By Dan Ambrose: Super middleweight contender Arthur Abraham is picking Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs) to easily beat Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (49-1-1, 34 KOs) in their BIG fight on September 16 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Abraham likes both fighters, but he sees Golovkin as the best middleweight in the division today.

Chris Eubank Jr. defends against Arthur Abraham on July 15

Image: Chris Eubank Jr. defends against Arthur Abraham on July 15

By Scott Gilfoid: Earlier today, the news of the July 15 fight between IBO super middleweight champion Chris Eubank Jr. and Arthur Abraham was officially announced. Eubank Jr. will be defending his International Boxing Federation 168-pound title against former 2 division world champion Abraham at the Wembley Arena in London, England. This is a fight that Abraham can win if he throws enough punches. Abraham is the harder puncher and then more experienced fighter of the two. However, Eubank Jr. has the higher volume fighting style, which will make it tough for Abraham unless he can knock him out.

By Scott Gilfoid: In separate venues tonight, four-time world title challenger Martin Murray (34-4-1, 16 KOs) faces Gennady Golovkin knockout victim Gabriel Rosado (23-10, 13 KOs) in Liverpool, England, and former 2-division world champion Arthur Abraham (45-5, 30 KOs) squares off against Robin Krasniqi (46-5, 17 KOs) in Germany. It’s a couple of neat fights. I wouldn’t say it’s the best going against the best, but these are good fringe level contenders fighting each other.

Arthur Abraham suffers injury, Martin Murray fight is off

1-abraham murray (1)

By Scott Gilfoid: In not surprising news, the soon to be 37-year-old former two division world champion Arthur Abraham (45-5, 30 KOs) has suffered an injury, and he won’t be able to fight a rematch against fringe contender Martin Murray (33-4-1, 16 KOs) on November 12 at Monte Carlo.

The German based Abraham suffered an injury during sparring, and won’t be able to fight the 34-year-old Murray in a rematch. It’s just as well, because it wasn’t a huge fight by any means, as Murray has lost two out of his last three fights. One of those loses was to Abraham in November of last year in losing a 12 round split decision.

Luis Ortiz vs. Malik Scott on November 12

1-OrtizLocker Room_Hoganphotos

By Scott Gilfoid: New Matchroom Sport signee heavyweight Luis “King Kong” Ortiz (25-0, 20 KOs) will have an easy first fight with his new promoter Eddie Hearn in facing #9 WBC Malik Scott (38-2-1, 13 KOs) on November 12 at the Salle des Étoiles, in Monte Carlo. Ortiz and Scott will be fighting for the vacant World Boxing Association Inter-Continental heavyweight title. It’s not a great fight though.

Scott, 35, has lost two out of his last four fights in knockout losses to Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder and Dereck Chisora. I’m not sure why Scott is still ranked in the top 10 after losing those fights. You would think that the losses would have knocked Scott out of the top 15 altogether.

Martin Murray vs. Arthur Abraham possible for November 12

1-abraham murray (2)

By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (45-5, 30 KOs) and Martin Murray (33-4-1, 16 KOs) will be reportedly facing each other in a rematch on November 12 at Salle Des Etoiles, in Monaco. Abraham, 36, defeated Murray by a 12 round split decision in November of 2015. Now they’ll be facing each other again. Murray is currently ranked at #13 by the WBC at 158. A second loss to Abraham could knock Murray completely out of the top 15. That would be a huge career blow for the 34-year-old.

It’s unclear what’s at stake with this fight, but it’s not hard to guess that the winner of the fight will likely wind up facing WBO super middleweight champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (34-0, 24 KOs) for his World Boxing Organization 168lb title. Abraham was whipped by Ramirez last April on the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao vs. Tim Bradley card on HBO pay-per-view at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
