DeGale shows class against Zuniga; Eubank Jr. defeats Fedotovs
By Gari Jones: Channel Five is turning into a great place for some weekend boxing. For those like myself who appreciate terrestrial TV picking up boxing, rather than a BOX OFFICE or subscription package limiting the numbers who can view. Channel Five gave a good nights boxing action.
Up first was Eubank Jr now W9, KO 4, L0, DO against journeymen Olegs Fedotovs W 15, KO 11, L10, D0. This fight was Eubank’s second in one week, it clearly worked to his advantage fighting so soon after defeating veteran Bradley Pryce W33, KO18, L12, D0.
Weights: DeGale 167.5, Zuniga 164.5
By Scott Gilfoid: EBU super middleweight champion James DeGale (13-1, 9 KO’s) made weight today for his bout against the tough veteran Fulgencio Zuniga (25-6-1, 22 KO’s) on Saturday night for the vacant WBC Silver super middleweight title at the Bonus Arena, Hull, Yorkshire, United Kingdom.
Groves: I took away DeGale’s confidence
By Scott Gilfoid: Commonwealth super middleweight champion George Groves figures that his win over James DeGale (13-1, 9 KO’s) took something away from him in terms of his confidence because he hasn’t looked like the same fighter since then. DeGale has fight coming up this Saturday night against Fulgencio Zuniga (25-6-1, 22 KO’s) for the vacant WBC Silver super middleweight title at the Bonus Arena, Hull, Yorkshire, United Kingdom.
Groves said to thesun.co.uk “Since fighting me he [DeGale] hasn’t impressed much. He’s confidence fighter and I took away all of his confidence. He also hasn’t been fighting the right opponents.”
DeGale to try and use movement against Zuniga
By Scott Gilfoid: James DeGale (13-1, 9 KO’s) will be attempting to be a more mobile fighter this Saturday night when he faces Fulgencio Zuniga (25-6-1, 22 KO’s) at the Bonus Arena, Hull, Yorkshire, United Kingdom. DeGale and Zuniga will be scrapping for the vacant WBC Silver super middleweight strap, and it’s really a toss up for which fighter comes out on top in this one.
I would say DeGale, but he’s already been exposed in past fights and he doesn’t have the power or the mobility to walk though a guy like Zuniga. This guy can punch and he only loses to fighters that are mobile or blessed with major power like Kelly Pavlik, Thomas Oosthuizen or Lucian Bute. Those guys are in a different league than DeGale.
DeGale faces Zuniga for vacant WBC 168 lb Silver title on Saturday
By Scott Gilfoid: 26-year-old James DeGale (13-1, 9 KO’s) will be taking a break from defending his EBU super middleweight title to instead go after the vacant WBC Silver 168 pound title against former world title challenger Fulgencio Zuniga (25-6-1, 22 KO’s) this Saturday night at the Bonus Arena, Hull, Yorkshire, UK.
DeGale vs. Zuniga possible for December 8th
By Scott Gilfoid: EBU super middleweight champion James DeGale (13-1, 9 KO’s) could be facing light heavyweight Fulgencio Zuniga (25-6-1, 22 KO’s) in a non-title stay busy fight on December 8th, according to Corey Erdman’s twitter. This will be a fight, if gets made, that will take place at the Bonus Arena, Hull, Yorkshire, United Kingdom.
DeGale, 26, has a title defense the next month on January 26th against Mouhamed Ali Ndiaye, so it’s pretty obvious that they’re not looking for anyone too tough to put in with DeGale because that would potentially wreck his fight with Ndiaye. However, even a guy like the 35-year-old Zuniga might be too hard of a fight for DeGale if he intends on sticking with his plans to fight in January.
Oosthuizen in tough fight against Zuniga on Saturday
By Dan Ambrose: IBO super middleweight champion Thomas Oosthuizen (20-0-1, 13 KO’s) faces a bigger hitter in Fulgencio Zuniga (25-5-1, 22 KO’s) on Saturday night at the Emperor’s Palace, Kempton Park, Gauteng, South Africa. The 6’4″ Oosthuizen needs a win in this fight against the 35-year-old Zuniga to keep moving forward towards a future world title shot against one of the champions.
Rodney Berman, the promoter for the 24-year-old Oosthuizen, told Supersport.com “Tommy can’t afford to muck about. This guy can crack and if Tommy isn’t at his best he’ll end up on the canvas.”
Oosthuizen fights Zuniga on Saturday
By Dan Ambrose: This Saturday night IBO super middleweight champion Thomas Oosthuizen (20-0, 13 KO’s) will be defending his title against Fulgencio Zuniga (25-5-1, 22 KO’s) at the Emperor’s Palace, Kempton Park, Gauteng, South Africa. This should be a tough but winnable fight for the 24-year-old Oosthuizen, who if he wins will find himself fighting Gennady Golovkin on HBO at Madison Square Garden.
That’s a fight that will be real test for Oosthuizen to show whether he’s got the talent to become one of the better fighters. Golovkin will be moving up in weight to take the fight, but he’s got crushing power that likely will carry up to 168 and give Oosthuizen problems if he can’t avoid Golovkin’s big shots.
