Austin Trout vs. Daniel Dawson next Friday, August 22nd on ESPN2

trout8By Allan Fox: Former WBA junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (26-2, 14 KOs) will be back in the ring this Friday, August 22nd in a fight against #15 WBA Daniel Dawson (40-3-1, 26 KOs) in a scheduled 12 round bout at the Pechanga Resort & Casino, in Temecula, California, USA.

Both fighters can’t afford to lose if they want to keep their top 15 ranking, especially Trout, who has lost his last two fights against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Erislandy Lara. Trout not only lost his fight against Canelo last year in April, but he also lost his WBA title.

Trout-Dawson in August

trout2By Dan Ambrose: Daniel Dawson (40-3-1, 26 KO’s) and former WBA junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (26-2, 14 KO’s) will be fighting in August at the StubHub Center in Carson, California, according to Fightnews.com. Trout’s once promising career as sunk in the mire recently with his back to back losses to Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Erislandy Lara in 2013, and he’s now in situation where he can ill afford another loss.

The Dawson vs. Trout fight could be a WBA junior middleweight eliminator bout with the winner becoming the mandatory challenger to champion Erislandy Lara. That would suit Trout fine because he wants to get a second shot at Lara after losing to him by a 12 round unanimous decision last year.

Lara will dominate Canelo, says Trout

canelo444By Dan Ambrose: Austin Trout is more convinced now than ever that Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (43-1-1, 31 KO’s) is heading for a big loss in two months from now against WBA junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara (19-1-2, 12 KO’s) in their catch-weight fight at 155 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Trout thinks that Lara can and will do everything that Floyd Mayweather Jr. did to Canelo in beating him by a 12 round decision in September of 2013, but Trout thinks that Lara will do a better job because he won’t be trying to mix it up as much as Mayweather did.

Canelo, 23, is training really hard for this fight because he knows what’s at stake if he loses. He could see his career as a pay-per-view fighter sunk in it’s early infancy. The boxing public will put up with a loss or two, but they lose interest when the defeats are bunched up together where they’re happening left and right in a short time period. If Canelo loses to Lara, it’ll be his second defeat in his last three fights.

The question is will boxing fans want to keep paying to see Canelo fight if Lara clowns him? Golden Boy Promotions can drag out Alfredo Angulo again for Canelo to shine against, I’m sure, but he can’t make a career out of beating up on Angulo or that type of fighter.

Trout: Lara will confuse and outbox Canelo, and maybe get robbed

canelo88By Dan Ambrose: Former WBA junior middleweight champion Austin Trout sees Cuban Erislandy Lara (19-1-2) dominating Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (43-1-1, 31 KO’s) in their fight on July 12th, but then possibly getting robbed by the judges rather than getting the victory. Trout feels that Lara will beat Canelo the same way that Floyd Mayweather Jr. did in defeating him last September, but Trout still doubts whether Lara will be giving the victory over the much, much more popular 23-year-old Canelo.

Austin Trout not discouraged by loss to Lara

trout8By Dan Ambrose: Former WBA junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (26-2, 14 KO’s) lost a disappointing 12 round unanimous decision last Saturday night to Erislandy Lara (19-1-2, 12 KO’s) at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York, USA. For Trout, this was his second consecutive loss after having been beaten by Saul “Canelo” Alvarez earlier this year. But what makes this defeat so much tougher on Trout was how easily he was beaten by Lara.

Trout didn’t take a bad beating or anything close to that, but he was definitely out-boxed by Lara. The judges scores showed that pretty clearly with Lara getting the victory by the scores of 118-109, 117-110, 117-110.

Erislandy Lara targeting Canelo Alvarez next

05 Lara vs Trout IMG_2790(Photo credit: Tom Casino/Showtime) By Dan Ambrose: Newly crowned WBA World light middleweight champion Erislandy Lara (19-1-2, 12 KO’s) has set former WBA/WBC light middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez for his next fight after beating former WBA champion Austin Trout (26-2, 14 KO’s) last Saturday night by a 12 round unanimous decision at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Trout didn’t throw enough punches, and this enabled Lara to box his way to a decision by the scores of 118-109, 117-110, 117-110. Trout wishes he could have the fight to do over again, because he would have done things much differently if given a second chance against the Cuban Lara.

Trout faces Lara tonight for vacant WBA 154 lb title

13 All TV fighters IMG_0715(Photo credit: Tom Casino/Showtime) By Dan Ambrose: Austin Trout (26-1, 14 KO’s) will be going after his old title tonight against Erislandy Lara (18-1-2, 12 KO’s) in their fight for the vacant WBA 154 lb. tittle at the Barclays Center in Brookly, New York. Trout lost the belt in a 12 round defeat at the hands of Saul “Canelo” Alvarez last April in a fight that many people felt was a toss up.

Even Floyd Mayweather Jr. felt that the only thing that kept Trout from winning the fight was a knockdown in the 7th. Trout fought a good fight, but was an unlucky with the open scoring and the venue of the fight taking place in San Antonio, Texas, where the crowd was predominately fans of the red-haired Canelo.

Austin Trout ready to reinvent himself against Erislandy Lara

11 Lara and Trout IMG_0738(Photo credit: Tom Casino/Showtime) By Dan Ambrose: Former WBA junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (26-1, 14 KO’s) is ready to bounce back from his controversial decision from last April at the hands of Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and take it out on Cuban Erislandy Lara (18-1-2, 12 KO’s) in their fight this Saturday night on Showtime at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York, USA.

Trout doesn’t have to worry about open scoring or a huge pro-Lara crowd like he did last April with Trout fighting in front of 40,000 Canelo fans at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. As such, Trout can box Lara and fight without having to look over his shoulder at the inflated scoring the judges gave to Canelo.

Austin Trout battles Erislandy Lara on Saturday for vacant WBA 154 lb. title

lara5By Dan Ambrose: Austin Trout (26-1, 14 KO’s) will be fighting for his old WBA junior middleweight title this Saturday night against Erislandy Lara (18-1-2, 12 KO’s) on a fight that will be televised by Showtime from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Trout, 28, lost his WBA title earlier this year in a 12 round decision loss to Saul “Canelo” Alvarez last April in San Antonio, Texas.

Trout has shown a lot of interest in facing Canelo again, but with no luck in getting him to take the rematch. If Trout can win back his WBA title, he’ll be in a good position to face Canelo at some point in the future due to him holding that belt. Canelo will eventually need to turn to him unless he’s going to focus on fighting welterweights and specific middleweights.

Trout: I could’ve done better against Mayweather than Canelo

canelo65By Dan Ambrose: Former WBA junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (26-1, 14 KO’s) wasn’t impressed at all in the way that Saul “Canelo” Alvarez fought Floyd Mayweather Jr. last September in a 12 round decision losing effort. Trout says Canelo’s performance not only made him look bad, but it also made himself look bad because he had lost to Canelo last April, albeit by a decision that Trout didn’t agree with.

Trout said this via Golden Boy Promotions twitter “I kept thinking ‘@caneloOfficial is making us both look bad’ during his fight with Floyd Mayweather. I could’ve done better.”

There’s no question that Trout would have done better than Canelo, because he wouldn’t have made the mistake of going to the ropes for breathers the way that Canelo did on numerous occasions and letting Floyd tee off on him from that position.
