Andre Dirrell wants DeGale after Caparello fight

dirrell55665By Scott Gilfoid: #5 IBF, #5 WBC Andre Dirrell (24-2, 16 KOs) has to take care of business on Friday night with his 10 round fight against Blake Caparello (22-1-1, 6 KOs) on Premier Boxing Champions on Fox from the Trump Taj Mahal, in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Dirrell, 32, plans on beating Caparello and then going on to avenge his loss to IBF super middleweight champion James DeGale after that. Dirrell lost to DeGale last year by a close 12 round unanimous decision by the scores of 114-112, 117-109 and 114-112.

The loss didn’t sit so well with Dirrell, as he wants to get DeGale back into the ring to prove who the better fighter is. Dirrell doesn’t care if he has to travel to the UK to make the fight happen. He wants that fight.

Lamont Peterson vs. Felix Diaz Jr. & Andre Dirrell vs. Blake Caparello on October 17th

dirrell6666By Scott Gilfoid: After narrowly losing a 12 round majority decision to Danny Garcia last May in a catch-weight fight at 143 pounds, former IBF light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson (33-3-1, 17 KOs) will be trying his hand at welterweight (147) against 2008 Olympic light welterweight gold medalist Felix Diaz Jr. (17-0, 8 KOs) next month in a 12 round fight on Premier Boxing Champions on NBC from the EagleBank Arena at the George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.

Peterson, 31, looked sensational in his last fight in moving up to welterweight to give Garcia all he could handle for 12 rounds. Peterson put on an excellent display of taking the fight to Garcia and punishing him with power shots to the body and head.

Dirrell says rematch against DeGale is big possibility

dirrell55665By Scott Gilfoid: #8 IBF 168lb contender Andre Dirrell (24-2, 16 KOs) says his adviser Al Haymon is telling him that a rematch with IBF super middleweight champion James DeGale (21-1, 14 KOs) is a big possibility. DeGale, 29, has been out of the ring for three months since his very, very close 12 round unanimous decision win over Dirrell last April, and he still hasn’t fought an opponent.

DeGale’s promoter Eddie Hearn was hoping to get him back into the ring by September or October, but thus far he’s come up empty in terms of opponents. Mikkel Kessler and Lucian Bute were two of the names that had been floated around for DeGale’s first title defense, but Kessler has retired and Bute is scheduled to fight on August 15th.

Golovkin would lose to Hopkins and Ward, says Kenny Porter

golovkin7744By Scott Gilfoid: Kenny Porter, the trainer for former IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter, sees IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) as not being an unstoppable force that can’t be beat, or can’t be stopped from his seven year knockout streak that he’s had going since 2008.

Porter specifically names the following fighters that can either beat Golovkin or give him some serious problems inside the ring: Andre Dirrell, Andre Ward, and Bernard Hopkins. Porter feels that Hopkins and Ward would straight beat Golovkin, and he also thinks that Dirrell would give him major problems as well.

Round up of a month of boxing and potential match-ups to look forward too

golovkinBy HK: Well it has been quite a successful and exciting month of boxing, especially from a British perspective. We now have four fully fledged British world champions, who all hold the IBF version of the title. James DeGale (Super-Middleweight), Kell Brook (Welterweight), Lee Selby (Featherweight) and Carl Frampton (Super Bantamweight).

Although these haven’t all come from within the space of one month it is nonetheless extremely encouraging to see British fighters consistently challenging at world level. This coupled with the various interim and regular titles held by British fighters and British boxing could not be in a better place right now.
