Did Roach Rebuild Khan or is it a Mirage?

khan435By Scott Gilfoid: Light welterweight Amir Khan’s career has turned completely around since his 1st round knockout loss to Breidis Prescott last year. Khan, 22, has rebounded from that defeat with wins over Oisin Fagan, Marco Antonio Barrera and Andriy Kotelnik. The later victory gave Khan the WBA light welterweight title, which is something for him to be proud given his young age.

Hatton Still Interested in Khan Fight, But Don’t Hold Your Breath Waiting for it to Happen

By Eric Thomas: Ricky Hatton (45-2, 32 KO’s) is still interested in fighting World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Amir Khan (21-1, 15 KO’s), but it doesn’t look like it’s going to be happening any time soon, if ever, because of Hatton’s desire to promote the fight. That’s not probably not going to happen, so unless Hatton gives up on that idea, we won’t be seeing this fight in near future.

Warren Interested in Bradley vs. Khan – News

khan342By Scott Gilfoid: World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Amir Khan’s promoter Frank Warren is intrigued with a potential unification bout against WBO light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (25-0, 12 KO’s). However, Warren prefers that the fight take place next year from now when Khan has built his name more. That’s a good thing for Khan, because Warren is correct that the fight wouldn’t mean as much now as it will a year from now when U.S. audiences are more aware of who Khan is.

Don’t Count on Khan Fighting Bradley

By Scott Gilfoid: Promoter Frank Warren hinted earlier today about a unification bout between WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan and WBO champion Timothy Bradley. Khan, 22, recently defeated Ukrainian Andriy Kotelnik by a 12 round decision last month on July 18th to win Kotelnik’s World Boxing Association title.

Who Should Khan fight next?

khan4343By Harlan Davies: After Khan’s landslide, one-sided schooling of Andriy Kotelnik there seems to be an even bigger host of possible opponents for the young star in the talent-ridden light-welter division. There are many big fights that could and should happen but as we all know, not every plausible fight happens. Khan will be enticed to keep momentum with his securing of the WBA belt so who should Khan target next? This question remains an enigma but let’s examine the four main possibilities for the new champ.

Hatton vs Khan – Why Ricky wins all day long

hatton35By Liam Santiago: I was delighted to see Amir Khan crowned WBA champion last month. He proved any critics wrong and won very comfortably, however, he did show flaws and weaknesses that other fighters would have capitalised on. After the win, once again we heard Khan and his trainer claim they would ‘relish’ a fight with Manchester legend Ricky Hatton. This is the first time I have to strongly disagree with Freddie Roach. Khan is no Pacquiao and Kotelnik is no Hatton.

Amir Khan Undeserving of a Fight with Hatton

khan223344By Liam Santiago: Does Amir Khan really have the right to call out Ricky Hatton? What has he done to deserve the biggest payday he will ever get? Boxing is a sport where you work your way up, earning the right to mega fights. Ricky Hatton certainly did that but I can’t quite see where Bolton man Amir Khan has. Yes, He outpointed Andriy Kotelnik last month and he has beaten an old, fading legend in Marco Antonio Barrera. But what else?

Is Khan the Worst of the Light Welterweight Champions?

By Scott Gilfoid: Previously, World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Andriy Kotelnik was considered by many to be the weakest of the light welterweight champions. Even Amir Khan said that he felt that Kotelnik was the weakest of the bunch, which is probably why Khan went after him in the first place rather than take on WBO champion Timothy Bradley or IBF title holder Juan Urango.

Khan to vacate his WBA title Rather than Facing Maidana?

By Scott Gilfoid: According to the latest news from Boxing Monthly, there is talk that World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Amir Khan (21-1, 15 KO’s) will vacate his WBA title if he’s forced by the WBA to fight interim champion Marcos Maidana (26-1, 25 KO’s). How come I’m not surprised? Apparently, Khan’s trainer Freddie Roach doesn’t want Khan to fight Maidana next, and prefers to go after better (easier) opponents like Erik Morales instead.

Witter Loses Chance For Khan Bout

By Sean McDaniel: With Junior Witter’s quit job against Devon Alexander last Saturday night, it effectively rules out a unification fight between Witter and World Boxing Association (WBA) light welterweight champion Amir Khan (21-1, 15 KO’s) for the near future and perhaps permanently. Witter, 35, had been aiming for Khan before the Alexander bout, saying that he would knock the 22-year-old Khan within three rounds.
