Khan isn’t the Wladimir Klitschko of the light welterweight division

Image: Khan isn’t the Wladimir Klitschko of the light welterweight divisionBy William Mackay: When fans of WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) give their reasons why they see the 23-year-old Khan succeeding in the future and becoming a huge super star despite having a problems taking hard shots, they often point out that IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko has had great success in his career with an equally bad chin. It’s impossible to compare Khan to Klitschko, however, because Klitschko has an enormous height and reach advantage over most of his opponents, and that really helps Klitschko to avoid getting hit. Khan is tall for a light welterweight at 5’10”, but he’s not that much taller than his opposition.

Warren thinks Khan isn’t ready for Mayweather Jr.

Image: Warren thinks Khan isn't ready for Mayweather Jr.By Sean McDaniel: Frank Warren thinks WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) isn’t ready for a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. at this early point in Khan’s boxing career. Warren should know better than anyone, since he’s the one that has promoted Khan for most of his pro career up until recently when Khan moved over to Golden Boy Promotions. In an article at Thesun.co.uk, Warren said “Khan is making a name at light welterweight, but it is a good division and he has not proved he is number #1 yet. To fight Mayweather he might have to go to light middleweight, which would put him at a severe disadvantage.”

Has Khan’s weak chin improved enough to keep him upright against Maidana?

Image: Has Khan's weak chin improved enough to keep him upright against Maidana?By William Mackay: WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) supposedly has built up a better punch resistance since moving up to the light welterweight division, at least that’s what Khan’s biggest supporters have been saying. Frankly, I think it’s hogwash. I don’t believe a fighter’s chin can improve over time. If anything, it gets worse as they take more and more punishment. It wouldn’t be such a big deal if Khan wasn’t facing knockout artist Marcos Maidana (29-1, 27 KO’s) in his next fight on December 11th, at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Does Maidana need a knockout to beat Khan?

Image: Does Maidana need a knockout to beat Khan?By William Mackay: As much as I’d like to think that WBA light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana (29-1, 27 KO’s) can go into the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino and earn a 12 round decision over World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s), I think it might take a knockout to get the win in their fight on December 11th. Sometimes there are fighters that are more than equal and who count for more boxing world when they’re seen as a cash cow or a potential cash cow.

John Murray wants to make a name for himself agaisnt Khan, Marquez or Katsidis

Image: John Murray wants to make a name for himself agaisnt Khan, Marquez or KatsidisBy Sean McDaniel: EBU lightweight champion John Murray (30-0, 18 KO’s) wants the big fights against fighters like Amir Khan, Juan Manuel Marquez, Humberto Soto and Michael Katsidis after toiling away for the past seven years in the pro ranks. Murray, 25, will likely be getting a title shot in the near future against either Soto or the winner of the Marquez-Katsidis bout. However, Murray is being lured into fighting on the undercard of Khan’s December 11th card against twice beaten light welterweight contender Victor Ortiz.

Roach: “Amir’s the next boxing super star”

Image: Roach: "Amir's the next boxing super star"By William Mackay: Trainer Freddie Roach thinks that his fighter WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) can be the next big star in boxing, but Roach end up having egg smeared all over his face if Khan is destroyed in his next fight against Marcos Maidana on December 11th, at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, in Las Vevas, Nevada. Roach says “Amir’s the next boxing super star,” in an article at Philstar.com. “He listens very well, like Manny [Pacquiao, Roach’s prized pupil]. He’s a good student. He’s got heart, speed, power and brains.” Roach may very well be right about most of those things, but what Khan may not have is a chin, and if he can’t take major shots, he won’t be boxing’s next super star.

Khan says he’ll fight Murray if he beats Victor Otiz on the Khan-Maidana undercard

Image: Khan says he'll fight Murray if he beats Victor Otiz on the Khan-Maidana undercardBy William Mackay: WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) gave fellow Brit EBU lightweight champion John Murray (30-0, 18 KO’s) a bit of hope that he can get a fight with him in the future, but only if the 25-year-old Murray faces and defeats top light welterweight contender Victor Ortiz (28-2-1, 22 KO’s) on the undercard of Khan’s December 11th bout against World Boxing Association light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana (29-1, 27 KO’s). It seems that Khan is leading Murray into a bear trap, because Ortiz punches incredibly hard and would likely knock Murray out. But with a big money payday against Khan if Murray to beat Ortiz, it’s likely going to be too hard for Murray to resist trying to beat Ortiz.

Can Khan take Maidana’s best punch?

Image: Can Khan take Maidana's best punch?By William Mackay: WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) will finally be faced with the uncomfortable task of having to defend his title against the hard-hitting knockout artist Marcos Maidana (29-1, 27 KO’s) on December 11th, at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Khan has a reputation for having a weak chin, and it’s hard to argue against this when you look at his 1st round knockout loss to Breidis Prescott, the only hard hitting opponent that Khan has been put in with during his career.

Khan thinks he can end Mayweather’s unbeaten record – Does anyone believe him?

By William Mackay: WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) wants to get a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. and his promoter Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions wants to see Khan face Mayweather as well. In an article at the Times, Khan says “I would love to fight Mayweather and I believe I can end his unbeaten record.” I wonder what gave Khan the impression that he has the ability to beat Mayweather?

Schaefer wants to put Khan in with Mayweather in September, but what happens if Khan loses to Maidana?

By Scott Gilfoid: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer is getting a little ahead of himself in his desire to put together a fight between Amir Khan and Floyd Mayweather Jr. Schaefer is eying September of 2011 for a fight between Khan and Floyd Mayweather Jr, if Floyd doesn’t fight Manny Pacquiao next year. Presumably, Schaefer’s grand vision could be totally ripped apart at the seams if Khan is destroyed by Marcos Maidana on December 11th.
