Is Hopkins Avoiding Dawson?

dawson53603By Jason Kim: If there’s one thing I can’t stand, it’s fighters that avoid taking on other talented opponents. That’s why I’m wondering why Bernard Hopkins (49-5-1, 32 KOs) is choosing not to fight International Boxing Federation light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson (27-0, 17 KOs). It seems that Hopkins’, 44, name has surfaced recently in regards to all kinds of opponents from Tomasz Adamek, Felix Trinidad and now WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch, but the name that is oddly missing is Chad Dawson.

Does Hopkins Have Enough Left to Beat Froch?

froch4544522By Sean McDaniel: As reported earlier today by boxing scribe Dan Rafael, Bernard Hopkins is looking at a possible fight with WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch in July. As the story goes, it seems that Froch’s promoter Mick Hennessy is also interested in his fighter taking on Hopkins, 44, probably knowing that if the bout could be arranged, Froch would make a literal killing in big money against Hopkins. Before this bout was mentioned, Hopkins’ had been rumored to be interested in a fight with 36-year-old Felix Trinidad.

Dan Rafael of ESPN is reporting that he spoke to Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer, who informed him that Hopkins is now interested in fighting Froch, and that Golden Boy matchmaker Eric Gomez has already had a conversation with Froch’s promoter Mick Hennessy about a potential fight between Froch and Hopkins in July.

News – HBO Interested in Dawson vs. Hopkins

dawson32330By Manuel Perez: According to Dan Rafael at ESPN, HBO is interested in putting together a match between International Boxing Federation light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson and 44-year-old Bernard Hopkins. It seems that HBO doesn’t have any interest in showing a bout between light heavyweight contender 40-year-old Glen Johnson and IBF cruiserweight champion Tomasz Adamek. Instead, HBO would much rather see Hopkins face Dawson, who arguably is the best fighter in the light heavyweight division at this time.

Is Trinidad the Best That Hopkins Can Come Up With?

hopkins66649By Dave Lahr: I don’t know what Bernard Hopkins (49-5-1, 32 KOs) is thinking by looking at fighting a rematch with 36-year-old Felix Trinidad (42-3, 35 KOs). Hopkins is supposedly kicking around the idea of fighting Trinidad in November for what, I have no idea. This has got to be one of the worst ideas I think I’ve seen come from a fighter in some time. It reminds me a lot of Joe Calzaghe and his last fight of his career against Roy Jones Jr. I don’t mind a fighter getting a free payday, but when it comes at the expense of boxing fans in terms of a competitive fight, then it bothers me.

williams452353By Chris Williams: Paul Williams (37-1, 27 KOs) is reportedly interested in fighting former middleweight champion Bernard Hopkins (49-5-1, 32 KOs). Hopkins has said that he doesn’t want to fight the younger talents in the sport, because he doesn’t want to take away the future stars in boxing.

Would Calzaghe or Hopkins Fight Paul Williams? Don’t Bet on It!

calzaghe57356By Chris Williams: After beating Winky Wright (51-5, 25 KOs) black and blue last Saturday night at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, Paul Williams (37-1, 27 KOs) has suddenly become the hottest fighters in the welterweight, light middleweight and middleweight divisions. In fact, with Williams 6’2″ height and long reach, there’s no fighter safe from him other than perhaps cruiserweights and heavyweights. Williams mentioned after the fight that he’d be interested in facing an undefeated super middleweight if the fighter would come out of retirement to face him.

Hopkins vs. Adamek Fight Dead on Arrival

hopkins5748By Dave Lahr: According to Dan Rafael of ESPN, the perspective bout between boxing legend Bernard Hopkins (49-5-1, 32 KOs) and IBF cruiserweight champion Tomasz Adamek (37-1, 25 KOs) is dead on arrival, because Main Events and Golden Boy were too far apart in their negotiations. The word is that Golden Boy was only offering Adamek a pitiful flat fee of $500,000 for the fight, which would be split between Adamek and his promotional company Main Events, whereas Hopkins and Golden Boy would get an estimate $4 to $4.5 million for the fight.
