Adrien Broner and Brandon Rios trade insults

broner452By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBA World lightweight champion Brandon Rios (31-0-1, 23 KO’s) decided to shoot a heated tweet to WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner (26-0, 22 KO’s) out of the blue earlier today that led to Broner responding on kind with his own truth of what would happen if he ever fought Rios.

Rios said “You won’t do s*** cause I’m not 4 foot. You was the one open your mouth and said my name. F****, come and try and knock this tree down.”

Broner responded with “A homie stop talking that f*** s*** you cool people’s but I will beat the f*** out you, boy. Better worry about your next fight!”

Broner easily beats Brandon Rios if the fight ever happens

broner534By Scott Gilfoid: Both Brandon Rios (31-0-1, 23 KO’s) and Adrien Broner (26-0, 22 KO’s) has expressed interest in fighting one another in the future, but whether that happens or not is unclear due to their different promoters. Broner says it’s up to Golden Boy Promotions for the fight to be made, and Rios can only hope that his promoters at Top Rank will allow him to fight Broner.

If the fight does get made I believe Broner will be far too good for Rios. The skill level between the two of them is substantial to say the least. Rios is an easy to hit fighter with good power, but slow hand and foot speed. He fought well when he was a lightweight champion, but he was benefited by the fact that he always enjoyed a huge weight advantage against his lighter opponents.

Adrien Broner should focus on building his own legacy rather than pandering to Mayweather

broner000By Craig Hilton: Adrien ‘The Problem’ Broner (26-0) has been talking profusely about Floyd Mayweather Jnr. (43-0) recently. As a boxing fan with an admiration for the pugilist’s individuality, I don’t like hearing this from Broner as although he may not have the same repertoire of skills, he has all the talent to achieve more than Floyd. In my opinion, Adrien should focus on building his own legacy.

It’s important to study the skills of successful fighters but Broner risks being cast into the shadow of Floyd Mayweather Jnr., damaging his own legacy and reputation. It was recently made clear on Sky Sports’ Ringside programme that Adrien Broner has achieved similar things sooner than Mayweather; Broner could smash Mayweather’s achievements in the same way that Usain Bolt took Michael Johnson’s world record in the 200 metres!

Mayweather: How can people criticize Broner when he’s following the greatest?

broner565By Allan Fox: Floyd Mayweather Jr. recently chose to step forward and defend WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner (26-0, 22 KO’s), who some fans have been critical of due to his Mayweather-like fighting style in the ring, and the way he seems to be mirroring Mayweather outside of the ring as well at times.

Mayweather said “How you going to criticize him [Broner] when he’s following the greatest. His ultimate goal is to be great, so he should follow greatness. That’s why when there’s another great champion coming up, they should follow Adrien Broner. It’s about passing the torch, helping one another. I’m here to help him, not hurt him.”

There are some definite similarities between what Mayweather does in the ring, and what Broner does in his fights. However, Broner brings a little more excitement to his fights than Mayweather did earlier in his career, as he tries to KO his opponents by standing in there with them in the pocket.

Broner: I should be #2 pound-for-pound behind Mayweather at #1

broner534By Scott Gilfoid: The talented WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner takes issue with the pound for pound rankings by Ring Magazine, which has him currently listed at number #6. Broner sees himself as firmly at number #2 behind his good friend Floyd Mayweather Jr. at the #1 sport.

Broner said on Friday night “They say I’m #5, but I should be #2 behind my big brother Floyd Mayweather Jr.”

I totally agree with Mr. Broner. He’s #2 on my list, and that’s without him even saying anything. Broner is an incredible talent.

Here is the current Ring pound for pound listing:

Broner: I’m moving up to 140 after I beat Burns; I want the green belt [WBC]

broner68By Scott Gilfoid: WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner (26-0, 22 KO’s) reiterated earlier tonight that he wants to fight WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns next, and after he beats him, Broner then plans on moving up to the light welterweight division to target the WBC title currently held by WBC 140 lb. champion Danny Garcia.

Broner said to ESPN “I want to fight Ricky Burns then move up to light welterweight. Hopefully, he’ll win his fight [against Miguel Vazquez], then I can move straight up to light welterweight [after I beat Burns]. I’m moving for the green belt [World Boxing Council]. I should be ranked #2 [pound-for-pound] behind my big brother [Floyd Mayweather Jr]. I’m about billions, he’s about money.”

Broner: I would have had to hurt Rees bad if they didn’t stop the fight

broner46By Scott Gilfoid: WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner (26-0, 22 KO’s) was pleased that Gavin Rees’ trainer Gary Lockett decided to stop the fight last Saturday night after Broner had knocked the Welsh fighter to the canvas in the 5th and was teeing off on him.

Lockett decided he didn’t want to let Broner annihilate the badly hurt Rees, so he threw in the towel to have the fight stopped.

Broner said to ESPN “They stopped it at the right time because I would have had to hurt him bad.”

It’s really good that Lockett stopped the fight. I know a lot of boxing fans thought it was a quick stoppage, and I know some boxing fans wondered if Rees even came to win. I agreed with the move by Lockett because it would have gotten much worse had Rees been able to make it out of that round.

Adrien Broner: It’s not arrogance, it’s showmanship

broner44By Mark Havey: Let me start off my saying that I am not his biggest fan. Adrien Broner has copious amounts of talent. But he often replaces punches with slaps, and his opponents have often given up before they go down. It’s like they are looking for a way out. When he does punch full on, power is evident.

Broner has certainly divided opinion. Some people say that he is the future of boxing and is certain to take over once Mayweather and Pacquiao retire. Others say he is a Mayweather copy cat who believe he is better than he is. Some people watch Broner to see is boastful style and cocky demeanor, others watch to see him get knocked out. Whatever the reason, you watch.

Donaire should be fighting Broner at 135; he’s too big for 122

donaire99By Chris Williams: In just finished watching the Nonito Donaire – Guillermo Rigondeaux press conference, and it’s clear as day why Donaire has been able to succeed at super bantamweight. Donaire is clearly a lightweight [135], and he should be fighting guys like WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner, Ricky Burns and Miguel Vazquez instead of melting down to fight little guys at 122.

Donaire is HUGE for super bantamweight. It’s like Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., who comes into his middleweight fights at 190 lbs. after making weight at 160. Donaire is huge for 122 lb. class, and that gives him a tremendous advantage over guys that actually fight at or near the 122 lb. division, like Rigondeaux.

Adrien Broner vs. Yuriorkis Gamboa Anytime in the Future

broner567By Ryan Wardle: Last Saturday at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey Adrien Broner ( 26-0, 22 KOs) predictably slaughtered Gavin Rees, forcing his corner to call a stop to the bout at the end of the 5th round. Rees came ready to fight and won the first two rounds on many viewer’s scorecards. However, Rees was outmatched once Broner began to pick him up towards the end of the 2nd round and was dominated from round 3 and on.

Adrien Broner has a rare combination of skills. Broner possesses natural talent, power, fast hands, and a good defense. His personality is polarizing and those who are not his fans are likely those who despise him. His skills to this point are undeniable, but there have been questions about the level of opposition he has faced. In his biggest fight to date, he demolished Antonio Demarco in 8 rounds to capture the WBC lightweight belt. At the time Demarco was considered the best lightweight.
