By Chris Williams: Terence Crawford vs. Felix Diaz brought in good ratings last Saturday night on HBO Championship Boxing in pulling in an average of 961,000 viewers with a peak of 1.036 million viewers for their fight at Madison Square Garden in New York. That was an increase of 19% for the 29-year-old Crawford from his previous fight on HBO against John Molina Jr., which averaged 806,000 viewers last December.

By Jeff Aranow: Terence Crawford cannot afford to lose or look bad against Felix Diaz this Saturday night for him to stay in the running for a fight against Manny Pacquiao. Given that Crawford’s promoter Bob Arum is so eager to make the Pacquiao-Crawford fight, he could probably lose to Diaz and still have a fair chance of getting the fight against the aging Filipino star. But obviously it would make things a lot tougher.

Crawford, 29, isn’t ducking the fight with Diaz. There are some fans that think Crawford is ducking Errol Spence Jr., and afraid to move up to 147 to fight guys his own size. The fans point out that Crawford is as heavy as some of the top welterweights in the division after he rehydrates. But if Crawford can make 140, there’s no real reason for him to move up to 147 yet.

The Crawford-Diaz fight was originally planned to be staged at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, but Crawford’s promoters at Top Rank were approached by officials from Madison Square Garden recently to offer them to stage the fight in their venue.
