Is Mayweather Next For the Hatton-Pacquiao Winner?

mayweather456238452By Manuel Perez: With the Manny Pacquiao vs. Ricky Hatton looking as if it’s back on course (at least for now) for May 2nd, the big question is who will the winner choose to fight in the next fight? For Hatton, it’s an easy answer. He wants to gain revenge for his 10th round TKO loss to Mayweather in December 2007, and he’d likely go after him immediately if Ricky ends up defeating Manny on May 2nd. In Pacquiao’s case, the answer’s not that simple.

Hatton-Pacquiao Fight Off: Ricky Looking At De La Hoya & Mayweather

hatton42335By Jim Dower: In news that will probably be upsetting to Manny Pacquiao, Ricky Hatton has opted to move on to another fight instead of settling for less than a 50-50 split with Manny for their previously talked about fight on May 2nd. The apparently reached a sticking point in their negotiations after Pacquiao asked for a 60-40 purse split and Hatton wasn’t willing to agree to giving Manny the larger share.

Mayweather vs. The Welterweight Division

mayweather5765545By Daniel Poland: Everybody in boxing is now talking about the possible ring return of Floyd Mayweather Jr., who hasn’t fought since his 10th round knockout of Ricky Hatton in December 2007. It has taken a year without Mayweather for the rumors to start, and I personally believe the sport of boxing needs Mayweather at this point. The talk is Mayweather is lining up a mega fight with the current Pound for Pound king Manny Pacquiao. That is if Pacquiao can get past his next opponent Ricky Hatton in May, which a lot of boxing experts are predicting he should do.

Recently, Mayweather had made some noises about wanting to make a comeback for a fight against Ricky Hatton, but with Ricky now taking on Pacquiao, it looks as if Mayweather is going to have to come up with some other options for a fight.

Will Mayweather Hurt His Legacy If He Doesn’t Fight Margarito?

mayweather-hatton4By Manuel Perez: Still holding fast to his yearlong retirement, Floyd Mayweather Jr. (39-0, 25 KOs) has made hints at coming back soon, being mentioned to be interested in another fight with Ricky Hatton. Though why he’d be interested in fighting Hatton again, besides another easy fight and a guaranteed big payday, is beyond me. There’s nothing sporting about beating someone much less talented than you, which was the case in Mayweather’s easy win over Hatton in 2007. It’s like pistol whipping a blind Man. If Mayweather does return, most boxing fans are hoping that he’ll choose to fight the best fighters in the welterweight division, starting with Antonio Margarito.

mayweather44644By Chris Williams: With Floyd Mayweather Jr. (39-0, 25 KOs) rumored to be soon coming out of his year-long retirement for potential fights against Ricky Hatton, Manny Pacquiao and who knows else, I think Mayweather has a good opportunity here to straighten out the welterweight division by beating the top fighters and showing who the real boss is in the division. As of now, the top fighters are Miguel Cotto, Antonio Margarito, Paul Williams and Joshua Clottey.

Hatton To Retire in 2009 If He Beats Mayweather & Pacquiao?

hat5744545By Jim Dower: In an interview on Sky Sports, Hatton hinted at retirement in 2009, saying that if he can beat both Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao in 2009, that he’d have to review his options and make a decision about his future direction. Unfortunately, the chances of Hatton beating both Pacquiao and Mayweather are probably about as good as you are me hitting the lottery and striking it rich. Hatton is still leaning in the direction of facing Pacquiao next, though Mayweather remains an option if things don’t work out with Pacquiao.

Hatton Is Open To a Fight With Mayweather

hatton46436773By Jason Kim: Ricky Hatton is reportedly interested in a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. if Floyd is serious about making a comeback in the near future. Hatton, 30, still has unfinished business, not to mention hurt feelings, from his painful 10th round stoppage loss to Mayweather in 2007, and naturally wants to try and seek revenge for the bout in the future. However, if Mayweather Jr. is serious about staging a comeback fight against Hatton, he’s going to have to wait in line for him, as Hatton appears to be all but set for a fight against pound-for-pound boxing star Manny Pacquiao in May 2009.
