Hernandez decisions Arslan

By Jim Dower: Making his 4th defense of his IBF cruiserweight title Yoan Pablo Hernandez (29-1, 14 KOs) defeated a tougher than expected Firat Arslan (34-8-2, 21 KOs) by a 12 round split decision in a fight that looked closer to be a draw than a win for Hernandez on Saturday night at the Messehalle in Erfurt, Germany.

Arslan expects to beat Yoan Pablo Hernandez

Steve Herelius, Yoan Pablo HernandezBy Eric Thomas: In fight involving questionable match-making, IBF cruiserweight champion Yoan Pablo Hernandez (28-1, 14 KOs) will be defending his title against 43-year-old Firat Arslan (34-7-2, 21 KOs) on August 16th at the Erfurt Exhibition Hall in Thuringia, Germany. Arslan is a former WBA cruiserweight title holder, but he lost his strap 6 years ago in a loss to Guillermo Jones.

Recently, Arslan has lost 2 out of his last 4 fights in the past two years, and he hardly should be given another world title shot based on two defeats at the hands of WBO cruiserweight champion Marco Huck.

This fight just kind of an indication how the better known fighters get title shots at the expense of the lesser known guys with a higher ranking. Arslan isn’t ranked in the top 15 by any of the sanctioning bodies at this time in the cruiserweight division.

Huck destroys Arslan in 6 rounds; David Price stops Ruzsinszky

By Jim Dower: WBO cruiserweight champion Marco Huck (37-2-1, 26 KO’s) bludgeoned his 43-year-old opponent Firat Arslan (33-7-2, 21 KO’s) in stopping him in the 6th round on Saturday night at the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer Halle, Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Huck dropped Arslan twice in the 6th, and flurried on a badly hurt Arslan in the corner until the fight was halted with Arslan still on his feet.

Weights: Price-Ruzsinszky & Huck-Arslan II

price787(Photo Credit: Photo Wende) By Scott Gilfoid: Heavyweight David Price (15-2, 13 KO’s) weighed in on Friday for his mismatch against Istvan Ruzsinszky (12-9-1, 8 KO’s) on Saturday night at the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer Halle, Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Price, 30, weighed in at 248.7 lbs. and looked good. Price is never out of shape for his fights. His problem is more in the chin department unfortunately.

Price’s 5’11” opponent Ruzsinszky weighed in at 244.3 lbs. That’s kind of a lot of weight for someone who’s not even 6-feet tall, and you can imagine that he’s going to have a lot of problems moving around the ring in the brief amount of time that the fight lasts.

Marco Huck vs. Firat Arslan II this Saturday in Germany

huck43By Allan Fox: This Saturday night WBO cruiserweight champion Marco Huck (36-2-1, 25 KO’s) will be facing his #1 WBO challenger Firat Arslan (33-6-2, 21 KO’s) this Saturday night in a rematch at the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer Halle, Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

This is a fight that will settle the controversy of their previous fight in November 2012, which ended with Huck receiving a 12 round unanimous decision victory by the scores 115-113, 115-113, 117-111. Few people outside of those three judges had Huck winning the fight, but winning by controversial decisions is something that the 29-year-old Huck is known for.

Huck suffers elbow injury, fight with Arslan postponed

huck4353By Allan Fox: WBO cruiserweight champion Marco Huck (36-2-1, 25 KO’s) suffered a fractured left elbow during sparring for his September 14th fight against Firat Arslan (33-6-2, 21 KO’s) Hanns-Martin-Schleyer Halle, Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

Due to the severity of the injury, Huck won’t be able to make the September 14th, and the fight will be rescheduled for a later date. Arslan, 42, could still end up fighting on the September 14th card against an opponent still to be determined.

Chris Meyer, the Sauerland Event managing director, said to ESPN “He [Huck] will be out for some weeks. We will reschedule the Arslan bout.

Huck vs. Afolabi III Review: Afolabi falls short again as Huck moves on to Arslan rematch

huck54By Peter Wells (twitter @boxingbrains): When Marco Huck and Ola Afolabi fight, it can be hard to predict who will be the victor, but it doesn’t take a genius to know that both fighters will leave it all in the ring. And, as everyone predicted we were treated to a third all-or-nothing war between the pair of Cruiserweights who just have a knack of serving up a delightful brawl.

For the 2nd time in the trilogy, Marco Huck, the German fighter, was awarded the decision – the 2nd fight was scored a draw. Although each fight has been tight, so far I have agreed with each of the decisions – basically I don’t believe any of the fights were biased towards the home fighter, Huck, which is the common accusation when a boxer is awarded the win in a close fight in his homeland.

Huck likely to face Arslan next

huck5643By Eric Thomas: WBO cruiserweight champion Marco Huck (36-2-1, 25 KO’s) beat Ola Afolabi (19-3-4, 9 KO’s) last Saturday night by a 12 round majority decision in their third fight. Like their other two fights together, it was close from start to finish, but Huck ended up prevailing by the scores 117-111, 115-113, 114-114. With this win, Huck will likely face 42-year-old former WBA cruiserweight champion Firat Arslan (33-6-2, 21 KO’s) in a rematch for later this year. Huck beat Arslan by a controversial 12 round unanimous decision last November.

That fight was controversial because Arslan dominated Huck and out-landed him and out-worked him. Arslan forced Huck to fight on the inside where Huck is much less skilled and he gave him a real beating.

Braehmer destroys Averlant; Arslan decisions Vekiloglu

Tony Averlant, JŸrgen BrŠhmer(Picture: Photo Wende) By Jim Dower: In a bad mismatch, EBU light heavyweight champion Juergen Braehmer (40-2, 31 KO’s) destroyed journeyman challenger Tony Averlant (18-8-2, 4 KO’s) in a 2nd round knockout on Saturday night at the Sporthalle, Alsterdorf, in Hamburg, Germany. The 34-year-old Braehmer tagged Averlant with a hard left to the body in the 2nd round that sent him down on the canvas.

Although Averlant made it back to his feet, referee Howard John Foster halted the fight anyway at 2:36. It’s a good thing the referee did stop the fight because as soon as he waived the fight off, Averlant sunk back down on the canvas on his own and continued to clutch at his midsection while grimacing in pain.
