Daniel Jacobs has power to hurt Golovkin says Mora

jacobs-mora-7

By Dan Ambrose: Sergio Mora says WBA ‘regular” 160lb champion Danny Jacobs has the punching power to hurt IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin if he can get to his chin in the first three rounds. Mora believes that Jacobs has the better overall punching power than Golovkin. However, he feels that Golovkin has the better technique, which will kick in after the 3rd round if he’s still in the fight.

Mora sees Jacobs as having a suspect chin that Golovkin could take advantage of if he can get him past the third round.

Saunders targeting Golovkin after Akavov

saunder201

By Eric Baldwin: WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders has targeted middleweight champ Gennady “GGG” Golovkin in 2017 after he takes care of business on Saturday night against Artur Akavov at the Lagoon Leisure Centre in Glasgow, Scotland. This is the first of what Saunders hopes is many more defenses of his WBO title.

We’ll soon see if he’s got what it takes to get beyond one successfully defense. A win for Saunders over Akavov is almost assured, as the Russian was picked out from near the bottom of the World Boxing Organization’s rankings. However, this will be the last easy fight for Saunders for some time, because he’s either going to need to take a unification next or face his mandatory challenger, which could be Saul Canelo Alvarez or Avtantil Khurtsidze.

WBA gives Golovkin-Jacobs 7-day deadline for negotiations

1-o2arena-golovkin-brook-31

By Eric Baldwin: The World Boxing Association is stepping in to push the never-ending negotiations between WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin and WBA ‘regular’ champion Daniel Jacobs to their conclusion by giving the fighters a 7-day deadline to wrap up their negotiations, according to RingTV.

It’s unclear whether a purse bid will be ordered at the end of the seven day deadline if the fighters haven’t reached a deal. This is good news for the boxing fans, because the negotiation have been dragging out a long, long time without the WBA stepping in to force the two sides to reach a deal.

Golovkin still in Canelo’s plans for 2017

1-o2arena-golovkin-brook-131

By Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions are still planning on matching their flagship fighter Saul Canelo Alvarez (49-1-1, 34 KOs) against unbeaten middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) for September 2017, but it will depend on a number of things.

Canelo has two fights that Golden Boy wants to put him in before the Golovkin fight next year in February and May on HBO. It’s ambitious that Golden Boy wants Canelo to fight three times in 2017, because it requires that his recently fractured right hand allows him to fight.

Will Carl Froch take Gennady Golovkin fight?

froch456667

By Scot Gilfoid: Former super middleweight champion Carl Froch has the option of making a TON of money by coming out of retirement to face unbeaten middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin. Froch’s promoter Eddie Hearn isn’t sure whether the 39-year-old Froch (33-2, 24 KOs) will come out of retirement to take the match, but he believes that he’s thinking about it.

It would be a major risk for Froch, because Golovkin can actually fight. He’s not someone that Froch could count on running out of gas or doing something stupid like fighting with his back against the ropes like George Groves and Lucian Bute did against him. Golovkin fights with intelligence, and would never back up against the ropes like a sparring partner the way Groves and Bute did against Froch.

Canelo doesn’t need Golovkin says Ishe Smith

golovkin633

By Dan Ambrose: Former junior middleweight champion Ishe Smith doesn’t believe that Mexican star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez needs to fight IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin in the near future. Smith sees the 26-year-old Canelo as having already established himself as a star in boxing. It’s Golovkin who needs Canelo and not the other way around.

Smith says that if it was up to him, he would make Golovkin jump through hoops to get a fight against him if he were in Canelo’s shoes. In other words, if Canelo wants Golovkin to fight him at 155, then he’d have to agree to that weight if he wanted to get the fight against him. Golovkin has nothing that Canelo needs for him to become a star, because he’s already accomplished that.

Andre Ward offers Golovkin fight at 175

1-111916-sergey-kovalev-vs-andre-ward-296

By Allan Fox: IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight champion Andre “SOG” Ward is willing to fight middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin, as long as he moves up to 175 for the fight to take place. Ward and Golovkin’s management talked about a potential fight between them earlier this year, but the match-up failed to take place. Ward is now fighting at light heavyweight and recently beat light heavyweight champion Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev by a controversial decision on November 19 of this month to win his three titles.

Ward and Kovalev will be fighting each other in a rematch in early 2017 to clear up the controversy. There’s no telling who will win that fight. Based off what took place last time they fought, Kovalev could wind or he might wind up losing another controversial decision.

Sanchez talks Golovkin, Canelo and Lomachenko

1-o2arena-golovkin-brook-52

By Dan Ambrose: Trainer Abel Sanchez is quite confident that his fighter IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin is going to make easy work in knocking out Golden Boy Promotions star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in September next year. Sanchez feels there’s no question in his mind that Golovkin is going to obliterate the 26-year-old Canelo when he gets him inside the ring next year.

Before the fight can happen though, Golovkin will be fighting in March possibly against Daniel Jacobs. That match has been ordered by the World Boxing Association. That doesn’t mean it will take place. Sanchez says if the fight fails to happen, then Golovkin will fight somebody else.

Canelo could beat GGG says Chavez

canelo299

By Dan Ambrose: Former three division world champion Julio Cesar Chavez says that Mexican star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez could beat middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin right now if they face each other. Chavez is just not sure when the fight will take place between them. Chavez didn’t voice frustration at Canelo (48-1-1, 34 KOs) not taking the fight against Golovkin, but his face had a look of exasperation when he made a comment about not knowing when the two will face each other.

Canelo is supposed to be fighting Golovkin in late September 2017, according to Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya. However, the last we heard from De La Hoya, Golovkin would need to agree to an eight-figure offer for the fight. It’s seen as a flat fee and not a percentage deal that Golovkin was offered.
