These are the five most anticipated boxing matches of 2017. Boxing schedule:

Gennady Golovkin vs Danny Jacobs

Gennady Golovkin may be the best boxer in the world right now, but he fails to get the attention he deserves from boxing fans. Golovkin will put his perfect 36-0 record and three middleweight titles on the line when he face Daniel Jacobs on March 18. Jacobs is coming off an impressive 7th round TKO of Sergio Mora in his last fight. While he immediately called out Gennady Golovkin after the win against Mora, Danny Jacobs may regret his actions in March.

By Jeff Aranow: Golden Boy Promotions reportedly still are only offering IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin a flat fee for a fight against Saul Canelo Alvarez, according to Dan Rafael. Golovkin’s management wants at least a 40% cut of the revenue for the fight.

Golden Boy still isn’t offering Golovkin a percentage deal though. It’s a lump fee of $15 million now. How much more money the 26-year-old Canelo will be getting above the $15 million that Golovkin would be receiving for the fight is unknown.

Spinks talks Golovkin-Jacobs & Spence-Brook

Image: Spinks talks Golovkin-Jacobs & Spence-Brook

By Eric Baldwin: Former two division world champion Cory Spinks says WBA ‘regular’ champion Danny Jacobs has no chance of beating IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin for their fight on March 18 at Madison Square Garden in New York. Spinks thinks Golovkin is just too strong for him right now for him to be able to survive.

Spinks says that for Jacobs to have any chance at all of beating Golovkin, he’ll need to fight the perfect fight, make no mistakes, and he’ll need to be able to take a lot of heavy shots. Spinks says that Jacobs is going to get hit by Golovkin.

By Dan Ambrose: WBA World middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) has analyzed IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin’s game and he’s seen some defensive holes that he’s going to expose on March 18 in their battle on HBO PPV at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Jacobs has been studying the 34-year-old Golovkin for some time, and he sees all that he needs to see of the many build in limitations in his game to beat him. Besides the defensive problems in GGG’s game, Jacobs notices that he’s slow of hand. Jacobs sees his own hand speed, power and defensive skills to be ultimately too much for GGG when he gets him inside the ring in this important fight.

Sanchez expects Jacobs to fold when Golovkin hits him

Image: Sanchez expects Jacobs to fold when Golovkin hits him

By Dan Ambrose: Gennady “GGG” Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez doesn’t think there is anyone in the middleweight division that can beat Golovkin right now and that includes WBA ‘regular 160lb champion Daniel Jacobs. Sanchez rates Jacobs as a good fighter, who only has one loss on his resume from his defeat to Dmitry Pirog six years ago. But he doesn’t see the 29-year-old Jacobs as being able to go the distance with Golovkin when the two fighters face each other on March 18 on HBO PPV at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Sanchez as seen all the wins that Jacobs has compiled since his loss to Pirog in 2010, but he sees those guys as being in a different class as Golovkin. Jacobs’ wins over those fighters proved that he can beat them, but they mean nothing for what he’s about to deal with when he gets inside the ring with GGG.

By Dan Ambrose: IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) has just revealed the news that he’ll be facing WBA World middleweight champion Danny “Miracle Man” Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) on March 18 on HBO pay-per-view from Madison Square Garden in New York.

This is the fight that a lot of the boxing fans have been waiting for. While it’s not as big as Golovkin vs. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, it’s unquestionably the second biggest fight available to Triple G in the middleweight division.

By Chris Williams: WBA World middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) and IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) are expected to have an agreement reached in their negotiations by this weekend. The Golovkin-Jacobs fight is expected to take place on March 18 on HBO PPV at Madison Square Garden in New York if the negotiations get done before the purse bid.

That’s a deal that would obviously please Golovkin’s management, because it would be on HBO, and that’s who Golovkin is under contact with.

Loeffler expects Golovkin-Jacobs to be finalized this weekend

Image: Loeffler expects Golovkin-Jacobs to be finalized this weekend

By Dan Ambrose: Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions is highly optimistic that he can finalize a deal by this weekend between WBA ‘regular’ middleweight champion Danny Jacobs’ manager Al Haymon and his fighter IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin for a fight in March on HBO. Loffler thinks he can get the deal made before Monday’s scheduled purse bid by the World Boxing Association. However, if the fight doesn’t get made, Loeffler is prepared to go to the purse bid and win it on Monday.

Loeffler is hoping that he work out a deal with Haymon to avoid the purse bid, because it would be more beneficial for the two management teams to finalize a deal to avert the bid. If the Golovkin vs. Jacobs fight goes to a purse bid, Golovkin would be entitled to a 75-25 purse split. That’s a great financial deal for Golovkin, but not a good one for the 29-year-old Jacobs.

Golden Boy planning Canelo vs. Chavez Jr. for early 2017

Image: Golden Boy planning Canelo vs. Chavez Jr. for early 2017

By Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions are working on putting together a clash between Mexican fighters Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs) and former WBC 160lb champ Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (50-2-1, 32 KOs) for the first half of 2017. Golden Boy Promotions president Eric Gomez says they’re in talks with Chavez Jr. for the fight against Canelo. He’s pretty excited about the possibility of making the Canelo-Chavez Jr. fight, because he believed it would be a huge one in the boxing world. Gomez says that Chavez Jr. is interested in the Canelo fight. It would be at a catchweight of possibly 163 or 164, a weight that Chavez Jr. would likely struggle to make.

Canelo-Chavez Jr. wouldn’t do much to build up a fight between Canelo and Golovkin later in the year. Chavez Jr. looks worse now than James Kirkland. Golovkin will be doing his part to make a fight against Canelo big by facing Daniel Jacobs, but Canelo would be taking the easy path once again by taking on Chavez Jr.

Golovkin-Jacobs fight possible for Showtime

Image: Golovkin-Jacobs fight possible for Showtime

By Dan Ambrose: If middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin’s promoters at K2 lose the purse bid with WBA ‘regular’ middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs’ manager Al Haymon this Monday in the scheduled WBA purse bid, there’s a possibility that he could put the fight on Showtime, according to RingTV. That could mean the fight would be on regular Showtime and not on pay-per-view. Golovkin is under contract with HBO Boxing, and it’s possible that they might not be agree to let him fight on Showtime unless he’s got language in his contract that would allow for him to fight on another network.

There’s talk that Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler could negotiate the fight with Haymon before Monday to avert the purse bid. If that is what happens, then there’s a possibility the fight would take place on HBO.
