Roach still unhappy with how Chavez Jr. ran the training camp

Image: Roach still unhappy with how Chavez Jr. ran the training campBy Dan Ambrose: Trainer Freddie Roach still can’t seem to forget about how his fighter former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. controlled his recent training camp with Roach, insisting on some workouts being in the living room of his rented home, skipping training sessions and having training done late at night. Roach doesn’t understand why Chavez Jr. did this for the most important fight of his career against Sergio Martinez and not for his previous fights against weaker opposition.

In an interview at Maxboxing.com, Roach said “Basically, we were powerless. [Chavez Jr.] wanted to be the boss and we [I] kinda let the fighter get away with it. So it’s a little bit our [my] fault for letting him get away with it.”

Image: Roach doubtful that Khan's new trainer will be able to calm him downBy William Mackay: Trainer Freddie Roach questions whether Amir Khan’s new trainer will be able to calm him down and keep him from getting in dangerous exchanges with his opponents. Roach feels that Khan might resist fighting in a more cautious manner and will continue to slug it out with his opponents when he gets hit.

Roach said to RingTV.com “If they can calm him down and get him not to exchange so much and get him to box a little bit more, being a great athlete, he’ll do much better. But I don’t know if anyone can change that though.”

Will Pacquiao reverse the fortunes of Freddie Roach?

Image: Will Pacquiao reverse the fortunes of Freddie Roach?By John F. McKenna (McJack): Filipino icon Manny Pacquiao (54-4-2, 38 KO’s) is determined to return to the form which enabled him to win world titles in eight different weight divisions when he tangles with Mexican legend WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez (54-6-1, 39 KO’s) on December 8 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas.

Nothing would please Pacquiao’s trainer, five time trainer of the year Freddie Roach who has seen his fortunes turn around in the last year. Last November Pacquiao won a hotly disputed decision over Marquez in a fight even many of Manny’s ardent fans thought he lost. Then in December, Roach’s other star pupil Amir Khan (26-3, 18 KO’s) lost a controversial decision to Lamont Peterson (30-1-1, 15 KO’s). Khan followed up that loss with a devastating TKO loss to Danny Garcia (24-0, 15 KO’s).

Why things will be different this time compared to the other three fights, Roach doesn’t say. He just seems to feel that the judges will finally give it to Marquez this time, perhaps to make up for the three previous fights?

However, Pacquiao will be sticking with Roach despite his recent loss to Tim Bradley.

Pacquiao said to Espn “Yes, I am happy working with Freddie. He is a good guy and nice trainer. I am successful working with him.”
