Danny Garcia vs. Zab Judah almost done for 1/19

Image: Danny Garcia vs. Zab Judah almost done for 1/19By Dan Ambrose: Whether you like it or not, WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (25-0, 16 KO’s) is poised to fight 35-year-old former two division world champion Zab Judah (42-7, 29 KO’s) in January of next year, according to Fightype.com. The Garcia-Judah fight, if you want to call it that, is almost done for January 19th in a fight that will be televised on HBO.

Of all the possible contenders available for the fight with Garcia, such as Brandon Rios, Lucas Matthysse, and Ajose Olusegun, this is the fight that Golden Boy Promotions wants to set up for him. It’s a pretty poor fight given how shot Judah is, but Golden Boy appears to be betting that the casual boxing fans and to a certain extent the hardcore fans will want to see this match.

Danny Garcia expected back on 1/19; Judah likely opponent

Image: Danny Garcia expected back on 1/19; Judah likely opponentBy Dan Ambrose: WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (25-0, 16 KO’s) is expected back in the ring on January 19th next year in a return to the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York, according to RingTV. Richard Schaefer, the CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, says they have two possible opponents that they’re currently looking at for that fight but he’s not saying who those fighters are.

However, Schaefer already tipped his hand at the Garcia – Erik Morales press conference last Saturday night by mentioning 34-year-old Zab Judah (42-7, 29 KO’s) as someone that Golden Boy is considering for that fight. Judah is from Brooklyn, so it’s a natural for him to be selected.

Fans prefer Danny Garcia to fight Brandon Rios or Lucas Mattysse next, not Judah

Image: Fans prefer Danny Garcia to fight Brandon Rios or Lucas Mattysse next, not JudahBy Dan Ambrose: In a poll conducted by RingTV, boxing fans preferred by a wide margin that WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia fight #1 Brandon Rios or #2 Lucas Matthysse for Garcia’s next fight in February or March of next year. Boxing fans don’t appear to be all that interested in seeing Garcia fight Zab Judah, who has already been mentioned by Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer as possibly the next guy that Garcia fights.

Below are the results of the poll from 3,855 fans:

Danny Garcia vs. Zab Judah: A good stay busy tune-up for Danny

Image: Danny Garcia vs. Zab Judah: A good stay busy tune-up for DannyBy Dan Ambrose: It appears that Golden Boy Promotions has their minds made up to put WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (25-0, 16 KO’s) in with 34-year-old Zab Judah (42-7, 29 KO’s) against a much tougher opponent in #1 WBC Lucas Matthysse next.

You can’t really blame Golden Boy for wanting to milk Garcia’s title run because Matthysse is good enough to possibly beat Garcia, and that’s not good business for Golden Boy to have Garcia beaten. He’s quickly becoming a little money maker for Golden Boy, and who knows?

Hurrah for Erik “Terrible” Morales!

Image: Hurrah for Erik “Terrible” Morales!By Gerardo Granados: After seen several news reports and read sports columns that state that it was regrettable or even sad to see how Erik Morales was knocked out, I could do nothing else but to disagree. How can there be shame when losing against a fighter that most sports writers consider to be the best light welterweight?

In a Boxing era in which most of the organization champions avoid the top contenders and instead cherry pick their opponents picking the ones who are tailor made for them in order to look good, I can only thank Erik Morales for having the stones to face dangerous fighters through his entire boxing career. How can it be important that he was knocked out in his last fight when he gave fans so many epic battles, let´s not forget that it was Morales who gave the first title shot to Danny Garcia.

Danny Garcia: Matthysse isn’t one of the best fighters at 140

Image: Danny Garcia: Matthysse isn't one of the best fighters at 140(Photo credit: Naoki Fakuda) By Dan Ambrose: It looks like the ducking is already starting for WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (25-0, 15 KO’s) after having stopped Erik Morales (52-9, 36 KO’s) in the fourth round in their rematch last night in Brooklyn, New York. Garcia did a good job of putting Morales out of his misery with a nice left hook to the head that rendered him senseless.

However, after the fight when Garcia was questioned about whether or not he’d be interested in fighting interim WBC light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse (32-2, 30 KO’s), Garcia said “To me, Lucas Matthysse isn’t one of the best. He doesn’t got a title. I can beat anybody.”

That doesn’t sound like Garcia wants to mix it up with the hard hitting Matthysse, does it? Garcia may not have much choice because he’s going to have to fight Matthysse next year or else he’ll be stripped of his WBC title by the World Boxing Council.

Erik Morales likely to fight once more before retiring

Image: Erik Morales likely to fight once more before retiring(Photo credit: Naoki Fakuda) By Allan Fox: Erik Morales (52-9, 36 KO’s) took yet another loss last Saturday night in losing to WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (25-0, 16 KO’s) by an embarrassing 4th round knockout at the Barclay’s Center, in Brooklyn, New York. The loss was the third in the last four fights for Morales and it’s now more than ever clear that the 36-year-old former four division world champion needs to hang up his gloves so that he doesn’t taint his legacy further.

Morales reportedly will be fighting once before he retires. Morales wants to end his career with a final fight in Mexico. It’s unclear who he’ll be fighting, but it’s pretty obvious that he needs to fight some a little lower ranked than the guys he’s been fighting recently. Morales has now lost twice to Danny Garcia and once to Marcos Maidana. Morales did do a good job of beating Pablo Cesar Cano last year, but he still took an awful lot of punishment in winning that fight.

Broner needs to move up to 140 and fight Danny Garcia

Image: Broner needs to move up to 140 and fight Danny Garcia(Photo credit: Naoki Fakuda) By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBO super featherweight champion Adrien Broner (24-0, 20 KO’s) needs to hurry up and clean out the lightweight division so that he can move up to light welterweight and take out the champions like WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (25-0, 16 KO’s) and Lamont Peterson. Broner has an uninteresting fight against WBC lightweight champion Antonio DeMarco (28-2-1, 21 KO’s) on November 17th at the Boardwalk Hall, in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

HBO will be televising the fight, and while some boxing fans are looking forward to the fight as if it’s going to be a competitive fight, it really won’t be. Broner is going to destroy the skinny, stork-like DeMarco within four or five rounds at best. DeMarco is considered by many to be the best fighter in the lightweight division, at least he was considered to be the best until Broner got there. He’s now second best.

Danny Garcia likely to fight Zab Judah next

Image: Danny Garcia likely to fight Zab Judah nextBy Dan Ambrose: If you were hoping that WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (25-0, 16 KO’s) would get a significant fight next against the likes of Lucas Matthysse, Brandon Rios or Lamont Peterson you might be disappointed to learn that his promoter Richard Schaefer from Golden Boy Promotions is looking to put Garcia in with 34-year-old former two division world champion Zab Judah (42-7, 29 KO’s) next. The casual boxing fans likely won’t understand that Judah isn’t the same fighter he was 10 years ago is pretty well on his way to becoming a shot fighter.

Schaefer said to RingTV “Zab Judah has mentioned his name, so let’s see if he still mentions it. If he does, then that would be an attraction that would sell out Brooklyn right here.”

Garcia destroys Morales in 4th round KO

Image: Garcia destroys Morales in 4th round KO(Photo credit: Naoki Fakuda) By Jim Dower: WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (25-0, 16 KO’s) obliterated former four division world champion Erik Morales (52-9, 36 KOs) with a 4th round knockout on Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. In the 4th, Garcia, 24, landed a picture perfect left hook that connected to the jaw of Morales that sent him down bouncing on the canvas as he landed. The referee then immediately halted the fight.

Morales didn’t see the left hook coming as he was in the process of throwing his own left hook at the time.
