The World Boxing Association is reportedly giving the 35-year-old Caballero 30 days with which to negotiate the fight with the 24-year-old Garcia.

Caballero, 35, recently defeated Jonathan Victor Barros by a 12 round unanimous decision last October, and is already prepared to get back in the ring against at the end of this month on New Year ’s Eve.

By Ronald Peter: When Celestino Caballero (34-2, 23 KO) went to Ontario Canada and Unified the IBF/WBA super bantamweight titles with a impressive KO win over hometown champion Steve Molitor, he believed this put him in line for fights with big names like Juan Manuel Lopez, Yuriorkis Gamboa, Chris John or former 122 pound champ Rafael Marquez, he was sadly mistaken and had to settle for his HBO debut to be against little known Daud Cino Yordan, a fight he easily dominated over a 12 round UD. At 5’11 he presents big problems for anyone at 126 pounds and with the 5’7 Lopez and the 5’5½ Gamboa both being signed to Bob Arum’s Top Rank Promotion, Arum wasn’t eager at all to match his future cash cows with such a dangerous fighter, preferring to take lesser opponents hoping they both stay undefeated for a big money featherweight unification bout sometime next year.

By Jason Kim: WBA Super bantamweight champion Celestino Caballero (34-2, 23 KO’s) will be moving up in weight to super featherweight to take on super featherweight contender Jason Litzau (27-2, 21 KO’s) on the undercard of the clash between WBA/WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez vs. WBO lightweight interim champion Michael Katsidis at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Caballero vs. Litzau fight is bout made necessary because Caballero has had zero luck in trying to get Top Rank fighters Juan Manuel Lopez and Yuriorkis Gamboa to fight him.

By Jim Dower: A welterweight showdown between unbeaten WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto )(26-0, 20 KO’s) and unbeaten welterweight contender Selcuk Aydin (20-0, 15 KO’s) could take place on the undercard of the lightweight championship match-up between WBA/WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez vs. WBO lightweight interim champion Michael Katsidis on November 27th at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. According to Dan Rafael of ESPN, the fight is in the works. Also, WBA bantamweight champion Celestino Caballero could also be on the card against a still to be determined opponent.
Caballero interested in fighting Juan Manuel Lopez in place of Rafael Marquez – Don’t count on it happening
By Matt Stein: WBA super bantamweight champion Celestino Caballero (34-2, 23 KO’s) is reportedly very interested in stepping in for Rafael Marquez to serve as a replacement opponent for World Boxing Organization (WBO featherweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez (29-0, 26 KO’s) for September 18th. However, the chances of that happening are virtually none. Caballero, 34, is being ignored and Lopez is looking fighting someone else in the featherweight division. It won’t be the 5’11” Caballero, you can bet on that. Although Lopez would probably take the fight if it were up to him, but his promoter isn’t going to take the chance of putting him in with a dangerous puncher with the height and reach of Caballero. Arum isn’t going to risk his golden goose against a slugger like Caballero.
