Shocking News: Khan vs Barrera!

barrera334By Simon Hirst: Frank Warren seems to have pulled a rabbit out of the hat in landing Lightweight prospect Amir Khan a huge fight against former three-weight world champion Marco Antonio Barrera. This is a huge fight for a fighter coming off a shock first round knockout some six months ago.

The Mexican, who is scheduled to fight Nate Campbell later this year, has a wealth of experience after a trilogy with Erik Morales and his two fights with Manny Pacquaio. He is also famous for being the first man to beat Britain’s own Prince Naseem Hamed. Of course, he is not the same fighter as these wars have took a lot out of him, but he should still prove to be a tough opponent for Amir Khan.

Would Khan Stand A Better Chance Against Prescott In a Rematch?

khan544676By Chris Williams: Since losing to Breidis Prescott (20-0, 18 KOs) by a 1st round TKO in September, lightweight contender Amir Khan (19-1, 15 KOs) has taken a tremendous amount of heat from boxing fans, a lot of whom have given up on him, seeing him as too fragile-chinned to become a champion in the lightweight division. Khan, 22, though, still has designs on avenging his defeat to Prescott, saying to The Sun “the fight will happen in the future again… and I will beat him technically and with my brains this time.”

The second round saw more of the same, with Kahn landing at will and Referee Micky Vann stepped in to end what was a very one-sided affair.

British Fight Night Feast

Image: British Fight Night FeastBy Simon Hirst: Whilst tonight is going to remember as the ‘dream match’ between Pac Man and the Golden Boy, for British fans, there are also a lot of good British fights. I know that we have been treated to fights from Britain’s big three throughout November, but for four big British fights to happen on the same night means a big night for British boxing.

In no particular order, I’ll start with Amir Khan’s fight. He takes on the Irish-American Oisin Fagan, who despite a couple of losses, is a decent fighter. Some of the losses on his record have been controversial, his most notable loss coming to Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, who Wayne McCullough felt he deserved at least a draw.

Will Sparring With Pacquiao Help Khan For Fagan?

Image: Will Sparring With Pacquiao Help Khan For Fagan?By Dan Ambrose: Previously undefeated Amir Khan (18-1, 14 KOs) comes into this Saturday’s fight with a lot of pressure on him for his battle against Oisin Fagan (22-5, 13 KOs) at the ExCel Arena, Dockland, in London. Khan has replaced his trainer Jorge Rubio and added American trainer Freddie Roach in his place. It’s difficult to say whether Roach, a trainer known mainly for specializing in teaching sound offensive skills rather than defensive, will have much effect on Khan’s still developing boxing skill.
