By Gerardo Granados: It was reported that heavyweight contender Alexander Povetkin tested positive to a banned substance previous his scheduled fight against WBC heavyweight belt holder Deontay Wilder. Meldonium is the name of the substance and I guess that the reader and I don’t know much about it, but if it is banned, then there should have been a good reason to do so.
After that news was known, it was then announced that the fight was going to be postponed.
By Dan Ambrose: Former two-time world champion Paulie Malignaggi thinks the Deontay Wilder vs. Alexander Povetkin heavyweight match should be canceled altogether and Povetkin should be removed from the #1 mandatory position with the World Boxing Council.
This comes after the WBC announcing earlier on Sunday that the Wilder-Povetkin fight will be postponed after Povetkin tested positive for the banned substance Meldonium.

Povetkin tested positive for the banned substance Meldonium. The WBC says they want to investigate more before they make a ruling about a possible rescheduling. In the meantime, Dibella is angry because of the time, effort and the expenses that they’ve laid out for Wilder’s recent training camp.

Povetkin tested positive for Meldonium during one of VADA’s tests during April.

Wilder-Povetkin are supposed to be facing each other at the Khodnyka Ice Palance in Moscow, Russia. The positive on Povetkin’s “A” sample means there will likely be a second test on his “B” sample to verify the results.

Povetkin’s positive test for meldonium turned up from the VADA urine testing for the fight.
The WBC says they will be investigating this further. With a positive test for Povetkin, it puts the Wilder vs. Povetkin fight in doubt.

Normally, the visiting fighter would be feeling a lot of pressure to perform in front of a hostile crowd that will be cheering whatever the home fighter does inside the ring.
However, Wilder says he feels confident he’s going to win this fight. He’s not worried about pressure. The one that he feels will be dealing with the stress of this fight is the 36-year-old Povetkin because he’ll be fighting one of the biggest punchers in the heavyweight division in Deontay Wilder, and his home country of Russia will be expecting a lot of him.
By Scott Gilfoid: WBC heavyweight champion Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder (36-0, 35 KOs) made it crystal clear on Wednesday that he plans on giving 36-year-old mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin (30-1, 22 KOs) a methodical beating on May 21 so that the judges can’t help but to know who the winner of the fight is in case it goes to the cards.
Deontay doesn’t plan on letting the fight go to the cards, as he wants to make Povetkin his 36th knockout victim. Thus far, only one fighter, Bermane Stiverne, has been able to go the full 12 round distance with Wilder.
