Hearn wants Frampton back at the Odyssey Arena on May 11th

frampton21By Sean McDaniel: EBU super bantamweight champion Carl Frampton (16-0, 11 KO’s) won’t get much time to rest up after his 9th round TKO win over Kiko Martinez last Saturday night. Frampton’s promoter Eddie Hearn is going to keep him busy in 2013, and has plans on having him back at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast on May 11th. He drew a huge crowd for the Martinez fight, and it’s possible he’ll do that again if Hearn can find him a quality fighter.

Hearn wants Frampton to go after the IBF belt. It’s currently vacant but it won’t be after Saturday when Alejandro Lopez faces Jhonatan Romero for the title at the Auditorio Municipal, Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico. Both of those guys are vulnerable fighters, and Hearn sees what many fans see as a potential easy belt for Frampton to pick up without much risk.

Frampton: I’ll fight Quigg one of these days

frampton88By Scott Gilfoid: EBU super bantamweight champion Carl Frampton (16-0, 11 KO’s) didn’t exactly sound motivated when he was asked last night if he would be interested in fighting interim WBA super bantamweight champion Scott Quigg in his next fight.

The look on Frampton’s face spoke volumes, as he immediately froze for a second before he finally spit out this answer: “Hopefully we’ll fight one of these days. It’s what the British people want; it’s bigger than [David] Price – [Tyson] Fury.”

At that point in the conversation, Frampton was quickly cut off by his promoter Eddie Hearn, who started getting animated, saying this and that about how Frampton is a huge star and how he sells out arenas. Hearn ended his frantic monologue with these words “Scott Quigg needs Frampton, that’s the difference.”

Hearn: Frampton is a “superstar” at 122

frampton55By Scott Gilfoid: Eddie Hearn, the promoter for EBU super bantamweight champion Carl Frampton (16-0, 11 KO’s) is already calling the young 5’5” Frampton a superstar in the 122 pound division despite the fact that he struggled in beating Kiko Martinez last night in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Frampton constantly ran and clinched, and ducked below the waist to avoid getting hit. It was constant running and when he wasn’t running, he was clinching.

When Hearn was interviewed after the fight, he was like he was like a broken record, saying “He’s the superstar of the super bantamweight division.”

Superstar, eh? Frampton struggles to beat a 26-year-old Kiko Martinez by running all around the ring for 9 painful to watch rounds, and Hearn is calling him a superstar?

Frampton to fight on May 11th; it won’t be Quigg

frampton24By Scott Gilfoid: Newly crowned EBU super bantamweight champion Carl Frampton (16-0, 11 KO’s) will be back in the ring on May 11th, says his promoter Eddie Hearn, but it probably won’t be against interim WBA super bantamweight champion Scott Quigg because Hearn doesn’t appear all that interested in making that fight based on the comments he made after Frampton’s 9th round TKO win over Kiko Martinez (27-4, 19 KO’s) last Saturday night at the Odyssey Arena, Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom.

Hearn said “The kid [Frampton] is a world beater. He’s going right to the top. We’re already looking at May 11th to be back here. The IBF title; I’d say we’re going to get a shot [at some point in the future], and even the WBC title.

Frampton proves his CRITIC wrong with his one punch knockout over Kiko Martinez

frampton22By Dominic Sauboorah: Carl Frampton just showed how good he is after he knocked out knock out artist EBU super bantamweight champion Kiko Martinez last night at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast. The atmosphere was electric and Frampton was clearly spurred on by the crowd.

The talented Irishman did have to come through some rough times, however showed just how good he is at adjusting to a fight as he ended up landing the better punches and in the 9th caught the Spaniard with a devastating straight right hand that landed flush on Martinez’s chin. Martinez did want to fight on, however his legs deserted him and was unable to continue.

Frampton stops Martinez; Lee defeats Fitzgerald; Selby dominates Lindsay

frampton23By Jim Dower: Carl Frampton (16-0, 11 KO’s) stayed unbeaten on Saturday night in defeating the powerful EBU super bantamweight champion Kiko Martinez (27-4, 19 KO’s) by a 9th round TKO to take his title at the Odyssey Arena, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom.

The fight ended when the 26-year-old Martinez walked into a short right hand from Frampton that sent him down on the canvas. Martinez got back to his feet but was staggering. Realizing that Martinez was too hurt to continue the referee then halted the bout at 2:46 of the round.

British and Commonwealth featherweight champion Lee Selby (14-1, 5 KO’s) totally dominated an over-matched and much smaller Martin Lindsay (20-2, 7 KO’s) in beating him by a lopsided 12 round points unanimous decision by the scores of 118-110, 117-111 and 118-109.

Frampton-Martinez get into a brief argument at weigh-in

By Scott Gilfoid: EBU super bantamweight champion Kiko Martinez and challenger Carl Frampton got into a heated exchange during today’s weigh-in in Belfast, Northern Ireland. After both fighters made the 122 pound weigh-in limit, Martinez, 26, walked up on Frampton and started jawing while waving a flag. It looked pretty contrived to me.

Frampton: The top fighters will notice me if I beat Martinez impressively

frampton3By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten Carl Frampton (15-0, 10 KO’s) is hoping the top fighters in the 122 lb. division will take notice of him if he whips EBU super bantamweight champion Kiko Martinez (27-3, 19 KO’s) this Saturday night at the Odyssey Arena, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom.

Frampton, #9 IBF, #8 WBC, believes he’ll be ready to mix it up with the top echelon of the super bantamweight division by 2014 in fights against the likes of Nonito Donairre and Guillermo Rigondeaux.

Frampton said to Sky Sports News “An impressive win could make the boys at the top of the division stand up and take notice.”

Kiko Martinez: Frampton will run and then I’ll KO him

frampton342By Scott Gilfoid: EBU super bantamweight champion Kiko Martinez (27-3, 19 KO’s) expects the younger and inexperienced Carl Frampton (15-0, 10 KO’s) to be running for survival in their fight on February 9th at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Martinez believes Frampton won’t even try to mix it up with him for fear of getting hurt by something big.

Martinez said to Sky Sports “I feel I will be by knockout…I think Frampton will try to run. I think he’ll box and he won’t go toe-to-toe. I know I’m a lot stronger than him. When I’m in the ring with him, he won’t want to fight me.”

Frampton: I’ll be ready for Donaire and Rigondeaux in 2014

frampton3By Scott Gilfoid: 25-year-old Carl Frampton (15-0, 10 KO’s) figures all he needs is one more year and he’ll be ready to take on WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire and WBA champ Guillermo Rigondeaux for their titles. I’m not sure what precisely will change in a years’ time for the 5’5” Frampton but he seems to believe he’s going to be good enough to compete with them at that time.

Frampton said to the Sportsmole.co.uk “I’m about a year away from challenging one of those guys [Rigondeaux and Donaire], but anyone else I can take on straight away.”

I think it would be scary to imagine Frampton wondering into the ring with either Rigondeaux or Donaire. Heck, I think Abner Mares, Vic Darchinyan, Wilfredo Vazquez Jr., Ricardo Cardoba, and Victor Terrazaz would all do a number on Frampton.
