselves up for later life when they’re no longer competing. Roach thinks there just isn’t enough of a demand for a fight between Golovkin and Canelo to make it a big enough fight for the risk involved from Canelo’s side.

Kell Brook’s sparring partner expects him to beat Golovkin

brook3

By Scott Gilfoid: Gennady “GGG” Golovkin is coming into next months’ fight against Kell Brook as the favorite to win on September 10 and look good in doing so. However, Brook’s sparring partner Atif Sadiq thinks Golovkin is going to lose this fight due to Brook’s power and mental strength. Sadiq believes that Brook can adapt to any situation that presents itself in the ring in this fight.

Sadiq has only seen Golovkin fight at welterweight during his career against largely lesser fighters with the exception of Shawn Porter, who almost beat him in 2014. That was really close fight; although Brook’s fans think he beat Porter with ease. The reality was it was a close fight that saw the outcome come down to Brook holding Porter enough to keep him from throwing punches.

Canelo: I know I can beat Golovkin

Image: Canelo: I know I can beat Golovkin

By Dan Ambrose: Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (47-1-1, 33 KOs) took a lot of heat from the boxing world this year when he chose not to defend his WBC middleweight title against his mandatory challenger “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs). Canelo dropped the belt rather than defend it against Golovkin and potentially lose the title inside the ring by a knockout.

Canelo is now saying he knows he can beat Golovkin when the two fighters face each other. Canelo isn’t saying that’s going to happen. The only thing he’s saying is that his promoters Golden Boy made contact with Golovkin’s promoters to discuss a fight and they were unable to come up with an agreement.

Kell Brook secretive about game plan for GGG fight

golovkin-brook

By Scott Gilfoid: Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) is guarding his game plan for his September 10 fight against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) like a mother hen protecting her eggs. Brook doesn’t want to give away any secrets for fear that Team Golovkin will devise a strategy to negate the tricks that the 30-year-old Brook will be attempting to use when the two unbeaten fighters get inside the ring at the O2 Arena in London, England.

One thing that Brook may have unknowingly revealed is the fact that he’s using a lot of movement in training to keep from getting nailed so frequently by the hard hitting Golovkin. That right there pretty much tells you what Plan A will be for the British Brook.

Canelo says he has a “big surprise” for fans on September 17

Image: Canelo says he has a “big surprise” for fans on September 17

By Dan Ambrose: Mexican star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (47-1-1, 33 KOs) says he’ll be revealing a big surprise for the fans on September 17 when he gets inside the ring with WBO junior middleweight champion Liam Smith (23-0-1, 13 KOs) at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Just what that surprise is has many boxing fans guessing.

Will Canelo finally announce that he’s fighting IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin to show the fans that he’s not afraid of him, or does he merely mean that his win over Smith will be the big surprise. If that’s the case, then it won’t be much of a surprise because a lot of fans are already picking Canelo to win the fight.

Golovkin: Brook’s boxing IQ makes him a test for me

Image: Golovkin: Brook’s boxing IQ makes him a test for me

By Eric Baldwin: Kell Brook’s boxing IQ is what makes him the biggest threat to beating IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin in their fight on September 10, according to the Kazakhstan fighter. Golovkin is less worried about Brook’s size with him weigh-in 176lbs at their recent 30-day weigh-in. Golovkin feels he’ll be able to deal with Brook’s weight.

Besides Brook’s boxing IQ, Golovkin also sees the fact that the fight is taking place in the UK as being something that could make Brook a threat to beating him. The crowd will be on Brook’s side in this fight, and Golovkin will need to find a way to overcome the large pro-Brook crowd so that he can take the fight fans out of the equation before it becomes a real problem.

Spence’s promoter doubts Brook will return to 147

brook111

By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten welterweight talent Errol Spence’s promoter Lou Dibella says he doubts that Kell Brook will return to the 147lb division to defend his International Boxing Federation title after he faces IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin in their fight next month on September 10 at the O2 Arena in London, England.

Dibella says he’s hearing that Brook likely won’t try and come back down to welterweight after the Golovkin fight. However, Dibella says that if Brook does choose to come back down to defend his IBF belt, he’ll have as many problems against Spence as he will against Golovkin at 160.

No matter what happens in the 30-year-old Brook’s fight against Golovkin next month, Brook will need to make a decision quickly whether he’s going to remain at 160 or move back down to the welterweight division to defend his IBF strap. The IBF is going to need to hear Brook’s decision quickly, because they’ll be ready to order Spence to fight for the vacant IBF title against the contender that is selected by the IBF.

Gennady Golovkin: An Unbiased View

golovkin633

By James Le Blanc: It started sometime early this year. HBO announced Andre Ward had signed a 3 fight contract with stipulations that he would be moving up and facing Sergey Kovalev in late 2016. Jim Lampley said something that stuck out to me.

While the rest of the boxing world was appreciating Andre Wards move after years of inconsistent activity, Lampley’s statement was “The fans can’t wait for it, Kovalev can’t wait for it, Ward will wait for the right time, that’s who he is.” Hashtag SHADE.

Sanchez expects Golovkin to obliterate Brook

1-golovkin (2)

By Scott Gilfoid: Kell Brook is really out of his class in more ways than one in his coming fight against Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) on September 10. While Brook is moving up two entire divisions for this fight, which would make his job hard enough, he’s also facing what could be the hardest puncher in the 160lb division. That’s bad for Brook (36-0, 25 KOs), because he’s been dining on weak fodder opposition for the most part for the last 12 years of his pro career.

Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez sees Brook getting smashed to bits early on when he tries to use his new bulk to trade with Golovkin in their fight at the O2 Arena in London, England. Sanchez thinks that the pro-Brook crowd will make him brave, and he’ll want to battle Triple G in a toe-to-toe brawl to please his adoring fans.

That in turn will lead to Brook’s worse nightmares coming true with him getting smashed fairly quickly. Sanchez sees Brook going down for the final count by the 5th. He can’t see Brook lasting past round five, especially with all that weight that he’s put on lately.

Brook weighed in at 176lbs during the World Boxing Council’s mandated 30-day weight check this month. Sanchez doesn’t see that weight going anywhere. I mean, Brook will take off 16 of the pounds to get down to 160lbs for the weigh-in on September 9, but then he’ll promptly put the weight back on in a hurry and then some in the 24 hours before the fight. Heck, we might even see Brook rehydrate a little too much by going past the weight he took off from 176. Fighters do that accidentally when they go overboard with their rehydrating.
