Guerrero wanted $4 mil, but Mayweather only paying $2.5 mil, says Roach

guerrero123By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach has his opinions why WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. has decided to go with IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander instead of Robert Guerrero, the fighter that most boxing fans thought Mayweather was set to fight until recently.

Roach said to ibftimes.co.uk when asked why Mayweather was leaning in the direction of Alexander now, “He [Guerrero] wanted $4million and Floyd said he would get $2.5m but he didn’t want to take it. He didn’t want it so Floyd moved on to the next person and he still might move onto someone else.”

Roach: Khan got knocked out and I get blamed for it

khan52By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan’s former trainer Freddie Roach doesn’t like some of the comments that Amir Khan made in giving his reasons why he needed to dump Roach after Khan’s 4th round knockout loss to WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia last year in July.

Roach said to Fighthubtv.com “He [Khan] got hit with a left hook and I get blamed for it. But that’s the way it goes.”

After dumping Roach, Khan picked Virgil Hunter to be his replacement. Last December, Khan won his first fight with Hunter as his trainer, beating unranked lightweight Carlos Molina by a 10th round stoppage.

Freddie Roach: Trains to Entertain

roach2By Dean Gsell: Boxing survives for a few reasons, currently money comes in at number, and one is funded by human thirst to see a good fight. True fans don’t just see good fights, they feel them. They’re proud of their winners and cringe when they’re going down. Although winning is the name of the game, it does not always entertain.

Gatti fans would have payed to see him fight an eighteen wheeler at 80 mph knowing he would have went down swinging, win, lose or draw. Seeing a guy countering out of a turtle shell may win on points, but wont bring the crowd out of their seats. I recently went through my DVR deleting hours of matches and skimming over the ones to keep. Even in fast forward you can see the action packed fights.

Roach has a new reason why Pacquiao-Mayweather fight can’t happen

roach45By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach has added a new reason why he doubts a mega fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. can never happen and that’s because he feels that Mayweather will never agree to fight Pacquiao outside of the United States.

Pacquiao reportedly doesn’t want to fight in the U.S because the government takes close to 40% of his earnings through taxes, so the only way a fight between him and Mayweather could happen is if Mayweather agreed to fight Manny in a country like Mexico or one of the Asian countries. Roach doesn’t see that happening.

Roach told Sport360 “The one thing about Mayweather is he will never fight anywhere but Las Vegas. He made that clear in the past when we were in talks. So I don’t think a fight between him and Manny could ever happen anywhere but the States.”

Roach: I’m still in the picture with Chavez Jr

roach1By Dan Ambrose: It was thought recently that trainer Freddie Roach was going to be dumped by former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (46-1-1, 32 KO’s) following his 12 round unanimous decision loss to Sergio Martinez last September. Roach is saying that he’s still in going to be training Chavez Jr. as far as he knows.

Speaking with fighthubtv.com, Roach said “I spoke to his [Chavez Jr] manager Billy Keane, and Billy says that last time he spoke to him, I’m still in the picture…I told him, ‘I’ll train you, but the first day you miss, if you miss a day of training, I’m going home.’”

Roach probably should have made that move last year when he was training Chavez Jr. for the Martinez fight given that Chavez Jr. was missing training sessions left and right and doing much of the training at his home.

Roach: Pacquiao received $10 million offer for April fight in Dubai

pac4By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach says he received a tempting offer of $10 million to stage Manny Pacquiao’s next fight in Dubai in April. Roach says he told the person to contact Top Rank promoter Bob Arum to see if he was interested in staging Pacquiao’s next fight over there.

Roach said to Sport360 “I got a phone call from someone in Dubai on Monday, who offered $10 million for Manny to fight there in April, but I told him to call Bob Arum because I don’t make his [Pacquiao] fights; I just get him ready. A place like Dubai for a fight could be great. It’s a great location for pay per view TV networks.”

It looks Pacquiao has his mind made up that he really wants to fight in April, and if this offer is legit, and who knows if it is, that would be an offer that Arum might find too good to turn down. Roach doesn’t want Pacquiao to fight until September in order for Pacquiao to recover from his bad knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez last December.

Roach: Chavez Jr. is a waste of talent

chavez923By Allan Fox: Trainer Freddie Roach thinks former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (46-1-1, 32 KO’s) is a huge waste of talent for his lack of dedication for the sport. Roach was especially peeved recently about Chavez Jr’s method of going about getting ready for his big fight with Sergio Martinez last September.

Roach said Chavez Jr. only trained with him a grand total of 5 times during the entire training camp. It’s hard to understand what Chavez Jr. was doing during the remainder of the camp other than training at home.

Roach states that Chavez Jr. suddenly changed their working relationship after five successful fights together. Roach says that Chavez Jr. decided he wanted to be the boss for the training for the Martinez fight and that made things difficult.

Roach: Pacquiao is fighting better now than he has in a long time; we don’t need a tune-up

roach324By Chris Williams: Freddie Roach doesn’t want his fighter Manny Pacquiao to take a tune-up fight in April against whoever Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum digs up for him to fight. Roach thinks Pacquiao is beyond the need of tune-ups at this point in his career, and in fact he thinks he’s fighting better now than he has in ages.

Roach said to fighthub.tv “They’re talking about a fight in April in Macau right now, a tune-up with Manny. I really don’t want a tune-up right now. I don’t think a fighter like Pacquiao needs a tune-up fight. Manny was fighting the best fight I’ve seen him fight in a long time. We got caught in that fight but I still think it was a great performance.”

Roach: Pacquiao-Marquez 5 will break PPV records

roach34By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach sees the fifth fight between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez as breaking the six-year pay per view mark for the highest PPV buys ever in boxing in a 2007 fight between Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr. That fight drew an incredible 2.4 million buys.

However, it had two huge PPV stars facing each other, so it was a lot easier for that fight to do huge numbers compared to the fifth fight between Manny and Marquez.

Roach said to fighthub.tv.com “I think this will be the biggest seller ever in boxing.”

Freddie Roach’s terrible year

roach45By James Le Blanc IV: I’ve read countless articles making various suggestions for Manny Pacquiao and what his next move should be. Should he retire, or fight Marquez right away, or have a tune up fight before having a 5th fight with Marquez. What I have read very little about is the decline of trainer Freddie Roach and the terrible year he had in the year of 2012. Let’s reflect for a moment on the 2012 year of the Hall of Fame trainer who has won multiple Trainer of the Year awards by ESPN and the Boxing Writers Association of America.

Manny Pacquiao UD Loss to Timothy Bradley June 9th 2012-Title bout
Amir Khan KO Loss to Danny Garcia July 15th 2012-Title bout
Julio Chavez UD Loss to Sergio Martinez September 15th 2012-Title bout
