Marquez must stop Mayweather in order to win

marquez534343By William Mackay: I hate really hate to say this but I think Juan Manuel Marquez has only one chance of beating Floyd Mayweather Jr. this Saturday night and that’s by knocking Mayweather out. I wish it wasn’t this way, but I really think Marquez has to knock him out, because Marquez probably won’t be given a decision unless he knocks Mayweather down multiple times in the fight.

What does Mayweather Prove in Beating Marquez?

mayweather4523234By Dave Lahr: I’m trying to figure out what exactly Floyd Mayweather Jr. will prove in beating Juan Manuel Marquez this Saturday night. He’s in an almost no win situation. I can’t find a lot of things to say what Mayweather will get from this fight, to be honest. For one, Mayweather is fighting at super featherweight (130 pounds) last year and only recently moved up to lightweight late last year. Two years ago, Marquez was fighting at featherweight and had fought at that weight since the start of his career in 1993.

Mayweather-Marquez: Will Floyd Grow Old Over Night?

mayweather434345By Dave Lahr: This Saturday night there are a lot of questions about Floyd Mayweather Jr. (39-0, 25 KO’s) that will be answered in his catch weight fight with Mexican great Juan Manuel Marquez (50-4-1, 37 KO’s) at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. To start with, boxing fans are wondering how Mayweather will hold up under heat of battle against a well tuned fighter like the 36-year-old Marquez.

Mayweather Mows a Little Yard for a Lot of Money

mayweather54334324By Conrad Allan: What is it about the sport of boxing that entices people to demand more of a boxer than they themselves would offer or condone within the confines of their own career? He is a warrior! He challenged the best! He is humble! He cherrypicks! He’s a safety first fighter! He is a fraud! All of these statements have been used in one form or another in reference to the upcoming fight between Marquez and Mayweather.

Marquez – The Real Star of Mayweather-Marquez 24/7 series

marquez433456By Manuel Perez: As another fine site already pointed out, Juan Manuel Marquez has thus far stolen the show in the HBO Mayweather-Marquez 24/7 series. Never mind the one small blip on the series where Marquez let slip that he sometimes drinks his own pee, he has shown again and again to have more star quality than the rather boring to watch Mayweather. It’s something that goes beyond words that are said obviously, because Marquez’s words in Spanish are shown in subtitles rather than in English.

Has Mayweather Settled for Less In His Career?

mayweather433244By Dave Lahr: When you look at how good Floyd Mayweather Jr. was earlier in his career and how much he was achieving by winning titles in the super featherweight, lightweight. Light welterweight and welterweight divisions, and then look at him now, Mayweather seems to be kind of a sell out in a way. Mayweather is no longer taking on fighters in his own weight class, and is instead hunting down smaller fighters like Ricky Hatton, Juan Manuel Marquez and soon to be Manny Pacquiao.

De La Hoya: “I’m Convinced He [Marquez] Will Win This Fight”

marquez4435543By Jason Kim: Oscar De La Hoya is completely sold on Juan Manuel Marquez being able to pull off an upset on September 19th against Floyd Mayweather Jr. at the Staples Center, in Los Angeles, California, saying in a Thursday conference call “I’m convinced he [Juan Manuel Marquez] will win this fight.” De La Hoya was especially impressed with Marquez after seeing how he packed on nine pounds of muscle to his small lightweight frame, and is now weighting close to the 144 pound catch weight limit.

HBO Needs to liven up Mayweather-Marquez 24/7

marquez53454By Manuel Perez: I doubt that I’m the only one that thinks that the HBO Mayweather-Marquez 24/7 reality series is boring as heck. After being bored to tears watching Freddie Roach compete with Manny Pacquiao for air time on the Hatton-Pacquiao 24/7 last time out, I had low expectations about this one.

Mayweather vs Marquez: Who Will Really Look Like They Lost Something On 9/19?

mayweather45324445By Quinton Emerson: Much of the talk about this fight has to do with Floyd Mayweather Jr. having lost something since his last fight. Now I admit that’s a possibility, but it’s unlikely. When great fighters lose ability it’s not just because of age. Not taking care of their bodies and bad habits also contribute to that. And as we all know Floyd is a gym rat so that’s not an issue.
