Chavez Jr. wants Canelo fight

canelo75

By Dan Ambrose: Former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is targeting a fight against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in the near future. Chavez Jr. (49-2-1, 32 KOs) reportedly wants to fight Canelo at a catch-weight of 164 pounds.

The fight would likely need to take place in 2018 unless Canelo and his promoters at Golden Boy want to have it take place in September 2017. With Canelo saying he’s not a middleweight, it might look kind of odd if we see him all of a sudden fighting at 164 against Chavez Jr.

Golovkin’s promoter still working on Jacobs fight

golovkin411

By Dan Ambrose: After two months of negotiations, Tom Loeffler still doesn’t have a fight ironed out between his guy IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) and the Al Haymon managed WBA ‘regular’ middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs).

Loeffler is trying to work out a deal that makes both fighters happy. The original 75/25 mandated purse by the World Boxing Association is not agreeable on Jacobs’ side. He and his management want a bigger split. It’s up to Loeffler to see if he can find the right offer that Jacobs’ team will accept for the fight.

The target date for the Golovkin-Jacobs fight is in March or April 2017. They were supposed to have fought on December 10 on HBO Championship Boxing, but they were unable to make the deal. What’s not known is what will happen if a deal still isn’t made by April.

Sanchez: Oscar is roadblock to Canelo-Golovkin fight

delahoya5

By Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya is the roadblock keeping the mega-fight between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin from being made, according to Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez. He says that before the Canelo-Golovkin fight can get made, De La Hoya needs to be 100% certain that Canelo will win that fight. Right now, De La Hoya is not yet certain that Canelo can beat Golovkin 100%.

Sanchez feels that once De La Hoya is 100 percent certain of victory for the 26-year-old Canelo, then the fight will be made. Sanchez says Canelo is certain that he can beat Golovkin, but not De La Hoya.

Canelo vacating his WBO 154lb title, says Golovkin’s trainer

canelo299

By Dan Ambrose: Trainer Abel Sanchez believes that the cooler minds are beginning to prevail for a potential fight between middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin and Mexican star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, and he sees the fight taking place between the two stars in September next year as planned.

Sanchez says that he’s hearing that Canelo is vacating his WBO junior middleweight title now and ready to move up to 160. It’s not surprising that Canelo is vacating his WBO 154lb division. It’s not that surprising that Canelo is going to give up his WBO title soon, because if he keeps the belt, then he’ll need to fight his #1 WBO contender Demetrius Andrade. I don’t think the average boxing fan is going to care too much about news of Canelo vacating his WBO 154lb title though. The fans want to see Canelo fight Golovkin at middleweight, so it won’t matter if he vacates his 154lb title. There’s no one in that weight class for him to fight other than Miguel Cotto, and he already beat him.

Canelo vs. Golovkin fight will overshadow Mayweather-Pacquiao

1-o2arena-golovkin-brook-131

By Askhat Bapiev: How it’s possible that boring boxing match between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao can eclipse a spectacular fight between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Gennady “GGG” Golovkin in general?

Let’s imagine that second fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacman will take a place but we already know what to expect! Some guy is gonna run and some guy is gonna chase and they can do it all night long.

Brook: My name has risen after Golovkin fight

1-o2arena-golovkin-brook-58

By Scott Gilfoid: Kell Brook (36-1, 25 KOs) believes that he’s on top of the pile for a fight against Manny Pacquiao, Danny Garcia, Keith Thurman and Amir Khan. Brook was stopped in his last fight against middleweight talent Gennady “GGG” Golovkin two months ago, but he figures the loss to the Kazakhstan KO machine only enhanced his credentials for a big fight rather than hurting them.

Brook thinks that he should get a fight against Pacquiao, Khan, Garcia or Thurman regardless of him having lost his last fight. Unfortunately for Brook, we haven’t heard any of those fighters mentioning his name recently. They’re staying quiet about Brook. Instead, their promoters are talking about other fighters.

Mayweather-Pacquiao II will eclipse Canelo-Golovkin in 2017

Mayweather Sparring

By Eris Baldwin: If Floyd Mayweather Jr. chooses to return to the ring in 2017 to fight a rematch against Manny Pacquiao, their fight will likely be a lot bigger than the middleweight match-up between champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin and Mexican star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, It doesn’t matter that Mayweather and Pacquiao have lost a few steps each and are no longer the fighters they once were, they’re still a lot more recognizable names in the sport than Canelo and Golovkin.

Golden Boy is proclaiming that Canelo is the biggest pay-per-view attraction in boxing right now, and they may be right, but he’s failed to become the same type of PPV attraction that Mayweather and Pacquiao were in the height of their fame.

Kell Brook says he’ll ONLY go down to 147 for big fights

1-o2arena-golovkin-brook-51

By Scott Gilfoid: It appears that Kell Brook (36-1, 25 KOs) will not be moving back down to the welterweight division to defend his IBF 147lb title against his mandatory challenger Errol Spence Jr. (21-0, 18 KOs).

Brook is saying he only plans on moving back down to the welterweight division to fight a big name like Amir Khan, because it takes too much out of him to have to melt down in weight. Brook walks around in the low 170s in between fights. In that respect, Brook is the same size as Spence. However, Brook doesn’t like to have to put his body through the ordeal to get down to 147 the way that Spence does without complaints.

Sanchez hopes Golovkin-Jacobs happens in February

1-o2arena-golovkin-brook-31

By Dan Ambrose: If everything goes as planned, the IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) vs. WBA ‘regular’ champion Daniel Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) fight will take place by February. If not, then there will be a problem, according to Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez.

Sanchez doesn’t mind too awful much that the Golovkin-Jacobs fight didn’t take place this year on December 10, because there wasn’t enough time to promote the fight on HBO Championship Boxing. But Sanchez wants to get the Jacobs fight behind them so that they can move on and accomplish bigger and better things such as beating Golden Boy Promotions flagship fighter Saul Canelo Alvarez in September.

Golovkin should accept Golden Boy’s $10M offer for Canelo fight

1-o2arena-golovkin-brook-131

By Chris Williams: IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) and his team at K2 Promotions need to do the smart thing and accept the more than fair offer of $10 million to fight Mexican star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 Kos) for a fight next year in September 2017.

The offer is a good one, and more than what Golovkin will make fighting anyone else out there in the boxing world that is willing to fight him. This could be the last chance for Golovkin to get a big mega-fight before his career ends.
