Khan made WBC mandatory challenger to Garcia-Guerrero winner

Image: Khan made WBC mandatory challenger to Garcia-Guerrero winnerBy Scott Gilfoid: In what could prove to be a pointless endeavor, the World Boxing Council has made #1 WBC Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) the mandatory challenger to the winner of the January 23rd fight between Danny Garcia and Roberto Guerrero. Those two fighters will be battling for the vacant WBC welterweight title in their clash at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

Yesterday, the WBC announced that the Garcia vs. Guerrero fight would be for the vacant WBC 147lb title. Khan was leapfrogged by #6 WBC Guerrero for the honor of fighting for the WBC title. However, it really doesn’t matter because Khan has been inactive and he likely would have no to a fight against Garcia if it were offered to him regardless of the WBC title being on the line.

Danny Garcia vs. Robert Guerrero for vacant WBC 147lb title

guerrero55By Dan Ambrose: The World Boxing Council has revealed that unbeaten #2 WBC Danny Garcia (31-0, 18 KOs) and #6 WBC Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (33-3, 18 KOs) will be fighting for the vacant WBC welterweight [147 pound] title when they face each other on January 23 on Premier Boxing Champions on Fox Sports from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. This WBC stripped Floyd Mayweather Jr. of the WBC 147lb title due to him retiring. This past week, the WBA rejected the idea of having the Garcia-Guerrero fight as a title fight for their WBA “super” welterweight title. However, the WBC didn’t feel the same way and is allowing Garcia and Guerrero to fight for their vacant WBC 147lb title.

In addition to Guerrero and Garcia fighting for the vacant WBC welterweight title, the WBC will make the Jermell Charlo vs. John Jackson fight be for the vacant WBC junior middleweight title. This fight makes more sense because Charlo is ranked #1 by the WBC and Jackson #2.

The WBC’s rankings for 154 is a little mixed up, because you can make an argument that Jackson does not rate a No.2 ranking after his knockout loss to Andy Lee.

Danny Garcia: Less than 2 weeks out for Robert Guerrero fight

garcia455By Dan Ambrose: There is less than two weeks to go before the January 23rd fight between former WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny “Swift” Garcia (31-0, 18 KOs) and former two division world champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (33-3-1, 18 KOs) on Premier Boxing Champions on Fox Sports from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

Guerrero, 32, surprised a lot of people recently with his comments about him believing in his mind that Mexicans are better at the sport than Puerto Ricans. The comments have put a lot of pressure on the shoulders of Guerrero, whose career looks to be sinking fast with him having lost 2 out of his last 4 fights.

WBA refuses Danny Garcia vs. Robert Guerrero for vacant super title

garcia6655By Dan Ambrose: According to ESPN Deportes, World Boxing Association president Gilberto Mendoza Jr. has turned down a request from Premier Boxing Champions [PBC] for the WBA Super welterweight title to be up for grabs in the Danny Garcia (31-0, 18 KOs) vs. Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (33-3-1, 18 KOs) fight on January 23rd at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

The WBA reportedly is on the verge of dropping Floyd Mayweather Jr. as their “Super World” welterweight champion due to inactivity and him being retired. The WBA is said to be taking Mayweather’s titles at 147 and 154 at the end of January.

It makes sense that the WBA wouldn’t let the winner of the Guerrero vs. Garcia fight be the new “Super World” champion, because neither of them has done a lot lately in the division.

Why doubting Robert Guerrero for Garcia fight is a mistake!

guerrero45By Hector Gonzalez: Robert Guerrero and Danny Garcia will be facing off January 23rd, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. I’m reading all over the internet how Danny Garcia is the heavy favorite against “The Ghost” Guerrero. Truth be told Guerrero is a fading warrior way past his prime. I, however, believe that he has a solid chance against Garcia.

Reading some of the predictions online, I think that fans are focusing on the wrong things; fans are focusing on Guerrero’s loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Keith Thurman, as opposed to basing it on the skill set that each fighter brings to the ring. Guerrero perhaps will never be a champion again. It’s safe to say that he will end his career as a fading journeymen who should consider retiring in the near future. But let’s also keep in mind, to give perspective, Danny Garcia’s skill level is also unclear, especially after his fight with Mauricio Herrera and Lamont Peterson.

Robert Guerrero: My career is going back to the top!

guerrero4By Dan Ambrose: 33-year-old Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (33-3-1, 18 KOs) doesn’t see his career situation as being in dire shape as he nears his January 23rd fight against unbeaten Danny Garcia (31-0, 18 KOs) at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. California. The Garcia-Guerrero fight will be televised on Premier Boxing Champions on Fox.

Guerrero has lost two out of his last four fights, and many fans believe that Guerrero deserved a loss in his last fight against Aaron Martinez last June. If you count that as a defeat, then Guerrero has lost 3 out of his last 4 fights since 2013. Surprisingly, Guerrero believes that his career isn’t going downhill. He thinks it’s about to start going uphill to where it was in the past when he was a top fighter. It’s been five years since Guerrero last held a world title, when he was the IBF super featherweight champion.

Danny Garcia won’t try to outdo Thurman’s performance against Guerrero

garcia4556By Dan Ambrose: #2 WBC Danny Garcia (31-0, 18 KOs) says his plan isn’t to try and outdo what WBA welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman did in his performance against Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (33-3-1, 18 KOs) when the two of them face each other next month on January 23rd at the Staples Center, in Los Angeles, California.

Thurman totally dominated Guerrero in beating him by a 12 round unanimous decision last March in winning by the scores of 120-107, 118-109 and 118-108 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Thurman knocked Guerrero down in the 9th round and had him badly hurt.

However, Thurman didn’t really start to dominate until the 5th, when he began to use movement to keep from getting hit. In the first four rounds of the fight, Thurman stood directly in front of Guerrero and traded with him, and Thurman took a lot of hard shots.

Rosado: Danny Garcia will blowout Robert Guerrero

garcia74By Dan Ambrose: Fresh off his win over the way past his best 35-year-old Paulie Malignaggi in August of this year, unbeaten #2 WBC welterweight contender Danny Garcia (31-0, 18 KOs) will be fighting next month on January 23rd against 32-year-old #6 WBC Robert Guerrero (33-3-1, 18 KOs) at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

The Garcia-Guerrero fight will be shown on Premier Boxing Champions on Fox. Middleweight Gabriel Rosado sees this fight as a one-sided blowout for the 5’8” Garcia. Rosado doesn’t say why he feels it will be a blow out other than him thinking that Garcia is a super talented fighter.

Garcia didn’t blowout his last opponent Malignaggi or his opponent before that in Lucas Matthysse. The guys that Garcia has blown out in recent years were smaller fighters than himself like little Rod Salka, a lightweight dragged up to welterweight to fight him, and an aging Erik Morales.

Danny Garcia thinks rematch with Khan is PPV worthy

garcia356By Dan Ambrose: #2 WBC 147lb contender Danny Garcia (31-0, 17 KOs) thinks a rematch against #1 WBC Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) is definitely possible in the near future, and he believes the fight would be on pay-per-view if/when it takes place.

Garcia defeated Khan by a 4th round knockout three years ago in 2012, and the two have not come close to facing each other a second time for some reason. However, both guys are with Al Haymon, and Garcia thinks that’s a reason why the fight can take place in the near future.

Garcia has to take career of business next month in his fight against former two division world champion Robert Guerrero (33-3-1, 18 KOs) on January 23rd at the Staples Center, in Los Angeles, California.
