By Dan Ambrose: Junior middleweight contender James Kirkland (31-1, 27 KO’s) is reportedly suing his promoters at Golden Boy Promotions in order to try and get out of his contract with them. Apparently, Kirkland isn’t happy with the situation and wants to go in another direction with someone else.
By Dan Ambrose: The World Boxing Council (WBC) has reportedly nixed the idea of Golden Boy Promotions matching their star WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (40-0-1, 29 KO’s) up against WBA World junior middleweight champion Austin Trout in a unification bout on September 15th, according to fightnews.com.
By Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions didn’t do WBC junior middleweight champion Saul Alvarez by making his September 15th fight a pay per view bout, because he’s already had two well known fighters pull out of the fight due to injuries with Paul Williams and James Kirkland.
By Dan Ambrose: James Kirkland reportedly is still interested in facing WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez on September 15th as long as he’s paid well to take the fight. Kirkland now wants between $2 million to $2.5 million to face Alvarez.
