Is Mayweather’s prediction of Canelo easily beating GGG accurate?

Image: Is Mayweather’s prediction of Canelo easily beating GGG accurate?

By Dan Ambrose: Floyd Mayweather Jr. recently made a bold prediction in picking Mexican star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs) to beat IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs). Mayweather not only believes that Canelo will beat Golovkin, but he’ll do it easily by knocking him out. Mayweather further said that Canelo should do what he wants.

Some boxing fans took this as code from Mayweather to mean that he should avoid taking the Golovkin fight. You can argue that Canelo has doing just that, as he still hasn’t faced Golovkin after two years. Golovkin has been interested in facing Canelo for ages now, and the fight still hasn’t happened.

Froch: Golovkin should go to 175 for Andre Ward

Image: Froch: Golovkin should go to 175 for Andre Ward

By Scott Gilfoid: Carl Froch isn’t letting go of the idea of him wanting middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) to move up in weight to fight IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight champion Andre “SOG” Ward (31-0, 15 KOs) in 2017. In the past, Froch spoke of wanting Golovkin to move up to 168 to fight Ward, which meant Golovkin would move up one weight class to fight him at super middleweight.

Froch now wants Golovkin to move up TWO weight classes to face him at 175. As such, the much smaller Golovkin would be coming up in weight 15 pounds to face a guy with a much larger frame than him in Ward.

Khan: Canelo beats Triple G and Chavez Jr.

Image: Khan: Canelo beats Triple G and Chavez Jr.

By Dan Ambrose: Amir Khan is officially endorsing Mexican star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs) in saying that he’ll not only beat former WBC 160lb champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (50-2-1, 32 KOs) in their proposed fight on May 6, but he’ll also beat IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) as well.

Canelo and Golovkin, 34, could be fighting each other in September 2017 if the fight can get negotiated. Some boxing fans have serious reservations about the fight being made, as they think Canelo’s promoters at Golden Boy Promotions are already working behind the scenes to make sure the Canelo-Golovkin fight doesn’t get made in 2017 by offering Golovkin only lump fee offers rather than a well-deserved proportion of the revenue.

Will Golden Boy push Canelo-Golovkin to 2018?

Image: Will Golden Boy push Canelo-Golovkin to 2018?

By Dan Ambrose: In choosing offer middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin a mere $15 million for a that could make well over $100 million against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs) in September 2017, Golden Boy Promotions could be looking to kick the fight between these two fighters to 2018 before potentially making a serious attempt at putting the fight together. Think about it; Golden Boy is only offering Golovkin a flat fee rather than a percentage deal, which is the norm for when two stars are facing each other. It’s always nice to make predictions as one year ends and another starts up. My prediction is Golden Boy will continue to push the Canelo vs. Golovkin fight further into the future until Golovkin is too old to be a threat to Canelo.

The offer from Golden Boy to Golovkin can’t be interpreted in a serious way, because it can’t be a serious offer unless they see weakness in Golovkin’s promotional team when it comes to their ability to negotiate a fight.

Jacobs using 3 Eastern European sparring partners for GGG preparation

Image: Jacobs using 3 Eastern European sparring partners for GGG preparation

By Allan Fox: WBA World middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) has three very good Eastern European sparring partners in camp to help him prepare for his March 18 fight against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) on HBO PPV. The three middleweight sparring partners are as follows: Avtandil Khurtsidze (32-2-2, 21 KOs), Sergiy Derevyanchenko (9-0, 7 KOs), and Ievgen Khytrov (14-0, 12 KOs).

They’re from Eastern Europe, but all very different from Golovkin. The styles, power and more importantly, the talent is different between them and GGG. It’s unclear how much the 29-year-old Jacobs can improve in having these guys in camp.

Is Jacobs a step up for Golovkin in competition?

Image: Is Jacobs a step up for Golovkin in competition?

By Allan Fox: Much has been said about WBA World middleweight champion Daniel “Miracle Man” Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) being a huge step up in competition for the 34-year-old IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) for their fight on March 18, but is he really a step up or perhaps a step down?

Jacobs can definitely punch, and he has a knockout percentage of 88. However, Jacobs has not fought the best of opposition during his career, and you can’t really tell how good he is based on his many knockouts. All you can say is he beat Peter Quillin and lost to Dmitry Pirog.

Golovkin vs. Brook: Can Kell comeback from this loss?

Image: Golovkin vs. Brook: Can Kell comeback from this loss?

By Scott Gilfoid: Kell Brook (36-1, 25 KOs) suffered a bad eye injury in his 5th round TKO loss to middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) on September 10 in their fight on Sky Box Office PPV and HBO. Brook was offered the fight by his promoter Eddie Hearn after Chris Eubank Jr. wouldn’t bite on the deal.

Agreeing to the deal gave the 30-year-old Brook his biggest payday of his career, as well making him known to many casual boxing fans that had never heard of him before. However, Brook’s right eye socket was broken by a left hook from GGG early in the 1st round, and the injury eventually caused the fight to be halted by his trainer Dominic Ingle in round 5.

Canelo-Chavez Jr. fight hurts potential GGG match

Image: Canelo-Chavez Jr. fight hurts potential GGG match

By Dan Ambrose: It’s generally agreed that the fight the boxing world wants to see is Saul Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady “GGG” Golovkin in September 2017. That’s the fight that the fans have been talking about for the past year, and it’s the number 1 fight in all of the sport. However, with Canelo and his promoters at Golden Boy looking to take a detour by fighting the still popular Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on May 6, they could be ruining the chances for a much bigger fight between Canelo and GGG next year.

The reason why is simple. Canelo vs. Chavez Jr. is going to make truckloads of money for both fighters with it likely pulling in more than 1 million buys on HBO pay-per-view, and potentially selling out the 80,000 seat AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Jacobs won’t last long against Golovkin if he slugs

Image: Jacobs won’t last long against Golovkin if he slugs

By Allan Fox: After six years of facing largely soft opposition, Daniel Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) has been ordered by the World Boxing Association to face IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs).

The two fighters’ management has negotiated the fight, and it’s now signed, sealed and delivered for March 18 at Madison Square Garden in New York. Jacobs is going to crumble early in this fight in the first two rounds if he gets hit with anything from Golovkin in my opinion.

Plan A for Canelo in 2017: Chavez Jr, Golovkin and Cotto

Image: Plan A for Canelo in 2017: Chavez Jr, Golovkin and Cotto

By Dan Ambrose: Former two division world champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs) reportedly has two plans for opponents in 2017. His plan A is to fight three times again the following fighters: Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., Gennady Golovkin and Miguel Cotto. The second plan is to switch out Chavez Jr. for WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders for May 6, and then stick with Golovkin and Cotto for his second and third fights of 2017.

Chavez Jr. has been given a 1-week deadline to agree to the $6 million offer given to him by Canelo’s promoters at Golden Boy Promotions. This is a guaranteed offer. Chavez Jr. would also receive a percentage of the pay-per-view money from HBO. Chavez Jr. could wind up with as much as $10 million if the fight brings in over 1 million buys like sources believe it will do.
