Evander Holyfield believes he got what it takes to beat Nikolai Valuev and become the oldest heavyweight champion of all time. The living legend will try to deprive the Russian Giant of his WBA title when he comes face-to-face with him in Zurich on Saturday night. “I am in great shape,” Holyfield said during today´s media work-out at the Swissotel. “There have been many great fighters in the history of boxing but nobody managed to win the heavyweight title at the age of 46. I will try to accomplish that.”

Holt Defeats Hopkins

holt34231By Jim Dower: In his first defense of his World Boxing Organization (WBO) light welterweight title, Kendall Holt (25-2, 13 KOs) won a 12-round split decision over replacement fighter Demetrius Hopkins (28-1-1, 11 KOs) on Saturday night at the Boardwalk Hall, in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The final judges’ scores were 116-112, 117-111 and 113-115. The fight wasn’t all that close, though, as Holt clearly was the better fighter through much of the 12-round fight.

Witter vs. Hopkins On March 22nd

World Boxing Council light welterweight champion Junior Witter (36-1-2, 21 KOs), tired of calling out Ricky Hatton and subsequently being ignored for his efforts, had decided to bide his time and take on the undefeated Demetrius Hopkins (28-0-1, 11 KOs) on March 22nd, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Hopkins, 27, is a light-hitting inside fighter, whom has mostly fought lower echelon opposition up until now. His style it would seem clashes with that of Witter, a fast outside fighter with a style that seems like a combination of Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Roy Jones Jr. Of the junior welterweights, many people consider Witter, 33, to be far and away the best of the bunch with only Hatton coming remotely close to him in overall talent.
