Image: Erik Morales vs. Danny Garcia II: Can time be defeated?By Gerardo Granados: The former four-division Champion and future hall of fame member Erik “Terrible” Morales has had a long boxing career but can he keep on fighting forever? The major preys of these old lion king are Junior Jones, hall of fame member Daniel Zaragoza, future hall of fame members Marco Antonio Barrera and Manny Pacquiao; but that was quite a long time ago.

Morales was only 21 years old when he defeated Zaragoza back in 1997, when Daniel was already 39 years old. At the age of 35 years old Morales defeated Pablo Cesar Cano to pick his fourth division crown after a two years retirement.

Rios should have to prove himself against Garcia, Matthysse and Peterson before getting Pacquiao

Image: Rios should have to prove himself against Garcia, Matthysse and Peterson before getting PacquiaoBy Chris Williams: Brandon Rios (31-0-1, 23 KO’s) probably earned himself a shot against Manny Pacquiao last night in defeated Mike Alvarado (33-1, 23 KO’s) in their WBO light welterweight eliminator bout. With both Rios and Pacquiao belonging to the same Top Rank stable, it’s now almost a given that their promoter Bob Arum will match Rios up with Pacquiao next April, provided that Pacquiao beats Juan Manuel Marquez on December 8th. If Pacquiao loses, then it’ll likely be Marquez that faces Rios.

By matching Rios up with Pacquiao, Arum continues with the club-like fight matching of his fighters because it’s just another Top Rank in house fight for Arum if he makes this fight. I think Rios is a decent fighter but I’d like to see him actually prove himself worthy of a fight with Pacquiao by beating more established light welterweights like Lucas Matthysse, Danny Garcia, and Lamont Peterson before Rios gets a shot against Pacquiao.

Angel Garcia: Erik Morales should retire; he’s going to get beat again

Image: Angel Garcia: Erik Morales should retire; he's going to get beat againBy Dan Ambrose: WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia’s dad Angel Garcia is predicting a 5th round knockout victory for his son over 36-year-old Erik Morales (52-8, 36 KO’s) later this month on October 20th at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York, USA. Angel thinks that Morales is too fat now, and needs to retire from the game. He suspects that Morales is still fighting because he needs money.

Angel said to RingTV “I say five [rounds] to be nice, Danny says four…I didn’t know he [Morales] was that big [fat]. It was all here [pointing to his midsection] too. That’s bad. Honestly, [he’s still fighting] probably cause he needs the money. If it was me, I wouldn’t let him fight. Listen, your day is over, that’s it. If you can’t walk around at 50′ at least, and you’re walking around at 180, that’s bad.”

Garcia-Morales II: Danny looking to prove his win over Erik wasn’t a fluke

Image: Garcia-Morales II: Danny looking to prove his win over Erik wasn't a flukeBy Jason Kim: WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (24-0, 15 KO’s) already did a number on 36-year-old Erik Morales (52-8, 36 KO’s), but now he’ll have to do it again due to Morales having a rematch clause in his contract for the previous time they fought in March of this year in a fight that saw Garcia pound out and easy 12 round unanimous decision. Garcia dominated but ended up suffering a broken nose from one of Morales’ hard jabs.

Garcia ready to finish off Morales and send him into retirement

Image: Garcia ready to finish off Morales and send him into retirementBy Dan Ambrose: WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (24-0, 15 KO’s) is poised to beat 36-year-old Erik Morales (52-8, 36 KO’s) to send him into a permanent retirement when they meet up on October 20th at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York. Morales is getting a second chance at Garcia despite having previously been badly beaten by him last March in a one-sided 12 round beat down.

The fight was so one-sided that it’s been impossible to generate any real excitement about this fight with the boxing public. It’s like trying to generate excitement for a second fight between George Foreman and Joe Frazier after the first fight was a massacre. Garcia, 24, didn’t quite beat Morales that bad, but he beat him about as bad as you can in dealing with a 12 round decision.

Danny Garcia defends his WBA/WBC 140 lb titles against Erik Morales in rematch on 10/20

Image: Danny Garcia defends his WBA/WBC 140 lb titles against Erik Morales in rematch on 10/20By Jason Kim: WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia 924-0, 15 KO’s) gets to prove for the second time that he’s better than the 36-year-old Erik Morales (52-8, 36 KO’s) on October 20th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. It wasn’t enough that the 24-year-old Garcia totally out-boxed a stiff and slow Morales last March in a one-sided 12 round unanimous victory in Houston, Texas, but now boxing fans have to see the same mismatch for a second time.

The reason for this is because Morales had a rematch clause in his contract, so we’re seeing Morales and Garcia fight again despite how one-sided a fight it last time they fought. Morales really should know better than to take on Garcia again, because he was completely dominated the last time and looked really old in losing that fight. But you can kind of understand why Morales might be doing this. After all, he’s getting a good payday out of the fight because Garcia is the WBA/WBC light welterweight champion, and that’s a definite plus for Morales. It isn’t like Morales can get a title shot right now against any of the other light welterweight champs.
