Danny Garcia to fight on August 9th at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York

garcia4By Dan Ambrose: WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (28-0, 16 KO’s) will be back in the ring on August 9th against an opponent still to be determined at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. This could be the last fight for the 26-year-old Garcia before he possibly challenges WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr for his titles next year in May.

It’s possible that Garcia will be moving up to 147 for his August fight in order to get one bout under his belt at this weight for him to get ready for the Mayweather fight.

Viktor Postol would give Danny Garcia a lot of problems

postol6By Dan Ambrose: It looks like WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (28-0, 16 KO’s) is moving up in weight just in time because if he were to keep his WBC title, he’d be soon forced to defend his title against #1 WBC Viktor Postol (26-0, 11 KO’s). After how easily the 5’11” Postol handled #2 WBC Selcuk Aydin (26-3, 19 KO’s) last night in stopping him in the 11th round in a one-sided fashion, Garcia would have a lot of problems with Postol and it’s quite likely he would lose to him if that fight were to be made.

Garcia has talked about vacating his 140 lb. titles but he still hasn’t officially done it. Some boxing fans think he may be a little torn about whether he should take the plunge and move up to 147, because at that weight he wouldn’t have a size advantage over his opponents like he’s had at 140.

Floyd Mayweather, Jr. v. Danny Garcia: A Promotional Masterpiece

garcia4By Shawn Sangster: The purpose of this article is to paint a scene. A scene that is painted on the canvass of reality is with the brush strokes of possibility. The possibility that we will explore is an ideal promotional pairing, however, before we get into that lets look at the current landscape of boxing (the canvass).

With the recent announcement of the Pay Per View numbers coming in at between 750,00-800,000 for the last Pacqiao, and with Pay Per View purchases expected to be around 1 million for the recent Mayweather fight, it is clear that boxing is in need of a boost. While these numbers have not been terrible, they are also not good omens, as the both Mayweather and Pacqiao are on the front lines of the war to keep boxing alive and relevant.

Pacquiao, Khan, Maidana or Garcia: Who should Mayweather fight in September?

may91By Chester Rivers: It seem as though the last three fights of Floyd Mayweather Jr career could also be the toughest he’s faced. My only question is, who should they be against? We at BoxingNews24 would like for you, the public, to participate in a quasi internet poll to see who do you think Mayweather should face in September. You can let your voices be heard through the three social networks (Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest) or by leaving a comment.

There are four fighters whom we feel could be potential Mayweather opponents. We will give the pros and cons of each fighter to help you make up your mind.

1) Marcos Rene Maidana- 35(31)-4 PROS-Maidana just gave Mayweather one of the toughest fights of his career. The outcome of this fight was based on which style you preferred. To the trained eye, Mayweather clearly won the fight by a comfortable margin but to the casual fan Maidana made the fight extremely close.

Matthysse wants rematch with Danny Garcia after Molina fight

Lucas Matthysse(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Dan Ambrose: Lucas Matthysse (34-3, 32 KO’s) is hoping that a win over John Molina (27-3, 22 KO’s) this Saturday night will lead him to a rematch against WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia, according to RingTV. Matthysse was beaten by Garcia in a clinch-filled fight last September on the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez card. Matthysse had been doing well against Garcia despite his running and clinching, but once he caught an elbow in the right eye, it closed his eye and changed the complexity of the fight.

If Matthysse can’t get the rematch against Danny Garcia, he’ll stay at 140 or two or three more fights. Matthysse could face IBF light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson in a rematch or wait around to fight for the vacated WBA and WBC 140lb titles that Garcia vacates, as he plans on moving up to the 147lb division.

Please sir, ‘May” I duck you?

By Jaime Ortega: The art of ducking is nothing new in boxing. Jack Dempsey ducked Afro-American fighters. Sugar Ray Leonard ducked Aaron Pryor. Roy Jones Jr. ducked Steve Collins, and the list goes on and on.

Boxing biggest problems started when fighters decided to become self-promoters. Even though, it was good news for boxers on a financial perspective, it was terrible news for fans and the sport of boxing.

Aydin vs. Postol on 5/17; winner becomes Danny Garcia’s WBC mandatory challenger

aydin12By Dan Ambrose: #1 WBC Viktor Postol (25-0, 10 KO’s) and #2 WBC Selcuk Aydin (26-2, 19 KO’s) will be facing each other in a WBC 140lb eliminator bout on May 17th on the undercard of the HBO televised fight card between Mike Alvarado and Juan Manuel Marquez at the Forum in Inglewood, California. While casual boxing fans in the U.S may not be familiar with Postol, they familiar with Aydin, as his defeats to Jesus Soto Karass and Robert Guerrero have been televised.

Aydin looked incredibly poor in both fights, and it’s strange that the World Boxing Council would still have Aydin so highly ranked after how badly he was beaten in both of those fights.

Danny Garcia: I’m moving up to 147 after one more fight

garcia565By Dan Ambrose: WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (28-0, 16 KO’s) says he’ll be moving up to the welterweight division after making one final title defense at 140 of his WBA and WBC 140lb titles. Garcia struggled to beat Mauricio Herrera by a 12 round majority decision last March in a fight that pretty much the entire world saw Garcia losing. Garcia thinks he won the fight by four rounds, but the fans disagree with him.

Danny’s performance against Herrera isn’t the type that you want to see from a fighter who is about to take a step up in competition against much better opposition than the guys that he’s been facing during his career. That probably won’t stop Danny from getting a big money fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2015, but his chances of success in that fight and in other fights at 147 aren’t looking too good right now.

Saul Alvarez – Adrien Broner – Danny Garcia. Business wise or Family loyalty?

canelo7767By Gerardo Granados: Was it necessary for Danny Garcia to have struggled that much against Mauricio Herrera or could it be possible that if he had have a savvy corner he would have adjusted in order to win convincingly instead of have lost in the eyes of many boxing fans? Garcia is a talented fighter but he might have reached the limit for his trainer to improve his overall boxing skills and if Herrera had been a power puncher instead of a light hitting boxer then Danny could have lost the fight even by stoppage.

Other young lions have struggled and lost his recent fights; Adrien Broner was beaten by brave pressure fighter Marcos Maidana who previously lost to good boxers. Maybe “the problem” was that Adrien thought he could walk down Maidana just as he did when he was a super feather or lightweight, but definitely he had the wrong game plan and never was able to adjust to surpass a brawler using is superior speed and mobility or by establishing a crisp jab.

Garcia-Herrera fight draws big ratings on Showtime

YouTube video
By Allan Fox: Last Saturday’s fight between WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia and Mauricio Herrera reportedly brought in 1.1 million viewers on Showtime, which makes it one of the highest viewed boxing events of the year. The card also had unbeaten heavyweight Deontay Wilder battling Malik Scott in the co-feature bout, and that fight definitely helped the ratings for the card.
