Denis Boytsov with serious head injuries after being found in underground tunnel

boytsov3By Jim Dower: Heavyweight Denis Boytsov (36-1, 27 KOs) was reportedly found with serious head injuries in an underground tunnel in Berlin, Germany last week. According to Mogenpost.de, Boytsov has been put in an artificial coma so that swelling can decrease on his brain. He’s in critical condition.

It’s unknown what happened to Boytsov at this point to put him in this state. The German police are investigating the incident to find out what took place. A subway rider round Boytsov lying on the tracks and he informed the authorities.

Boytsov on the verge of a Klitschko title shot

boytsov3By Allan Fox: If #1 WBO Denis Boytsov (33-0, 26 KO’s) can get past his opponent next month Alex Leapai (29-4-3, 24 KO’s) on November 23rd in Bamberg, Germany, Boytsov will be getting a title shot against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko. Boytsov, 27, has yet to face a top tier opponent during his 9-year pro career and he still won’t even after the Leapai fight. It doesn’t matter. Boytsov will be Wladimir’s WBO mandatory challenger, and that’ll give him the the title shot.

Wladimir is going to have a busy year in 2014 because he has a an IBF mandatory due against Kubrat Pulev, and then he has the WBO mandatory against Boytsov. It’s difficult to say which is the tougher fighter for him because both Boytsov and Pulev are far below Wladimir in the talent department and don’t have his speed, power, athleticism or experience.

Chisora v Boytsov on September 21st in London, UK

chisora45By Stevie Ocallaghan: On 21 September at the Copper Box Arena in London, Dereck Chisora takes on unbeaten Russian Denis Boytsov for the vacant EBU European Heavyweight title.

A good match-up for two fighters who are angling for position in the rankings, which has got to be a good thing.

Chisora has quite possibly had the hardest run of fights out there over any other heavyweight on the planet and that includes the K brothers. David Haye, Vitali Klitchko, Robert Helenuis and Tyson Fury in the last 2 years. Not to mention unbeaten American Malik Scott who i rate very highly. All top 10 heavyweights with one or another of the organizations. No other Heavy on the planet has done that. Remember, this fight will only be his 22nd pro contest. Others should take note.

Chisora to face Boytsov for EBU heavyweight title on September 21st

boytsov3By Scott Gilfoid: British heavyweight Dereck Chisora (17-4, 11 KO’s) is hoping to get ranked high enough to get a fight against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko if Chisora can beat undefeated Russian #1 WBO, #3 WBA, Denis Boytsov (33-0, 26 KO’s) next month in their fight on September 21st at the Copper Box Arena, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Hackney Wick, London, United Kingdom.

Chisora and Boytsov will be fighting for the EBU heavyweight title.

Chisora thinks that a win over Boytsov will allow him to skip over the other heavyweight contenders like Deontay Wilder (29-0, 29 KO’s) to get a title shot against Wladimir in 2014. I’m not sure if Chisora is seeing things clearly.

By Jim Dower: Heavyweight contender Manuel Charr (24-1, 14 KO’s) put on a body punching display last Saturday in stopping 38-year-old Ukrainian journeyman Oleksiy Mazikin (14-9-2, 4 KO’s) in the 3rd round in a scheduled 12 round fight of his WBC Baltic heavyweight title at the Karl Eckel Halle, Hattersheim am Main, Hessen, Germany.

boytsov3By Allan Fox: Undefeated heavyweight contender Denis Boytsov (32-0, 25 KO’s) faced Ukrainian Oleksandr Nesterenko (9-1, 4 KO’s) in a scheduled 8 round bout this Saturday night on the Manuel Charr vs. Oleksiy Mazikin fight card at the Karl Eckel Halle, Hattersheim am Main, Hessen, Germany.

Boytsov, 27, had the chance to fight unbeaten Tyson Fury recently but the fight failed to materialize. It looks like Boytsov is going to wait until he gets a title shot against one of the heavyweight champions before he faces his first real test.

Denis Boytsov vs. Marcelo Luiz Nascimento on February 17th in Germany

boytsov3By Allan Fox: Undefeated heavyweight contender Denis Boytsov (31-0, 25 KO’s) will be back in the ring on February 17th against the hard hitting Marcelo Luiz Nascimento (16-4, 14 KO’s) in a scheduled 8 round bout at the Schwerin, Mecklenburg-Vorpommem, Germany.

Boytsov, 26, is looking to stay busy and keep moving up the rankings so that he can get a title shot against one of the champions. Ranking #4 WBA, #5 WBO, Boytsov is in range of a title shot if he can keep winning. However, he’s got to be a little busier because he’s not been nearly as active as he should in the past two years.

A big part of Boytsov’s problems is he’s been dealing with injuries, and that’s kept him out of fights. Recently, Boytsov had a chance to fight Tyson Fury, but the fight didn’t happen unfortunately.

British Heavyweight Weekend: What did we learn?

Image: British Heavyweight Weekend: What did we learn?By Paul McT: Both Tyson Fury and David Price were in action over the last two days, both came away with a win but what did each fight say about how far these prospects have come?

Friday night boxing in Britain is uncommon, but a welcome addition nonetheless. Friday’s action was interesting, with Price fighting a tough weathered fighter in Matt Skelton, and Andrew ”Freddie” Flintoff  facing off against Richard Dawson, a fellow novice. The less said about the Flintoff fight the better, although I myself appreciate the publicity boxing received.

David Price: More of the same

Yet another brutal knockout victory for the softly spoken Price showcased his power, again. As impressive as his power is, the recent lack of rounds is dangerous, we have yet to see him being pushed or even have his defence tested.

Fringe contenders to Wladimir Klitschko’s titles: The Ignored Contenders

Image: Fringe contenders to Wladimir Klitschko's titles: The Ignored Contenders2012 was quite a busy year for Wladimir Klitschko. The quality of the opposition he faced was  poor as  Jean Marc Mormeck, Tony Thompson and Mariusz Wach are hardly considered exciting match ups. Amongst the supposed mismatches the Polish warrior Mariusz Wach was the sole surprise, in a lopsided 12 round beating he showed a granite chin and seemingly unbreakable resolve.  He could be the fighter to watch for 2013.

Klitschko also lost a great friend and mentor in Emmanuel Steward. Nothing I can say could begin to capture the magic behind this man, and his effect on Wladimir,Lewis and Hearns in the past. The loss of a mentor is painful, although this was shown to be a motivator for Wladimir and also Jonathan Banks who won a surprise 2nd round KO against American prospect Seth Mitchell.
