Ortiz vs. Kotelnik not likely to happen – News

By Dan Ambrose: For boxing fans hoping to see a fight between former WBA light welterweight champion Andriy Kotelnik (31-4-1, 13 KO’s) and top light welterweight contender Victor Ortiz (28-2-1, 22 KO’s) for the December 11th Amir Khan vs. Marcos Maidana card, you can pretty much forget about it. Apparently, Kotelnik and Ortiz’s promoters haven’t had any luck in putting this fight together because the money isn’t right. Instead of fighting Ortiz, the 32-year-old Kotelnik may end up fighting either number #1 ranked IBF light welterweight contender Kaizer Mabuzza or EBU lightweight champion John Murray next. Kotelnik at least would have a chance at beating one of those fighters.

Victor Ortiz vs. Andriy Kotelnik in the works for Khan-Maidana HBO card on December 11th

By Jim Dower: Dan Rafael is reporting that that a fight between former World Boxing Association (WBA) light welterweight champion Andriy Kotelnik (31-4-1, 13 KO’s) and the hard hitting American Victor Ortiz (28-2-1, 22 KO’s) is in the works for the December 11th fight card with WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan vs. Marcos Maidana at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. This would be great news if this fight happens, although it’s far from a truly great fight. It’s at least better than matching Ortiz against a B level fighter.

Kotelnik and Maidana possible opponents for Berto in the fall

Image: Kotelnik and Maidana possible opponents for Berto in the fallBy Jim Dower: World Boxing Council welterweight champion Andre Berto (26-0, 20 KO’s) could be facing either light welterweights Andriy Kotelnik or Marcos Maidana in the fall, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN. HBO wants to see Maidana fight Berto for some reason, but it’s somewhat odd that Berto is being continuously matched against light welterweights instead of fighters from his own welterweight weight class. If Berto ends up fighting Maidana or Kotelnik, this would be the third light welterweight that Berto has fought in the last five bouts dating back to 2008. At this point, there’s really no reason for Berto to continue to campaign as a welterweight. He might as well move down to light welterweight and continue as he’s been going fighting light welterweights.

Timothy Bradley not impressed with Alexander’s win over Kotelnik – News

Image: Timothy Bradley not impressed with Alexander’s win over Kotelnik - NewsBy Matt Stein: World Boxing Organization light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (26-0, 11 KO’s) wasn’t very impressed with IBF/WBC light welterweight champion Devon Alexander’s performance last Saturday night in beating Andriy Kotelnik by a 12 round unanimous decision in Saint Louis, Missouri. Bradley, 26, has been easily beating his opponents for the last couple of years and not having any problems even against the top fighters in the division. Bradley, after seeing the way that Alexander struggled to beat Kotelnik by a controversial decision, had this to say in an interview at boxingtalk.com: “I wasn’t too impressed with this fight. If Kotelnik did that against him [Alexander], imagine what I am going to do to Alexander.”

Alexander gives himself a D- for Kotelnik bout and says he’ll be better for Bradley fight

Image: Alexander gives himself a D- for Kotelnik bout and says he’ll be better for Bradley fightBy Jim Dower: As IBF/WBC light welterweight champion Devon Alexander (21-0, 13 KO’s) likes to say, he’s his own worst critic. Alexander defeated former WBA junior middleweight champion Andriy Kotelnik last Saturday night in front of a home audience at the Scottrade Center, in Saint Louis, Missouri, winning a 12 round unanimous decision by the judge’s scores of 116-112, 116-112 and 116-112. Alexander didn’t look good at all and should consider himself very lucky to have won the fight. Although there are a certain amount of boxing fans that feel that Alexander did more than enough to get the win, there seems to be an even larger amount that feel that he should have lost the fight.
