By Dan Ambrose: WBA/WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez (51-5-1, 37 KO’s) has a big decision to make as to who he wants to fight next – WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) or WBO lightweight interim champion Michael Katsidis (27-2, 22 KO’s). Marquez, 36, is likely going to take whichever fight brings him the most money unless the two are really close. In that case, you can expect that Marquez will take the less risky fight against the 30-year-old Katsidis rather than take a riskier fight against the much bigger and younger Khan.

By William Mackay: You can usually expect a trainer to have a certain amount of loyalty and confidence about his or her particular fighters, but trainer Freddie Roach’s confidence toward his fighter World Boxing Association (WBA) light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) borders on the extreme.
Maidana the second option for Khan if Amir can’t fight Marquez on December 4th
By William Mackay: World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Marcos Maidana (28-1, 27 KO’s) is supposedly the second option for WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) if his proposed fight against lightweight Juan Manuel Marquez falls through for December 4th. Right now, it’s looking like that fight will happen, but Maidana is the supposed to be the second option for Khan, according to the latest boxing news. My question is why is Maidana always the second option for Khan? Shouldn’t Maidana be the first option by now? He’s already been waiting over a year and still hasn’t gotten even close to a fight with Khan.

By Dan Ambrose: WBO light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (26-0, 11 KO’s) will be looking to take IBF/WBC Devon Alexander’s titles when/if they meet up in January 2011. Bradley really wants that fight and will be looking to take Alexander’s titles and move up as one of the biggest stars in boxing. After that fight, Bradley really wants to go after WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan, who Bradley has been chasing after for some time now without success.
Khan wants Marquez fight to take place in the UK
By Jason Kim: World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) reportedly wants WBA/WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez (51-5-1, 37 KO’s) to have to travel all the way to the UK to fight in front of Khan’s home crowds rather than Khan fighting Marquez in a neutral country like the United States. Khan, 23, feels that since he’s holds the title that Marquez wants, then Khan should be the one fighting in front of his home crowd. As of now, it’s unclear whether Marquez will take the fight with Khan or not. Golden Boy Promotions, who promotes both Khan and Marquez, really wants the fight badly, as does HBO.
Will Khan ever fight Maidana?
By William Mackay: Both WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) and his famous trainer Freddie Roach like to point out that WBA light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana (28-1, 27 KO’s) would lose if he were to fight Khan, yet for some reason Khan hasn’t stepped up to the plate to actually shown that he can beat the hard hitting Maidana. Instead of fighting Maidana, Khan has fought Dmitri Salita and Paulie Malignaggi since capturing the World Boxing Association light welterweight title last year with a 12 round decision win over Andriy Kotelnik. Now would be the perfect time for Khan to finally fight Maidana.

By William Mackay: World Boxing Association (WBA) light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) prefers to be fighting lightweight Juan Manuel Marquez in December. However, if Marquez opts to stay at lightweight and fight WBO lightweight interim champion Michael Katsidis instead, then the 23-year-old Khan will have to settle for fighting either Marcos Maidana or Victor Ortiz. In an interview at the BBC.co.uk, Khan says “I’m looking Marquez, Maidana or Victor Ortiz in December. I always promised the fans that I’m going to bring big fights to England and that’s what I’m hoping for. “
Could Amir Khan already be the best of the light welterweights?
By Sean McDaniel: It’s to believe but World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Amir Khan may already be the best fighter in the light welterweight division after only three fights at that weight class. It’s hard to believe because Khan looked so horrible in getting knocked out in the 1st round by the very average Breidis Prescott two years ago in 2008. Khan hasn’t anything to avenge that defeat, but he’s done a good job of winning his fights since then, albeit against non lethal punchers. Khan has looked great in beating Andriy Kotelnik, Dmitri Salita and Paulie Malignaggi.

By Dan Ambrose: World Boxing Association (WBA) light welterweight champion Amir Khan’s one-sided 12 round unanimous decision win over Andriy Kotelnik last year is now looking more and more impressive after Kotelnik fought IBF/WBC junior welterweight champion Devon Alexander to a standstill on Saturday night at the Scottrade Center, in Saint Louis, Missouri. Alexander was out-landed by Kotelnik and landed the harder shots. However, Alexander threw more punches, but still ended up landing 20+ less shots compared to Kotelnik.

By William Mackay: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer has a back-up plan just in case WBA/WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez decides not to fight World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Amir Khan on December 11th on HBO, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN. Schaefer would then substitute either Victor Ortiz or Marcos Maidana in Marquez’s case.
