By Scott Gilfoid: The three judges that worked the Erislandy Lara vs. Paul Williams fight have been suspended by the New Jersey State Athletic Board according to Dan Rafael at ESPN. Williams won the fight by a 12 round majority decision by the scores of 115-114, 116-114 and 114-114.
Erislandy Lara
Lara a potential opponent for Saul Alvarez or Dzinziruk
By Dan Ambrose: Provided that junior middleweight fringe contender Erislandy Lara’s slight facial fracture heals quickly enough, he could be a potential opponent for WBC junior middleweight champion Saul Alvarez (37-0-1, 27 KO’s) for his second title defense, which is scheduled to take place on September 17th in Mexico.
Paul Williams decisions Lara; Sergio Martinez could be next
By Jim Dower: Paul Williams (40-2, 27 KO’s) didn’t look pretty in beating Erislandy Lara (15-1-1, 10 KO’s) last Saturday night by a questionable 12 round majority decision but Williams will take the win anyway he can get it. He was hit a lot in the fight by Lara’s left hand leads, and badly bloodied.
Williams deserved the win over Lara

Williams defeats Lara by controversial decision
By Jim Dower: Former WBO welterweight champion Paul Williams (40-2, 28 KO’s) defeated Cuban Erislandy Lara (15-1-1, 10 KO’s) by a hugely unpopular 12 round majority decision on Saturday night at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Williams defeats Lara; Arreola decisions Ahunanya; Ramos stops Shimoda
By Jim Dower: Paul Williams (40-2, 27 KOs) was forced to fight a lot harder than he expected to in defeating Erislandy Lara (15-1-1, 10 KO’s) by a 12 round majority decision on Saturday night at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Will Williams be able to hold up under the fire from Lara?
By Dan Ambrose: It’s pretty clear what unbeaten junior middleweight contender Erislandy Lara (15-0-1, 10 KO’s) will be attempting to do tonight against Paul Williams (39-2, 27 KO’s) in their scheduled 12 round non title fight at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Williams-Lara: Can Williams punish the Cuban hotshot
By Peter Wells: When first hearing about this fight I couldn’t really believe it, a big prospect like Erislandy Lara who is coming off the back of a draw is fighting Paul ‘The Punisher’ Williams. Yes, Paul was knocked out brutally last time out but he’s still one of the best Light Middleweights in the world and I believe he can still prove he is the best. As you can tell I feel that this is a big task for Lara and he does need to step it up now but shouldn’t he be fighting someone like Austin Trout or Alfredo Angulo. Also his last outing doesn’t seem convincing that he’s good enough to beat Williams.
Williams vs. Lara: Two flawed fighters go at this Saturday
By Dan Ambrose: This Saturday night former WBO welterweight champion Paul Williams (39-2, 27 KOs) faces Cuban Erislandy Lara (15-0, 10 KO’s) in a 12 round bout at the Boardwalk Hall, in Atlantic City, New Jersey. It’s incredibly difficult to get excited about this fight because Williams was knocked cold in his last bout in a second round knockout loss to Sergio Martinez last year in November, while his opponent Lara fought to a controversial 10 round majority draw with fringe contender Carlos Molina in March of this year.
Summer Boxing: Alexander-Matthysse, Klitschko-Haye, Williams-Lara, Marquez-Ramos, Klitschko-Adamek
By Alexis Aviles: Boxing in the summer is usually the slow point of the year gearing you for the more anticipated fights happening later in the fall. A year ago the most we got was Juan Diaz vs Juan Manuel Marquez in their second fight, which failed to live up to their first fight. We also had Miguel Cotto vs Yuri Foreman which saw Cotto win by body-shot KO after Foremans leg gave out a few times. Jean Pascal vs Chad Dawson in a fight that as Pascal was getting knocked out, the fight was stopped and the technical decision was given to Pascal.
