Arum wrapping up Arthur Abraham vs. Gilberto Ramirez for Pacquiao-Bradley card

ramirez78By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is on the verge of finishing up on a deal that will see unbeaten #1 WBO Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (33-0, 24 KOs) facing WBO super middleweight champion Arthur “King Arthur” Abraham (44-4, 29 KOs) in the co-feature bout on the April 9 undercard of the Manny Pacquiao vs. Timothy Bradley 3 card on HBO pay-per-view.

The fight card will be staged at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Arum wants to load the undercard of the Pacquiao-Bradley fight with Mexican talent, and the 24-year-old Ramirez is just one of the names that Arum is looking to put on the card.

Besides that Abraham-Ramirez fight on the undercard, former IBF featherweight champion Evgeny Gradovich will be facing two-time Mexican Olympian Oscar Valdez in a 10 round fight. Also on the card is 2012 U.S. Olympian Jose Carlos Ramirez (16-0, 12 KOs) facing journeyman Manuel Perez (25-11-1, 6 Kos) in a 10 round bout.

Sauerland wins Abraham-Ramirez purse bid

ramirez78By Chris Williams: In bad news for the Manny Pacquiao vs. Tim Bradley fight card for April 9th, promotional company Sauerland Events has won Wednesday’s purse bid in beating Top Rank’s bid to stage the title fight between WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (44-4, 29 KOs) and the Top Rank fighter Gilberto Ramirez (33-0, 24 KOs). Sauerland won the purse bid with a winning bid of $1, 563, 057 compared to Top Rank’s $1.5 million.

The Abraham-Ramirez fight could still wind up on the Pacquiao vs. Bradley 3 card, but it might be difficult to make that happen unless there’s enough money to go around for Abraham. If not, then the Abraham-Ramirez fight will be staged in Berlin, Germany on 4/9.

It’s important that Top Rank promoter Bob Arum get the Abraham vs. Ramirez fight for the Pacquiao-Bradley card, because they need a strong undercard to help interest the boxing fans to purchase the card on HBO PPV.

Abraham: Wladimir beats Fury in rematch

wladimir44By Scott Gilfoid: WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham is saying that he believes 39-year-old Wladimir Klitschko (64-4, 53 KOs) will come out victorious in his recent with Britain’s Tyson Fury (25-0, 18 KOs) in 2016 to avenge his loss from last November and recapture some of his lost world titles in the process.

Abraham thinks that Wladimir just had a bad day when he fought Fury last year, but this time he’s going to be better prepared for the things that Fury does in the ring so that he can win back his IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight titles.

If Wladimir wants to win back his IBF title, he’ll need to fight the winner of this Saturday’s fight between Charles Martin and Vyacheslav Glazkov, because they’ll be fighting for the vacant IBF title on the undercard of the Deontay Wilder vs. Artur Szpilka fight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Arthur Abraham – Gilberto Ramirez purse bid this Friday

ramirez78By Dan Ambrose: The promoters for WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (44-4, 29 KOs) and #1 WBO mandatory challenger Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (33-0, 24 KOs) have been unable to negotiate a deal for their fight, which Ramirez’s promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank would like to take place on April 9th on the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao vs. Tim Bradley fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

If Top Rank and Sauerland Events, the promoters for the 35-year-old Abraham, are unable to come up with a deal, then there is a purse bid tentatively scheduled for this Friday, according to Dan Rafael. The minimum bid will be $300K.

Arum wants the Abraham-Ramirez fight to be the co-feature bout on the Pacquiao-Bradley 3 card. It’s a fight that makes a lot more sense for that spot than Arum trying to schedule a fight between heavyweights Ike Ibeabuchi and Andy Ruiz.

Arthur Abraham vs. Gilberto Ramirez possible for Pacquiao-Bradley undercard

abraham6By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is really looking to beef up the undercard of the April 9th Manny Pacquiao vs. Tim Bradley 3 fight card on HBO pay-per-view at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The latest fight that Arum is hoping to add to the undercard for the fight is a showdown between unbeaten #1 WBO Gilberto Ramirez (33-0, 24 KOs) and WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (44-4, 29 KOs).

Arum believes that the 24-year-old Ramirez can become popular like Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. Thus far, however, Ramirez remains a flawed fighter with an inflated resume of wins over weak opponents. Ramirez looks nowhere near the talent level of the 25-year-old Canelo.

My boxing awards: 2015

Floyd Mayweather JrBy Gav Duthie: As 2015 draws to a close we assess what boxing gave us for the year. Lots of big fights came to fruition that has passed us by in previous years and the promotional landscape changed dramatically with the emergence of PBC. This article discusses 10 different points to summarize the year.

1. Fighter of the year

Arthur Abraham

When looking into this I even surprised myself with my choice. Abraham wouldn’t even be a top 25 P4P fighter but he has had a tremendous year.

Abraham decisions Martin Murray – results

By Scott Gilfoid: As I predicted, WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (44-4, 29 KOs) defeated a constantly clinching #8 WBO challenger Martin Murray (32-3-1, 15 KOs) by a 12 round split decision on Saturday night at the TUI Arena in Hannover, Germany. If Murray would have stopped clinching 24/7, he would have had a chance to win the fight. But it was a huge mistake on Murray’s part to use clinching as a tactic in the fight because it was painfully obvious that he was interrupting the flow of the fight with his constant grabbing and holding.

Martin Murray doomed against Arthur Abraham

YouTube video

By Scott Gilfoid: I hate to completely rule out a victory for #8 WBO Martin Murray (32-2-1, 15 KOs) for his fight tonight against WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (43-4, 29 KOs), but I just don’t see how on Earth that the light hitting 33-year-old Murray is going to be able to win this fight at the TUI Arena in Hannover, Germany.

For Murray to have a chance to win, he’ll need to stop running and stand his ground and beat Abraham in a dog fight. But without the needed punching power or chin to fight that kind of fight, Murray is going into battle with six empty chambers in the cylinder.

For his part, the 35-year-old Abraham came in at 168lbs exactly on the super middleweight limit.

Froch: Abraham will be a hard fight for Martin Murray

1-abraham murray (2)By Scott Gilfoid: Former world champion Carl Froch expects #10 WBO Martin Murray (32-2-1, 15 KOs) to have a really difficult time trying to beat WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (43-4, 29 KOs) in their fight this Saturday night at the TUI Arena in Hannover, Germany.

Froch believes that it’s a winnable fight for the 33-year-old Murray, but still a hard one potentially due to Abraham’s punching power. Froch thinks that Murray needs to outwork the 35-year-old Abraham to have a chance of winning the fight. In other words, Murray needs to try and do what Paul Smith attempted in his first fight by Abraham by being the busier fighter, and then hoping that the judges will ignore Abraham’s much more powerful shots in order to win a decision.
