Adrien Broner vs. Gavin Rees on February 16th at the Boardwalk Hall, in Atlantic City, New Jersey

gavin rees weigh inBy Scott Gilfoid: WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner (25-0, 21 KO’s) will be facing former WBA World light welterweight champion Gavin Rees (37-1-1, 18 KO’s) in a mismatch on February 16th at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey, according to Steve Kim.

This is a sick mismatch. Rees, #2 WBA, #5 WBO, #15 IBF, stands absolutely no chance against the 23-year-old Broner. I thought the Broner vs. Ricky Burns fight was a terrible mismatch, but this one even worse than that. Rees, 32, is going to get drilled into the canvas within four or five rounds.

Broner’s options for February 16th fight are not good

broner45By Scott Gilfoid: WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner (25-0, 21 KO’s) won’t likely be getting the unification bout that he’s been wanting for some time against WBO lightweight champ Ricky Burns because the Brit isn’t ready to take the fight and it’s unclear right now if he ever will. Broner is scheduled to fight on February 16th on HBO at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and the options for this fight are absolutely poor for the 23-year-old Broner.

Broner may have been thinking that there would be tons of interesting opponents after he moved up to lightweight in November of this year, but there really isn’t. Broner basically cleaned out the division by beating the only real good fighter in Antonio DeMarco, because the rest of the contenders and champions just aren’t talented enough to give Broner any real test.

Donaire #5 Pound-for-pound, above #6 Broner, #7 Pacquiao

donaire4By Chris Williams: WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (31-1, 20 KO’s) is now #5 in the Ring Magazine pound-for-pound ratings. What’s interesting about this is that Donaire is ranked above #6 Adrien Broner and #7 Manny Pacquiao. I don’t agree with that ranking at all. Pacquiao should still be ranked above Donaire despite getting knocked out by Marquez.

Here’s how I see the pound-for-pound top 10 shaking up:

#1 Floyd Mayweather Jr

Morrison: Ricky Burns isn’t ready for Adrien Broner

burns43By Scott Gilfoid: Well, I knew it would happen. WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (35-2, 10 KO’s) won’t be fighting WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner (25-0, 21 KO’s) anytime soon, if ever. Burns’ promoter Alex Morrison says that Burns isn’t ready to take on a fighter like the talented 23-year-old Broner at this point.

Speaking with the Heraldscotland.com, Morrison said “We are not taking the fight. Ricky doesn’t have the necessary strong mindset at the moment to undertake such a big fight.”

Adrien Broner to fight on February 16th in Atlantic City

broner564By Scott Gilfoid: WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner (25-0, 21 KO’s) will be back in the ring on February 16th in Atlantic City, New Jersey, according to Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer. Up until it wasn’t known where the talented Broner would be fighting next, but now Schaefer has revealed the location at least. Heavyweights Johnathon Banks and Seth Mitchell will be fighting a rematch on the undercard.

Unfortunately, we won’t be seeing Broner fighting a unification bout with WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns, as his promoter Alex Morrison has stated that Burns will be fighting on January 26th against a still to be determined opponent in Glasgow, Scotland.

Burns wants a tune-up bout before facing Broner

burns334By Scott Gilfoid: WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (35-2, 10 KO’s) will be fighting a tune-up bout in January to get ready for a possible fight against WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner (25-0, 21 KO’s) in April, if Broner is still interested in facing Burns.

That’s a big if because Broner isn’t just going to stay in one place and waste his career away fighting in the lightweight division, which boxing fans have very little interest in. Broner will be moving up, so if Burns doesn’t take the fight then he’ll lose out on the good payday he was going to receive.

Schaefer still hoping Burns will agree to fight Broner on February 16th

broner6By Scott Gilfoid: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer still hasn’t given up on the idea of trying to get WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (35-2, 10 KO’s) to agree to fight Golden Boy fighter WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner 25-0, 21 KO’s) on February 16th in the United States.

Schaefer is willing to pay Burns a lot more money than he usually gets for his fights if he’ll agree to fight the talented Broner. As of now, Burns’ manager Alex Morrison is looking to have Burns fight on January 26th in Glasgow, Scotland rather than taking on the dangerous Broner. However, it could be that they’re waiting to see if they get the offer that they from Golden Boy for this fight.

Broner to Burns: I’m ready to fight you!

broner43By Scott Gilfoid: WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner (25-0, 21 KO’s) called out WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (35-2, 10 Ko’s) tonight on BoxNation, saying he wants to fight him and daring him to get in the ring with him so that he can find out which is the better guy.

Broner said “I’m ready to fight you! You didn’t have an opponent for your next fight date, but you didn’t choose to fight me. I’m ready to fight you.”

Broner and his promoters at Golden Boy Promotions were hoping that Burns would agree to fight him in February next year, but instead of agreeing to that fight Burns’ promoters is talking about having Burns back in the ring on January 26th in a title defense in Glasgow, Scotland instead of agreeing to take the much bigger fight with Broner.
