Khan: I heard it’s Berto [for Mayweather fight]. Good luck to him

berto91By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan appeared to be admitting defeat in a tweet last night in saying that he’s heard through the grapevine that Floyd Mayweather Jr. will be facing Andre Berto on September 12th in his next fight.

Khan trains under the same trainer as Berto in Hayward, California, and he says he wishes Berto a lot of luck. It’s still not official, but given that they both have Virgil Hunter as their trainer, it’s likely that Berto told Hunter about him getting the fight, and he in turn may have told Khan. That’s the only way I can see Khan finding out about this.

Khan: There’s a good chance I’ll get Mayweather fight

khan777By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) hasn’t given up hope that he could still land the big money fight he’s been craving against Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) on September 12th, even though all signs point to Khan not getting the fight. Mayweather hasn’t exactly been leading Khan on by making the 28-year-old fighter think he’s going to be his next opponent.

Mayweather has said that he’s interested in facing Andre Berto or Karim Mayfield next, not Khan. As such, Mayweather can have a clear conscience in the next few weeks when he eventually makes his announcement about who he he’ll be facing next.

Mayweather starts training camp for next fight

floyd111By Chris Williams: The opponent for unbeaten WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) hasn’t been decided yet, but that’s not keeping him from starting his training camp to get ready for his next fight on September 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mayweather took to Instagram on Tuesday to say that he’s now starting his training camp to get ready for his fight on 9/12.

Whoever will be sharing the ring with Mayweather, they’re going to need to start training right now if they want to be prepared for when he names the lucky guy who will get the fight.

“Training camp has started,” Mayweather said.

Khan bellyaching about Mayweather making him wait

khan101By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) isn’t a happy camper right now with the way that WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) is making him wait to hear the news about whether he’ll get the fight against him or not on September 12th. Khan feels that Mayweather should have already said something by now, and he’s taking too much time.

There is now only eight and a half weeks to go before Mayweather’s next fight, leaving little time to promote the fight. Khan thinks Mayweather is dragging it out in an act of gamesmanship, to get an advantage over his opponents by leaving them on edge, an unable to begin training 100 percent.

Porter won’t fight Errol Spence unless Mayweather puts money on table, says Kenny P

porter44By Dan Ambrose: If Floyd Mayweather Jr. wants to get former IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (26-1-1, 16 KOs) to fight unbeaten #8 WBA 147lb contender Errol Spence (17-0, 14 KOs) on his next undercard for one of his world titles on September 12th, then Mayweather is going to have to put up some money, says Porter’s father/trainer Kenny Porter.

He says Porter won’t face Spence, of whoever Mayweather wants him to fight, unless he’s paid. However, Kenny doubts Mayweather will do this because it would mean that he’d be overpaying Spence, and he thinks that setup a situation where the other young fighters would want to be overpaid as well for their fights with Mayweather Promotions.

Khan has plan B option in case Mayweather fight doesn’t happen

YouTube video

By Scott Gilfoid: Like all the other top welterweights in the division, Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) is waiting to hear the news from Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) if he’s got the fight or not for September 12th. Khan has been pining away for the Mayweather fight for ages, and he’s now at the moment of truth about to find out if he’s going to hit the lottery or will be passed over for perhaps the final time.

Khan says his plan B option will be a big fight in November or December of this year. Khan says it’ll be a big fight, but it won’t be Kell Brook. Khan is saving that fight for later. He wants the Brook fight to continue to build over time. Needless to say, that’s Khan’s ace in the hole, or nuclear button he’ll push when things start looking bleak for him in terms of paydays.

Thurman says he’ll fight Errol Spence if Mayweather offers him $10 million

spenceBy Dan Ambrose: In a sign of how little interest WBA welterweight champion Keith Thurman (26-0, 22 KOs) has in fighting what many boxing fans see as the future of the 147lb division in undefeated Errol Spence Jr. (17-0, 14 KOs), Thurman said Floyd Mayweather Jr. should offer him $10 million to fight Spence Jr. on his undercard on September 12th. Mayweather already offered Thurman a spot on his undercard to fight Spence Jr. for one of his welterweight world titles.

Unfortunately for Mayweather and Spence, this doesn’t appear to be a good enough offer, because Thurman flat out turned it down, saying he wants the Mayweather fight. Thurman then said if Mayweather wants to offer him the Spence fight, then he needs to throw in $10 million to get him to consider it.

Mayweather confirms he’ll be fighting on September 12th

Floyd MayweatherBy Chris Williams: WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) has confirmed that he’ll be back inside the ring on September 12th against a still to be determined opponent. Mayweather also apologized for some of the people that are close to him. It’s unknown what was said by one of Mayweather’s insiders for him to apologize in this manner.

Before Mayweather’s statement about him fighting on September 12th, there were some boxing fans and fighters who felt that Mayweather would choose not to fight in September and instead wait around until May of 2016 to finish out his six-fight contract with Showtime in a big money rematch against Manny Pacquiao.
