Khan has more chance against Mayweather than he does against Brook

khan777By Chris McCarthy: On Saturday we saw Amir Khan back to his brilliant best, completely shutting out Devon Alexander over 12 rounds, throwing with his incredible speed and accuracy. Alexander was beaten from the first round and knew it.

The trouble with this is Alexander is not a puncher. He is a counter puncher who wasn’t given the chance to dictate the fight. Khan will always beat these fighters. What he should avoid like the plague is one punch knockout artists like the Danny Garcias and Keith Thurmans of this world. While Brook isn’t quite as ferocious as those two, he does have the power to put Khan away.

For all his great attributes, Mayweather lacks the power to destroy opponents within the 12 round distance. We have to go back 9 fights to when Mayweather last knocked anyone out, and that was Ricky Hatton, who by that point was running around the ring like a headless chicken and a knockout was inevitable. Please note that I do not count the Victor Ortiz knockout as genuine as I felt Ortiz was doing what he could to get out of the fight.

Khan: I have the style and speed to beat Floyd

Amir Khan vs Devon AlexanderBy Scott Gilfoid: After beating American Devon Alexander (26-3, 14 KOs) by a careful 12 round unanimous decision last night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, Amir Khan (30-3, 19 KOs) is convinced that he’s the best fighter in the welterweight division and that he has the talent to defeat boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr (47-0, 26 KOs) next year.

Khan says his hand speed, which isn’t much more than Mayweather’s, and his fighting style would be enough for him to beat Mayweather. Khan thinks that the boxing fans want to see him fight Mayweather in May despite the fact that few fans are calling for that fight.

Khan and Thurman dominating performances at Las Vegas MGM Grand

Amir Khan vs Devon AlexanderBy Matthias Predonzan: The performance that last night Amir Khan put together against Devon Alexander, was the best of his career. After his defeat against Danny Garcia and the poor performance in his tuning bout against Julio Diaz, it looked like Khan career could have been at its end.

Many were expecting him to lose against the solidity of Luis Collazo but in that occasion Khan displayed all his class, controlling his opponent for 12 round and winning convincingly an UD.

He did not take any risk, clinching his contender every time he needed to do it and for this reason he was criticized by some critics and fans.

Khan beats Alexander in safety-first performance

Amir Khan vs Devon AlexanderBy Scott Gilfoid: Fighting in a purely defensive manner for pretty much the entire fight, Amir Khan (30-3, 19 KOs) defeated former two division world champion Devon Alexander (26-3, 14 KOs) by a 12 round unanimous at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The final judges’ scores were 119-109, 118-110 and 120-107.

Khan constantly backed away each time Alexander would initiate any kind of offense, which made the fight very difficult to watch.

“I’m the best boxer with the quickest hands in the sport,” Khan said after the fight. “I have the best jab in the business.”

Thurman looks poor against Bundu

Keith Thurman vs Leonard BunduBy Jim Dower: Interim WBA welterweight champion Keith Thurman (24-0, 21 KOs) looked poor tonight in beating 40-year-old European level contender Leonard Bundu (31-1-2, 11 KOs) by one-sided 12 round unanimous decision at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The crowd booed Thurman’s running from rounds 4 through 12. Thurman treated the light hitting Bundu like he was a knockout artist instead of a light hitting contender.

The judges scored the fight 120-107, 120-107 and 120-107.

Khan: You’ll see a different Amir Khan tonight

Amir Khan and Devon Alexander(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan (29-3, 19 KOs) says he expects to be new and improved when he gets in the ring tonight against former two division world champion Devon Alexander (26-2, 14 KOs) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, Khan says that with the help of his trainer Virgil Hunter he’s learned from the mistakes he made in his knockout losses to Breidis Prescott and Danny Garcia.

Khan attributes those losses to him being off balance when he was hit in those fights. Khan plans on keeping his balance tonight in order to avoid getting hit with any of Alexander’s shots while he’s not prepared to receive them.

Top welters in action but nobody wants Thurman

Keith Thurman and Leonard Bundu(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Gav Duthie: This Saturday hosts several top welterweights in action in Tim Bradley, Amir Khan, Devon Alexander, Victor Ortiz and Keith Thurman. Once again Thurman is left holding the short straw as he faces the 39 year old Italian and European champion Leonard Bundu 31-0-2 (11). Why one of these other self-proclaimed world class fighters doesn’t want to fight Thurman is beyond me.

Promotion

How badly Thurman has been advised is horrible. Golden Boy have steered him in the direction of the WBA where he is the #1 contender. Mayweather is the champion and hell will freeze over before the WBA demands he fight ‘One Time’ as mandatory.

Weigh-in: Khan 147, Alexander 147

009_Khan_and_Alexander(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Chris Williams: Amir Khan (29-4, 19 KOs) and Devon Alexander (26-2, 14 KOs) both weighed in right at the limit at 147 pounds on Friday at their weight in for their fight on Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The two fighters had a long stare down with both of them jawing at each other. Alexander seemed to be the more relaxed of the two, and didn’t appear to take the stare down nearly as serious as Khan, who looked like he was trying to stare holes through Alexander for some reason.
