Sanchez wants Golovkin vs. Mayweather in 2016

1-IMG_6214By Dan Ambrose: Abel Sanchez, the trainer for IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) is hoping that Golovkin can get a fight against unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) next year at 154. Sanchez says that Golovkin is willing to go down to junior middleweight to make the fight happen with Mayweather, and sees there being no reason why Mayweather can’t take the fight with Golovkin, because he says Golovkin and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez are both the same size.

Mayweather fought Canelo in 2013, and beat him by a 12 round decision. Canelo is actually heavier than Golovkin in coming into his fights as heavy as 175lbs compared to Golovkin’s usual 170lbs.

Khan believes he can take Mayweather’s spot as No.1 fighter in boxing

khanBy Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) feels he’s the one who can slide into the No.1 spot as the top fighter in boxing after Floyd Mayweather Jr. walks away from the game after his September 12th fight against Andre Berto.

Khan would have liked to have proven himself as the top fighter by facing Mayweather and beating him, but Mayweather had chosen to pass him up for a fight against Berto, a fighter better known in the United States than Khan with the casual boxing fans.

Khan says he wants to fight Manny Pacquiao and he’s hoping that fight can be made in 2016. Whether it does or not will be up to Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank, and of course to Pacquiao if he has any say so in who he’s matched up against.

Jhonny Gonzalez battles Jonathan Oquendo on Mayweather-Berto card

floyd4By Chris Williams: Former WBC featherweight champion Jhonny Gonzalez (58-9, 49 KOs) will be battling 32-year-old Jonathan Oquendo (25-4, 16 KOs) on the undercard of the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Andre Berto fight next month at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Gonzalez-Oquendo fight was added to the card on Thursday, and it’ll be a great addition to what is already an excellent undercard. The fight card will be televised on Showtime pay-per-view for $64.95 for standard definition and $74.95 for high definition.

Gonzalez, 33, is still trying to rebuild his career after being stopped in the 4th round by the younger Gary Russell Jr. last March in losing his WBC featherweight title. Since then, Gonzalez has stopped Kazuki Hashimoto in 2 rounds earlier this month. The fight against Hashimoto took place at super featherweight. There was no point in Gonzalez facing Russell Jr. again because he was clearly over-matched against him due to his hand speed advantage.

Mayweather: Everybody is overlooking Berto

floyd6666By Chris Williams: WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) quite rightly believes that his opponent Andre Berto (30-3, 23 KOs) is being overlooked by the boxing fans, the media and the odds-makers for their fight on September 12th on Showtime pay-per-view from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mayweather feels that the odds should be much closer because Berto has a lot more talent than what people believe him to have, and he’ll be making it a lot more competitive fight than people realize. Mayweather didn’t come right out and say it, but it’s possible that he sees Berto as giving him a better fight than Manny Pacquiao did last May.

Mayweather vs. Berto: Andre Could Be The One To Pull off The Upset

Floyd Mayweather and Andre BertoBy Edgar Solorzano: America’s greatest Ben Franklin once stressed, “In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.” A quotation that best describes the possibility of Andre Berto pulling off the victory against the pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. Many fight-fans believe this will be Mayweather’s easiest battle, however; in boxing the lion can lose its strength in a split second.

The squared-circle is a bloody environment engineered for talented artists to paint the canvas with leather gloves. Art conquering violence is boxing. We call it the sweet science, where boxers can see stars in a split second with a red leather glove to the pupil rather than a telescope. Boxing has never been a sport for the weak, and it never will be.

Calling Mayweather “scared” doesn’t make sense

Floyd MayweatherBy John Kelvin: One of the most consistent accusations which is thrown at Floyd Mayweather Jr. by some media and fans is that he is scared  or ducking certain fighters. For years Mayweather was called a coward because it was perceived by members of the media (the writers who only cover big fights and ignore everything else) that he was avoiding a fight with Manny Pacquiao.

When Mayweather clearly defeated Pacquiao last May in Las Vegas, Nevada, there was a mass outcry and anger about what happened. Anyone who knows or follows boxing knew that Mayweather was going to win decisively. The majority of pro boxers and analysts picked Mayweather to win a decision.

Ellerbe expects Berto to fight like a warrior and not complain about shoulder problems

_DSC0210(Photo credit: Idris Elba) By Chris Williams: Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe took a shot at Manny Pacquiao this past week by saying that he doesn’t expect Floyd Mayweather Jr’s opponent Andre Berto (30-3, 23 KOs) to start complaining about a shoulder problem during or after their fight on September 12th on Showtime PPV from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Ellerbe says Berto has fought with a shoulder injury before in the past in his bout with Jesus Soto Karass, and he fought with the pain and didn’t complain about the injury afterwards when he was knocked out in the 12th round by Soto-Karass.

Pacquiao now pursuing Mayweather like Khan

pac723By Chris Williams: After taking Manny Pacquiao’s pelt last May and adding it to his huge list of fine pelts, boxing’s No.1 star Floyd Mayweather Jr. now finds himself being pursued by Pacquiao in a rematch that the Filipino star is hoping will take place next year in 2016.

Pacquiao is going after a fight against Mayweather much in the same way that Amir Khan is. The only difference is that Pacquiao isn’t talking trash like Khan and showing frustration. Instead, Pacquiao is calmly saying he wants the rematch with Mayweather when interviewed and saying he thinks he can do a better job the next time around.
