By Dan Ambrose: Freddie Roach, the trainer for WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr (46-0-1, 32 KO’s), thinks that his opponent 37-year-old Sergio Martinez (49-2-2, 28 KO’s) is afraid of Chavez Jr. as they approach their fight on September 15th in Las Vegas, Nevada. Roach believes that Martinez’s constant trash talking is because of fear.

Khan still hasn’t dumped Roach; it’s possible he will keep him
By Chris Williams: It was thought that trainer Freddie Roach would be given the swift boot by former IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan after his latest loss, a 4th round TKO defeat to WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia last month. Khan had said that he needed a trainer that would be there for him on a full time basis rather than the current situation where Khan is sharing Roach with numerous other fighters.
Freddie Roach vs. Emanuel Steward
Khan’s chances of getting Roach full time is slim to none
Khan still not saying if he’ll be dumping Roach
By William Mackay: Despite having said last week that he’d be making a decision in a week about whether to stay with his current trainer Freddie Roach or dump him and go with another big named opponent that can spend more time with him working on his many flaws in his game, most notably with his defensive lapses.
Khan may boot Roach within the week; Steward could be the replacement
By William Mackay: It’s looking like Amir Khan may give trainer Freddie Roach the royal boot within the week and go with another trainer to try and turn what’s left of his career around. It’s high time, isn’t it? Khan needs to pull the trigger on Roach and look for a trainer that specializes in working with fighters with weak chins like American Emanuel Steward.
Khan might boot Roach; doesn’t want to share training time with him and his other fighters
By William Mackay: Amir Khan (26-3, 18 KO’s) is dropping some big hints that his famous trainer Freddie Roach may be on the way out after Khan’s defeat. Khan doesn’t want to share Roach with other fighters, and wants someone that’s there for him whenever he needs him. Khan also needs a trainer that specializes more on teaching defense which he clearly needs boatloads of help with. Roach isn’t noted for being a great defensive trainer.
Roach: Khan will out-box Garcia in a rematch; he should fight him next
Khan is too high maintenance for Roach
By Chris Williams: Some fighters are simply too needy and too high maintenance to be worth the trouble of having them around in the first place. I think Amir Khan (26-3, 18 KO’s) might be one of those types of fighters for trainer Freddie Roach. Having a needy fighter like Khan around is a negative because when he does fail, and you know he’s going to, the trainer has the spotlight put on him for somehow failing him. The trainer is put in the hot seat all of a sudden, and you get people questioning whether the trainer knows what he’s doing.
Khan: I’m happy with Roach
By William Mackay: It doesn’t look as if Amir Khan is going to make any major changes with his training team by pulling the trigger to dump trainer Freddie Roach despite the two of them no longer finding success in their working relationship. Khan has lost his last two fights under Roach’s helm, and you would assume that some drastic changes are needed to save the Khan ship from sinking into the abyss.
