Audley Harrison needs to put up or shut up

audley2122By Steve Davis: After Reading reports that Audley Harrison has called out Dereck Chisora for a future fight, I just had to put pen to paper. Why in the world does Audley Harrison do this to himself and boxing, time and again he calls out fighters gets beat, retires, makes a comeback, calls someone else out, then gets beat again.

It wouldn’t be so bad if he called these fighters out and gave them a decent fight. Just look at the evidence – David Haye L Ko 3, David Price L Ko 1, Deontay Wilder L Ko 1. Hardly the form to call anyone out. It seems that Harrison just wants the payday. Chisora on the other hand hasn’t fought at a high level recently apart from the Malik Scott fight, a fight Chisora was losing and to be honest it shouldn’t have been stopped in his favour.

Audley Harrison wants clash against Dereck Chisora

deontay7By Scott Gilfoid: 42-year-old Audley Harrison (31-7, 23 KO’s) KO’s) is reportedly interested in facing Dereck Chisora (20-4, 13 KO’s) next, and he feels that he can give the 29-year-old Chisora a tough test if given the chance. If nothing else, Harrison thinks that a fight between them can bring in a lot of fans at the Copper Box Arena in London, UK.

With three stoppage losses in his last seven fights, it would seem that Audley would be a terrible match-up for Chisora considering that fans would see it as a mismatch and stay away in droves. But when you look at the pretty poor opposition that Chisora has beaten in his last five fights to supposedly turn his career around, Audley fits in quite nicely with that bunch.

Audley Harrison: Say It Aint So!

harrison564By Olly Campbell: Over the last couple of hours news has been trickling out of yet another (yes, ANOTHER!) possible comeback from dreary, over the hill, 42 year old British heavyweight pantomime villain, Audley “A-Force” Harrison. (31-7, 23KOs).

I usually prefer to write articles of a balanced and objective nature, so you will have to forgive the somewhat sarcastic tone and derisive feel of this piece.

Audley first burst onto the British consciousness back in 2000, having become the first Brit to ever win an Olympic super heavyweight gold medal.

Audley Harrison talking comeback

audley77By Scott Gilfoid: 42-year-old Audley Harrison (31-7, 23 KO’s) apparently hasn’t given up on his hopes of becoming a world heavyweight division because he’s talking about a goal that he has to get to the top, and it looks like he plans on taking a risky path to a world title.

Harrison has been knocked out in the 1st round in two of his last five fights in loses to David Price and Deontay Wilder. But Audley did capture the Prizefighter heavyweight tourney earlier this year in beating a handful of 2nd tier heavyweights, so that might have him thinking he can still find success in the division.

Haye talks Charr, Groves, Froch, Harrison and Fury

YouTube video
By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye is still healing up from his hand injury that he suffered recently in training for his comeback fight against #8 WBC Manuel Charr. Haye’s still not sure how long it’ll be before his hand is healed enough to where he can reschedule the fight, but he’s still interested in facing the wide-bodied Charr.

Audley Harrison to continue his career

harrison22By Scott Gilfoid: Fans of Audley Harrison (31-7, 23 KO’s) might be pleased to know that he plans on continuing his boxing career after having recently said he was going to retire following a nice 70 second 1st round knockout to American heavyweight talent Deontay Wilder last month.

Audley, 41, says he doesn’t want to end his career on a bad note, and who can blame him. He looked terrible getting obliterated in one round by Deontay in front of a large London crowd.

Audley said this about his decision to continue his boxing career: “If I don’t get up and try again, everything I’ve stood for would mean nothing. Setbacks pave the way for comebacks. I believe it so I have to live it and go again…I can’t walk away with that performance [against Deontay]. If I do it would haunt me until I’m old and gray. I got up, they should have let him come to finish me and let me show what I got.”

Lennox: Deontay Wilder needs work on his punching

wilder23By Scott Gilfoid: Former heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis recently got the chance to see unbeaten American heavyweight Deontay Wilder (28-0, 28 KO’s) destroy fellow British heavyweight Audley Harrison in a 1st round knockout in London, UK, and Lewis came away from the experience thinking that the 6’7” Wilder needs work on his punching.

Wilder hurt Audley with his first right hand of the fight, and he then snowed him under with windmill shots until Audley collapsed on the canvas. He got up and the fight was stopped because Deontay had done such a good job with his big power shots, but it looks like Lewis wasn’t all that impressed.

Could Audley Harrison have a career as a trainer?

harrison22By Sean David: Before the inevitable giggles at the thought of heavyweight Audley Harrison entering any type of ring again, just give it a thought.

I have been quite impressed by how many people in the sport have come forward following Audley’s retirement to give him credit, mainly his heart to keep getting back up from knockouts both physical and mental, and most seem to be leaning to the opinion that Audley at one point did indeed possess the skills to make it into the higher tiers of the sport if not the elite level. But for reasons I believe only Audley and perhaps those closest to him know the dizzy heights were never attained, even the man himself has confessed to freezing on occasion.

Audley Harrison announces retirement

audley77By Jamie Eskdale: As British heavyweight Audley Harrison announces his retirement from boxing following a 1st round knockout loss to Deontay Wilder last Saturday night, lets have a look at his career.

Mention Audley Harrison’s name to boxing fans and non boxing fans alike and you would most likely be met with a snicker. ‘A Force’ or A Farce as most people referred to him seemed to have it all but where did it all go wrong?

Audley was a highly accomplished amateur and boasted a record of 46-8. Harrison won Gold at the 1998 Commonwealth games and Gold at the 2000 Sydney Olympics creating a real buzz about him. He was awarded an MBE from the Queen soon after and turned professional landing a reported 10 fight £1,000,000 from the BBC.

A Look Back On Last Weekend’s Boxing

03(Photo credit: Naoki Fakuda) By Shane Newsome: After a highly entertaining week of boxing from a number of counties including three world title fights and a number of our favorite boxers in action, its easy to get lost in the hype and lose track of what is really happening out there so here is your impartial look back on Saturday 27th April 2013 in the world of boxing.

And we start our journey in Sheffield, Yorkshire, UK and the main event Amir Khan (28-3) vs Julio Diaz (40-8-1) here was another night that Bolton’s Amir Khan should have made easy work of a lesser opponent though instead we had ourselves yet another night of hearts beating, on the edge of our seats watching a technically sound offensive boxer holding on for dear life after being caught time and time again through defensive frailties.
