Fedor Chudinov vs. Felix Sturm rematch on February 20

Felix_Sturm_2By Tim Fletcher: The 37-year-old former IBF/WBA/WBO middleweight champion Felix Sturm (39-5-3, 18 KOs) will be getting a rematch against WBA Super World super middleweight champion Fedor Chudinov (14-0, 10 KOs) in eight days from now on February 20 at the Koenig Pilsener Arena, Oberhausen, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany.

Sturm was beaten by Chudinov by a 12 round split decision last year in May. However, Sturm appealed the decision to the World Boxing Association and has been given a rematch.

Sturm will need to be a lot more active in the rematch if he wants to beat the 28-year-old Chudinov because he was badly outworked in the fight. There was nothing controversial about the decision. Chudinov clearly did more than Sturm and was the busier fighter.

Felix Sturm challenges Fedor Chudinov on February 20 in Germany

sturm56By Scott Gilfoid: 36-year-old former IBF/WBA/WBO 160lb champion Felix Sturm (39-5-3, 18 KOs) will be facing WBA World super middleweight champion Fedor Chudinov (14-0, 10 KOs) in a rematch in two months from now on February 20 at the Koenig Pilsener Arena, in Oberhausen, Germany.

Sturm has not fought since losing by a 12 round split decision to Chudinov last May in a fight in Frankfurt, Germany. Sturm appealed the decision with the WBA and was granted a rematch against the 28-year-old Russian Chudinov.

Sturm’s career has not gone too well as of late, and it is difficult to figure out why the World Boxing Association is letting him get another shot at a title at all at this point. Sturm has not won a fight in two years since beating Darren Barker in 2013.

If Chudinov wins that fight, he’ll be facing Sturm in a rematch in December. Chudinov defeated Sturm by a 12 round split decision last May in a very close fight in Frankfurt, Germany.

WBO president shoots down Abraham-Sturm fight discussion

abraham5By Scott Gilfoid: WBO president Paco Valcárcel, Esq. shot down the idea of a title fight between WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (43-4, 29 KOs) and 36-year-old former IBF/WBA/WBO 160lb champion Felix Sturm (39-5-3, 18 KOs) for this year. Valcárcel, Esq. said in his tweet today that Sturm isn’t ranked in the top 15 by the World Boxing Organization at this time at 168.

This is bad news for Abraham’s promoter Wilfried Sauerland, who said that the Abraham-Sturm fight had to take place in 2015 for there to be any interest in the fight.

sturm6By Allan Fox: If the long awaited German match-up between WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (43-4, 29 KOs) and the aging former IBF/WBA/WBO middleweight champion Felix Sturm (39-5-3, 18 KOs) is going to take place then it must take place in 2015, according to Abraham’s promoter Wilfried Sauerland.

Sauerland thinks the fight is already late in taking place, and Sturm waits until 2016 before finally taking the fight, it will be too late.

Felix Sturm vs. Fedor Chudinov for WBA regular 168lb title, Froch to be stripped?

sturm543445By Scott Gilfoid: On May 9th, former IBF/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Felix Sturm (39-4-3, 18 KOs) will be challenging interim WBA super middleweight champion Fedor Chudinov (12-0, 10 KOs) at the Festhalle, Frankfurt, Hessen, Germany. According to Fightnews.com, the 36-year-old Sturm and Chudinov will be fighting for the WBA regular super middleweight title.

This is the belt that is currently in the hands of Carl Froch. This means that he’ll be stripped of his WBA 168 pound strap by the World Boxing Association. The reason why Froch will be stripped is because he didn’t agree to the negotiations with Andre Ward after the WBA ordered the Ward-Froch fight.
