De La Hoya: Golovkin vs. Canelo will get made in 2017

de-la-hoya7744

By Dan Ambrose: Golden boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya told the boxing media this week that he is absolutely certain that the mega-fight between Golden Boy fighter Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin will get made for 2017.

De La Hoya says he has no doubts the fight will happen. However, De La Hoya wasn’t willing to talk about the recent flat fee offer of $10 million that was made to Golovkin for the fight. De La Hoya said that he won’t discuss the negotiations on camera to the media, and that the negotiations would take place behind closed doors.

It was De La Hoya that was the one who told the media about the eight-figure offer made to Golovkin for the Canelo fight last month after Canelo’s 9th round knockout win over WBO junior middleweight champion Liam Smith on September 17. De La Hoya obviously had his reasons for telling boxing fans about the offer made to Golovkin at the time.

Golovkin vs. Jacobs expected in March 2017

By Dan Ambrose: Daniel Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) and his team have until March of 2017 to fight middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs), according to trainer Abel Sanchez. If the Jacobs fight doesn’t take place by March of next year, Golovkin will be moving on to other things.

Sanchez says they have other plans for Golovkin beyond March, and they’re not going to keep investing more time with the Jacobs fight. As it is, the Jacobs fight has taken the remainder of 2016.

Arum mentions Pacquiao vs. Golovkin as possibility

pac3366

By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum said today that if his fighter Manny Pacquiao looks good against WBO welterweight champion Jessie Vargas on November 5, they might look at middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin for Manny to fight.

Arum had to be kidding, but it’s hard to know for sure. Putting Pacquiao in with Golovkin would be one sure fire way to bring the Filipino fighter’s pay-per-view numbers back up to over 1 million buys where they used to be at.

Can Golovkin beat the top 175lb fighters?

golovkin633

By Allan Fox: Unbeaten IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) is on the verge of cleaning out the 160lb division once he beats Daniel Jacobs, Billy Joe Saunders and Saul Canelo Alvarez.

Golovkin may not need to defeat Saunders, because he’ll likely be eliminated in early 2017 once he fights the young 26-year-old Canelo Alvarez in a fight that will almost surely wind up on HBO pay-per-view in the United States.

Kovalev-Ward WON’T decide No.1 P-4-P; Golovkin still best says Roach

kovalev

By Allan Fox: Trainer Freddie Roach says the winner of the Sergey Kovalev vs. Andre Ward fight next month won’t decide who the best pound-for-pound fighter is in his view, because he still believes that middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin is the best fighter in the sport of boxing pound-for-pound.

If anything, Roach says the winner of the November 5th fight between Kovalev and Ward will bring the winner closer to where Golovkin is, but it WON’T make them better than him.

What Kovalev and Ward have going against them is that neither of them has looked good in their recent tune-up fights. Kovalev, 33, struggled to beat Isaac Chilemba last July in Russia, and Ward has looked poor in three straight fights since making his comeback. Neither fighter looks like a No.1 pound-for-pound fighter, because they’re not dominating the 175lbd vision in an effortless manner the way that Golovkin is at 160.

Should Golovkin give up on Jacobs fight?

1-golovkin (1)

By Eric Baldwin: Team Golovkin is now in it’s second month of negotiations with WBA middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs’ management team, and a fight between Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) and Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) appears to be no closer to getting done than it was when the two fighters’ promoters started the negotiations.

Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler asked for a 15-day extension with the World Boxing Association on Friday to avoid the purse bid deadline of Saturday, October 22. The negotiations will now continue even though the fight is no longer going to take place on December 10 on HBO like was originally planned.

Golovkin-Jacobs negotiations: WBA gives Loeffler 15-day extension

1-o2arena-golovkin-brook-52

By Dan Ambrose: Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions reportedly was given a 15-day extension by the World Boxing Association to continue negotiating the Gennady “GGG” Golovkin vs. Daniel Jacobs fight. The deadline for the negotiations to end is on Saturday, October 22nd.

Golovkin has already given up the December 10 fight date on HBO. The negotiations that Loeffler is doing now are to try and get the fight put together for early 2017 in February or March. It’s hard to imagine the fight not taking place by that point if the negotiations are done, because it’s in both of their interest to keep fighting often as possible.

Ward: Golovkin fight will NEVER happen!

ward1

By Allan Fox: Unbeaten light heavyweight contender Andre Ward says he’s NEVER going to fight unbeaten middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin, because he had his chance he failed to take it. Ward is fighting in the 175lb division now, and he says he’s NOT going to move back down in weight at this point. In other words, if there’s ever to be a fight between them, it would need to be at light heavyweight if GGG decided to move up two weigh classes to make it happen.

Considering that Golovkin is no bigger than some of the fighters in the 147lb division like Errol Spence Jr., it doesn’t make a lot of sense for Golovkin up two weight classes to fight someone who would have a tremendous weight advantage over him like Andre.
